Constructed wetlands and other aquatic systems have been successfully used for waste and wastewater treatment in either temperate or tropical regions. To treat waste or wastewater in a sustainable manner, the integrated eco-engineering designs are explained in this paper with 2 case studies: (i) a combination of vertical-flow constructed wetland (CW) with plant irrigation systemfor fecal sludge management and (ii) integrated CW units with landscaping at full-scale application for domestic wastewater treatment. The pilot-scale study of fecal sludge management employed 3 vertical-flow CW units, each with a dimension of $5{\times}5{\times}0.65m$ (width ${\times}$ length ${\times}$ media depth) and planted with cattails (Typha augustifolia). At the solid loading rate of 250 kg total solids (TS)/$m^2.yr$ and a 6-day percolate impoundment, the CW system could achieve chemical oxygen demand (COD), TS and total Kjeldahl nitrogen (TKN) removal efficiencies in the range of 80 - 96%. The accumulated sludge layers of about 80 - 90 cm was found at the CW bed surface after operating the CW units for 7 years, but no clogging problem has been observed. The CW percolate was applied to 16 irrigation Sunflower plant (Helianthus annuus) plots, each with a dimension of $4.5{\times}4.5m$ ($width{\times}length$). In the study, the CW percolate were fed to the treatment plots at the application rate of 7.5 mm/day but the percolate was mixed with tap water at different ratio of 20%, 80% and 100%. Based on a 1-year data of 3-crop plantation were experimented, the contents of Zn, Mn and Cu in soil of the experimental plots were found to increase with increasing in CW percolate ratios. The highest plant biomass yield and oil content of 1,000 kg/ha and 35%, respectively, were obtained from the plots fed with 20% or 50% of the CW percolate, whereas no accumulation of heavy metals in the plant tissues (i.e. leaves, stems and flowers) of the sunflower is found. In addition to the pilot-scale and field experiments, a case study of the integrated CW systems for wastewater treatment at Phi Phi Island (a Tsunami-hit area), Krabi province, Thailand is illustrated. The $5,200-m^2$ CW systems on Phi Phi Island are not only for treatment of $400m^3/day$ wastewater from hotels, households or other domestic activities, but also incorporating public consultation in the design processes, resulting in introducing the aesthetic landscaping as well as reusing of the treated effluent for irrigating green areas on the Island.
According to the Korean Renewable Energy 3020 Implementation Plan, the installation capacity of renewable energy is expected to increase whereas technology for storing excess electricity and stabilizing the power supply of renewable energy sources is extremely required. Power-to-Gas is one of energy storage technologies where electricity is converted into gas fuel such as hydrogen and methane. Basically, Power-to-Gas system could be effectively utilized to store excess electricity generated by an imbalance between supply and demand. In this study, the economic feasibility analysis of Power-to-Gas reflecting the domestic situation was carried out. Total revenue requirement method was utilized to estimate the levelized cost of hydrogen. Validation on the economic analysis method in this study was conducted by comparison of the result, which is published by the International Energy Agency. The levelized cost of hydrogen of a 100-MW Power-to-Gas system reflecting the current economic status in Korea is 8,344 won kg-1. The sensitivity analysis was carried out, applying the main analysis economic factors such as electricity cost, electrolyser cost, and operating year. Based on the sensitivity analysis, the conditions for economic feasibility were suggested by comparing the cost of producing hydrogen using renewable energy with the cost of producing natural gas reformed hydrogen with carbon capture and storage.
The aim of this study was to find an analytic solution to the problem of determining the optimal capacity (lot-size) of a batch-storage network to meet demand for a finished product in a system undergoing random failures of operating time and/or batch material. The superstructure of the plant considered here consists of a network of serially and/or parallel interlinked batch processes and storage units. The production processes transform a set of feedstock materials into another set of products with constant conversion factors. The final product demand flow is susceptible to short-term random variations in the cycle time and batch size as well as long-term variations in the average trend. Some of the production processes have random variations in product quantity. The spoiled materials are treated through regeneration or waste disposal processes. All other processes have random variations only in the cycle time. The objective function of the optimization is minimizing the total cost, which is composed of setup and inventory holding costs as well as the capital costs of constructing processes and storage units. A novel production and inventory analysis, the PSW (Periodic Square Wave) model, provides a judicious graphical method to find the upper and lower bounds of random flows. The advantage of this model is that it provides a set of simple analytic solutions while also maintaining a realistic description of the random material flows between processes and storage units; as a consequence of these analytic solutions, the computation burden is significantly reduced.
