PURPOSES: Regional offices of the Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs use a computerized system called KAMIS so as to manage road equipment systematically. Road agencies can record number of operating days by equipment, actual working hours, accumulated operating hours (or distance) by equipment, and operating cost. However, KAMIS does not provide critical information, although it is strongly related to efficient road management equipment operation. In other words, road agencies do not know whether they have sufficient equipment to handle their actual work. METHODS: Therefore, this study suggests a methodology to evaluate for operational efficiency of road management equipment using analytical hierarchy process(AHP). First of all, estimated weights related criteria can be produced by AHP, and then use operational history by pieces of equipment. RESULTS: Results show that importance of management work can differ from weather conditions through five areas. CONCLUSIONS: Commonly, this results can imply to help save money for the purchase and maintenance of road management equipment, and they would improve the functional performance of KAMIS.
Supply chain management can be defined as an information system that connects the inside and outside of a company. Its purpose is to systematically and strategically manage the flow of information, resources and services to improve the long-term performance of the entire organization, including individual companies connected to the supply chain, and the quality of service provided to customers. The ultimate goal of SCM is to create synergy through organic integration of supply and demand based on cooperation and collaboration with stakeholders in the supply chain. This study is based on the hypothesis that the company's management performance will improve as the level of SCM improves. Most of the previous studies dealt with the relationship between corporate performance and SCM in the IT area. In this study, research was conducted through human capacity with IT system. The causal relationship was demonstrated, and there was a difference in the perception of the results of this study depending on whether or not smart factories were consulted in the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution. There is a need to examine the links between management's value chain and its causal relationship.
The strategic usages of IT(Information Technology) can convey important competitive advantages with an operational productivity. For this reason, many firms have heavily invested in IT and computing power. However, many companies were getting expected results by IT investment, but some companies had to be satisfied with a poor results. The question of whether or not benefit lead to expected performance is not easy to answer. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship among IT strategy, IT investment, and IT performance to resolve this problem. The 147 questionnaire responses completed by IS managers in manufacturing sector was conducted for a test of research hypothesis. ANOVA was used to investigate the relationship among three constructs and six factors. An operational performince of fitted group between IT strategy and IT investment was higher than not fitted group(H1). And also an competitive performance of fitted group between IT strategy and IT investment was higher than not fitted group(H2). The study shows a positive relationship between IT strategic orientation, IT investment direction, and performance of IT. The research results provide empirical evidence that supports the research hypothesis that closer fit between IT strategies and IT investment directions does lead to increase operational and competitive performance of IT.
This study aims to investigate the effect of quality management system in the shipping companies on the job satisfaction, organizational commitment, management performance. The quality management system is divided into operational accountability, employee management, crewman management, ship management, and sailing management based on previous study. Targets of survey are companies which are registered in Korean ship owner's association and Korea ship manager's association as of 2011. A total of 236 questionnaires are collected from shipping companies in Basan and Kyongnam from October 15 through November 5 in 2011. The result shows that operational accountability and employee management of quality management systems are mightily important in the shipping company. In the future research, based on analysis of shipping company's characteristics, the study for shipping companies which are perceived by customers could be conducted.
This study purported to acquire information necessary to improve the operational efficiency of general hospitals. It tried to determine major indices which represent managerial performance of general hospitals and to identify the managerial characteristics of general hospital which affect the major financial indices. 201 hospitals which were subject to standardization audit by the Korean Hospital Association were investigated and 80 hospitals were finally chosen for this study. Their financial and managerial data during the period between January 1991 and December 1991 were collected. Considering financial indices in this study were the ration of net income to total asset, income growth rate, and quick ration. The results of study are summarized as followings. First. The ration of net income to total assets and quick ration were highly related to managerial characteristics of general hospitals. Therefore, the standardization of three financial indices should be needed to systematically check the operational efficiency of general hospitals. Second, the sample hospitals can be classified as four groups on the basis of their financial indices' level. 4 of those hospitals(5.0%) showed high level of performance in terms of three financial indices and 27 of them(33.7%) showed that they are highly related to only two financial indices. 34 hospitals(42.5%) showed they have high level of relationship with only one indices and 15 hospitals(18.8%) showed very weak performance level with three indices. In addition, there is no hospitals to show mid-range level of managerial performance in relation to all three financial indices. Third, there is no significant relationship between three financial indices and the managerial characteristics of hospitals such as the number of beds, type of operation, location of hospitals, and etc. However, in the case of hospitals which have high level of managerial performance, they have more specialists and medical support personnel in comparison to low performance hospitals. They also have high level of bed occupancy rate and average length of stay(ALOS). In conclusion, the study showed the standardization of 3 financial indices are necessary to systematically evaluate the managerial performance of general hospitals and provide more accurate operational information for each hospital. To do so, it is necessary to focus on management side of hospital such as the effective human resource management and quality enhancement of medical treatment.