A semi-pilot hybrid system composed of a photocatalytic reactor and a biofilter was operated under various operating conditions in order to treat malodorous waste air containing both hydrogen sulfide and ammonia which are major air pollutants emitted from composting factories and many publicly owned treatment works (POTW). When both hydrogen sulfide and ammonia contained in malodorous waste air were treated simultaneously by a biofilter system, its performance of ammonia removal was much more poor than that by a biofilter system treating waste air containing only ammonia, unlike its performance of hydrogen sulfide removal. For semi-pilot hybrid system, the removal efficiencies of hydrogen sulfide and ammonia turned out to be ca. 83 and 65%, respectively. Therefore, for semi-pilot hybrid system, the removal efficiencies of hydrogen sulfide and ammonia was increased by ca. 4 and 30%, respectively, compared to those of semi-pilot biofilter system (control). In addition, the maximum elimination capacities of hydrogen sulfide and ammonia for semi-pilot hybrid system turned out to be ca. 60 and $37g/m^3/h$, respectively. These maximum elimination capacities of hydrogen sulfide and ammonia were estimated to be ca. 9.1% and ca. 23.3% greater than those for semi-pilot biofilter system (control), respectively. Therefore, the semi-pilot hybrid system contributed the enhancement of removal efficiency and the maximum elimination capacity of ammonia in a higher degree than that of hydrogen sulfide, compared to the semi-pilot biofilter system.
In this study, we studied on the remeval of toluene vapors in a lab-scale biofilter. Biofiltration was performed in a column fed downflow with contaminated air at ambient conditions. The column was packed with mixture of Peat and Calstene(5:3 vol. Ratio), Synthesized media, Bark and Wood chip, which were inoculated with microbial population of selected stains(Pseudomonas. putida, KCCM 11343, ATCC 12633). The microorganisms were immobilized on the bed medium and then biofilm were formed. The biofilter was operated under the conditions of various inlet toluene concentrations for 180 days and treated up to the elimination capacity of maximum 40 g/㎥hr at the inlet load of 30 g/㎥ hr with percentage removals of 20∼90% and gas retention times between 1 and 2 min. The pressure drop was very negligible through the biofilter columps because its value of 0.054 cmH$_2$O/m was much less than others. The effect of operating conditions such as flow rate, inlet toluene concentration and moisture contents on the performance of the biofilter was sequentially investigated in this study.

The purpose of this study is to analyze students' recognition of the free inquiry activity and to investigate what effect the free inquiry activity of the 2007 Revised Educational curriculum revision has on the science inquiry ability of middle school students. To conduct the research we worked with 262 female students, 8 classes of first graders in a middle school. Among them, 4 classes were taught in free inquiry activity and the remaining 4 classes were taught in the traditional way. The results of Likert-questionnaire indicate that students were learning about cooperative spirit through group investigation activities and discussions and did not take the free inquiry activity as a hard activity. Also they showed positive reaction agreeing that this activity is both a helpful method in learning science and interesting. However, it seemed that the investigation tends to flow between the leading 1~2 members of the group and showed difficulty in carrying out the investigation as a group after school hours. It showed there are few problems and obstacles in operating the free inquiry activity. The free inquiry activity did not give any meaningful influence on the improvement of science inquiry ability of students. Integrative inquiry process skills did not give a relevant influence, however, it showed a meaningful influence on the improvement of basic inquiry process skills. Especially, among the low-ranking element of basic inquiry process skills, it enhanced the capacity for prediction.
In this paper, understanding there is a limitation with a comprehensive and network approach for the evaluation of existing vehicle and pedestrian environments, the authors focus on developing an integrated approach to assessing these environments. The network evaluation here means the assessment at a three-dimensional level that includes evaluation methods of lines/axes in a spatial concept as well as integration of evaluation indicators being used for vehicles and the walking environment. Grey System Theory (GST) was applied based on the theoretical background for network and comprehensive integrated evaluation, and the evaluation of the vehicle and pedestrian environment was performed by assigning target areas to walking preference zones. As a result of the comprehensive evaluation and analysis by GST, even if the service level is the same as the operating indicators (Highway Capacity Manual) of the vehicle and pedestrian environment, or relatively better, it was identified that the total score could be varied over Grey Category because the observed data are calculated after considering the weights between evaluation indicators by the range of Grey Category on the comprehensive evaluation. Considering comprehensively these points, although the indicators on the operation of roads are relatively good, in the event that the indicators on the safety of roads are bad, it was known that the scores over Grey Category also could be changed. The result is that this evaluation method can be used to evaluate the network concept per lane (per axis) as well as to diagnose the current state by type of urban street in the future.
The end plate connection is applied to beam-column moment connections in various forms. Such end plate connection displays changes in the behavioral characteristics, strength and stiffness, and energy dissipation capacity based on the thickness and length of the end plate, the number and diameter of the high strength bolt, the gauge distance of the high strength bolt, prying action force of the high strength bolt, and dimensions and length of the welds. Accordingly, this study has apprehended the axial tensile stiffness and prying action force of the high strength bolt connected on the tensile side based on the difference in thickness of the end plate, and was conducted to propose an analysis model for the prediction of such variables that affect the operating properties of the end plate. To achieve this, this study has conducted a three-dimensional non-linear finite-element analysis of the unstiffened expanding end plate connection by selecting only the thickness of the end plate as the variable.

The digital mobile communication will be developed till getting multimedia service in anyone, any where, any time. Theses requiring items are going to be come true via IMT-2000 system. Transmitting signal bandwidth of IMT-2000 system is 3 times as large as IS-95 system. That is mean peak to average of signal is higher than IS-95A system. So we have to design it carefully not to effect in adjacent channel. HPA(High Power Amplifier) located in the end point of system is operated in 1-㏈ compression point(Pl㏈), then it generates 3rd and 5th inter modulation signals. Theses signals affect at adjacent channel and RF signal is distorted by compressed signal which is operated near by Pl㏈ point. Then the most important design factor is how we make HPA having high linearity. Feedback, Pre-distorter and Feed-forward methods are presented to solve theses problems. Feed-forward of these methods is having excellent improving capacity, but composed with complex structure. Generally, Linearity and Efficiency in power amplifier operate in the contrary, then it is difficult for us to find optimal operating point. In this paper we applied algorithm which searches optimal point of linear characteristics, which is key in Power Amplifier, using minimum current point of error amplifier in 1st loop. And we made 2nd loop compose with new structure. We confirmed fabricated LPA is operated by having high linearity and minimum current condition with ACPR of -26 ㏈m max. @ 30㎑ BW in 3.515㎒ and ACLR of 48 ㏈c max@${\pm}$㎒ from 1W to 40W.

Problem of greenhouse gases associated with global warming and the world rise in fuel oil prices due to the depletion of fossil fuel has attracted attention. For this reason, maritime transport business, has shown interest in green-ship technology to reduce the consumption of fuel and reduce greenhouse gas for environmental protection. Power system of the ship is one of the most important factors for safe operation. Therefore, at design of ship power system, most of existing vessel used comparative large capacity generator in order to respond peak load such as bow thruster, crane and etc. In the navigation of ship, marine generators most would be operated at low load operation. In the low load operation of the generation rate of 50% or less, the operation efficiency of the generator it deteriorated, to consume more fuel oil. It also, it means that adversely effect the life of the generator. In this paper, studied how to apply for a secondary battery in container ship that relatively frequent arrival and departure in port. As a result, in order to apply the secondary battery to increase the operating efficiency of the generator during the voyage, it was confirmed that it is possible to reduce fuel consumption.