This is a case study of Seoul St. Mary's Hospital applying a real-time enterprise (RTE) strategy to improve customer satisfaction and operational efficiency with the main process of medical institutions. The hospital is applying an RTE strategy to get real-time information on occurrences at each contact point of the main process of the medical institution from reservation to discharge through dashboard and to resolve issues through rapid decision-making. The RTE strategy of the hospital has some summaries: First, the hospital has linked a hospital management strategy to the RTE strategy to build a patient-centered treatment process. Second, the hospital has operated a control tower for change management and implementation monitoring in the process of implementing the RTE strategy. Third, the hospital has built systematic RTE-based environment as an application program in which the nU System is linked to Business Processor Renovation (BPR) promoted from 2006 on. Fourth, the hospital is applying a strategy to improve efficiency in operating the hospital by increasing customer satisfaction, removing inefficiency and variability, and managing medical resources efficiently through the RTE strategy. Fifth, it has established an information-sharing system through authority management for each user in terms of RTE information. Sixth, it has supplemented limitations of short-term information of the RTE strategy by linking the key performance index to the cost information system in order to improve performance of the RTE strategy. Seventh, it has improved customer satisfaction and achieved higher performance in improving operational efficiency, as compared with rival hospitals, through the RTE strategy.
In this paper, we studied the purpose of this paper is like that; the first one is to find the factors associated with operational strategy by variable website types classified into information-providing type, product-providing type and service- providing type by user approach purposes. The second one is to propose the successful operational strategy through analyzing the factors affecting the financial and non-financial performance of websites. A framework of research model including above factors is developed and tested statistically. The data are collected from Internet website experts of 80 Korean firms through survey. The main results of this research are as follows. First, in information-providing websites, the community factor is regarded as the most important factor But for the Improvement of the performance, not only community factor but also user interface, customization, total quality and playfulness factors should be regarded as important factors equally. Second, in product-providing websites, customization, total quality and visual design factors are regarded as important factors. But for the improvement of the performance, community and visual design factors should be regarded as important factors. Third, in service-providing websites, user interface, customization and community factors should be regarded as important factors in order to improve the performance.
Electronic Data Interchange(EDI) has the potential to improve business operations by expediting the exchange of business documents. It will also provide substantive operational and strategic benefits to the trading firms. However, the successful implementation of EDI systems requires the mutual trust and cooperation between the trading firms. The extent of EDI diffusion and performance depends on inter-organizational, intra-organizational, as well as innovation factors. Researches based on the sociopolitical process framework in the use of IT, organizational theory, resource dependence theory, and innovation diffusion theory have identified 3 inter-organizational variables(transaction climate, dependence, external IS expert support) and 4 intra-organizational variables(strategic IS planning, infrastructure, top management support, education/training,), and 3 innovation variables(compatibility, relative advantage, cost) that affect EDI diffusion. In this study, a multi-dimensional measure on EDI diffusion has been developed to capture the external and internal integration. Then, the influence of these 10 variables on the extent to which the EDI adopting firms pursue diffusion has been examined. Whether more diffusion leads to superior performance has also been studied. International trade managers from 107 firms in the trade industry participated in a field survey. The results based on a structural equation model(SEM), developed using AMOS, provide quite a strong support for the hypothesized relations. Both education/training and IT infrastructure influenced external and internal diffusion of EDI systems. Internal diffusion of EDI enables the adopting firms to improve operational and strategic performance, whereas external diffusion contributes only to operational performance.
Six sigma has been the most influential management innovation program since 1996 in Korea. As a result of successful implementation of 6 sigma, there have been a number of dramatic quality improvement cases. However, no empirical study of 6 sigma implementation study has done especially in the service industry of Korea. This article reviews status of finance companies which implemented 6 sigma programs in Korea and then demonstrates the relationship between 6 sigma problem solving tools such as analysis of variance and graph techniques, etc and project success and operational performance. Customer survey tools, process analysis, and documentation tool are identified as influential tools on project success. Many enterprises have been adopting management systems good enough for them and operating the schemes to have competitive edge better than their competitor. One of the finest systems that most companies have been selecting is ISO 14001. ISO 14001, environment management system, is widely known as advancing internal efficiency and productivity in the various industries. As a result, the number of companies that have adopted ISO 14001's certification have been increasing continuously year by year since ISO 14000 standard was called in 1994s from ISO 18000 standard that originally used. The purpose of this study is to present that ISO 14001's requirement execution influences on management performance in the small manufacturer. In order to carry out this research, we obtained 96 survey sheets and inspected ten assumptions based on the reliability, validity of the questionnaires. The results of regression analysis are summarized as follows; First, the three factors of ISO 14001 requirement, plan, implementation and operation and management consideration, have an important effect on the operational performance. Second, the three elements of ISO 14001 requirement, environment policy, implementation and operation and management consideration, affect to the financial performance significantly. Based on the results, it is sure that the companies that execute the factors of implementation and operation and management policy have a good performance to achieve operational and financial performance so that it is important to clarify the member's role, authority and follow the procedure by a company's process. Also, the truth shows CEO's continuous will and periodical review of ISO 14001 influence on management performance as well.
