  • Marine Casualty Forecasting System (MCFS) is to broadcast the prediction number and risk level of marine casualties as like daily weather forecasting. The MCFS consists of marine casualty numerical D/B, prediction model and, three-dimensional statistics visualization system. The implementation procedure for the numerical D/B is described in the paper. The data relating to a total of 724 ship casualties in the west-southern sea area (latitude 33$^{\circ}$N∼35$^{\circ}$ and longitude 124$^{\circ}$E∼127$^{\circ}$E) of Korean peninsula for 11 years (1999∼2000) have been compiled. The analysis method of numerical D/B is proposed and discussed its usability.

  • The paper describes on the construction and analysis of marine casualty numerical D/B (N-D/B) to implement Korean MArine Casualty Forecasting System (K-MACFOS). The main target of K-MACFOS is to broadcast the prediction number and risk level of marine casualties as like daily weather forecasting. The data relating to a total of 724 ship casualties in the west-southern sea area (33oN∼35oN, 124oE∼127oE) of Korean peninsula for 11 years (1990∼2000) have been compiled and converted into quantitative data with 14 numeric conversion scales. Through the statistical analysis using contour-map visualization, the usability of N-D/B and the casualty features of the target sea areas are discussed. In addition, the optimum year-band selection method is also proposed to provide correct N-D/B analysis and precise prediction of the number of marine casualties.

  • In this paper, the error sidelobe level and signal to noise loss from the numerical analysis using the modelling of quadrature coherent detector in the case that the channel imbalance and with local oscillator leakage is considered. From the numerical results, the error sidelobe level and signal to noise loss that with the gain and phase imbalance(0.8(dB)J5(dog)) is (-21.322[dB], -0.0071[dB]), (-11.6839[dB], -0.0059[dB]) in the case that the channel imbalance and with local oscillator leakage is considered.

  • A 23GHz 2-stage LNA was designed using MPIE numerical analysis and microwave CAD EEsof softwares. The basic circuit was designed by EEsof tools but analyzed more precisely using numerical MPIE tools and modified. The matching sections of the input and output terminals were designed with paralledl coupled filter-type lines, these matching sections perform impedance matching and DC blocking, more over have the advantages of small discontinuities and small errors in the design process. The FET chip is directly attached to the ground metal. The designed LNA gives 15.2dB gain and 2.7dB noise figure. without considering 1.8dB loss of connectors. These results validate our design process and matching schemes and fabrication technologies over the 20GHz frequency range.

  • This paper presents a numerical study for the development of a low-noise low-vibration industrial wheel for non-pneumatic wheel to significantly reduce vibration and noise. For this, design, injection molding and performance testing were performed. Various geometric shapes and materials were taken into account. For numerical analysis, ANSYS, LS-Dyna, and ABAQUS were used to predict the behavior of the wheel under different loadings based on various design changes. Based on this, 4 prototypes were fabricated by changing the design of wheels and molds, and various vibration and noise tests were carried out. A vibration tester was developed and tested to perform the vibration noise test considering durability. A prototype and test of the final wheel was performed. In the case of the vibration test, the vibration levels were 81.16dB and 80.66dB, which were below the target 90dB. Noise levels were 53.20 dB and 52.55 dB below the target 65dB. In the case of the impact resistance test, it was confirmed that there was no change in appearance after impact. The product weight was measured to be 174g compared to the target of 190g.

  • In this paper, the creep behavior of bolted rock was analyzed by using the unconfined creep tests and the numerical results. Based on the test results, the Bolted Burgers creep model (B-B model) was proposed to clarify the creep mechanism of rock mass due to rock bolts. As to the simulation of the creep behaviour of bolted rock, a new user-defined incremental iterative format of the B-B model was established and the open-source $FLAC^{3D}$ code was written by using the object-oriented language (C++). To check the reliability of the present B-B creep constitutive model program, a numerical model of a tunnel with buried depth of 1000 m was established to analyze the creep response of the tunnel with the B-B model support, the non-support and the bolt element support. The simulation results show that the present B-B model is consistent with the calculated results of the inherent bolt element in $FLAC^{3D}$, and the convergence deformation can be more effectively controlled when the proposed B-B model is used in the $FLAC^{3D}$ software. The big advantage of the present B-B creep model secondarily developed in the $FLAC^{3D}$ software is the high computational efficiency.

  • The digital HPTV(holographic particle tracking velocimetry) velocity field measurement system consists of four steps: recording, numerical reconstruction, particle extraction and velocity extraction. In the velocity extraction process, we improved the two frame PTV algorithm to extract 3-D displacement information of each particle located in 3D space. Because a digital CCD camera was used, some factors such as spatial resolution, numerical aperture, and particle concentration influenced on the performance of the developed digital HPTV. Especially, the particle concentration $(C_o)$ affected the reconstruction efficiency and recovery ratio in the numerical reconstruction and particle extraction procedure. In this paper, the effect of particle concentration reconstruction efficiency and recovery ratio were analyzed experimentally. Optimal particle concentration was found to be in the range of $C_o=11{\sim}17\;particles/mm^3$.

  • Finite element analysis of fluid flow with moving free surface has been carried out in two and tree dimensions. The new VOF-based numerical algorithm that has been proposed by the present authors was applied to several 2-D and 3-D free surface flow problems. The proposed free surface tracking scheme is based on two numerical tools that have been newly introduced by the present authots; the orientation vector to represent the free surface orientation in each cell and the baby-cell to determine the fluid volume flux at each cell boundary. The proposed numerical algorithm has been applied to 2-D and 3-D cavity filling and sloshing problems, which demonstrated versatility and effectiveness of the new free surface tracking scheme as well as the overall solution procedure. The proposed numerical algorithm resolved successfully the interacting free surface with each other. The simulated results demonstrated the applicability of proposed numerical algorithm to the practical problems of large free surface motion. Also, it has been demonstrated that the proposed free surface tracking scheme can be easily implemented in any irregular non-uniform grid systems and can be extended to the 3-D free surface flow problem without additional efforts.

Reinforcement and Arching Effect of Geogrid-reinforced and Pile-supported Embankments (지오그리드와 말뚝으로 보강된 성토지반의 보강 및 아칭효과 연구)

  • Geosynthetic-reinforced and pile-supported embankments have been increasingly used and researched around the world. The inclusion of one or multiple geosynthetic reinforcements over the pile is intended to enhance the efficiency of load transfer from soft ground to piles, to reduce total and differential settlement and increase global or local stability. In this paper, the reinforcement effectiveness and arching effect of the geogrid-reinforced and pile-supported embankments have been studied in terms of field model tests and numerical analysis with varying the space between piles and reinforcement. 2-dimensional numerical analysis has been conducted using the FLAC (Fast Lagrangian Analysis of Continua) program. And load transfer mechanisms between soil-piles-geogrid were investigated. The mechanisms of load transfer can be considered as a combination of embankment soil arching, tension geogrid, and stress concentration due to the stiffness difference between pile and soft ground. Based on the field model test and numerical analysis results, it was found that the geosynthetic reinforcement slightly interferes with soil arching, and helps reduce differential settlement of the soft ground. Also. at the D/b=3 (D: spacing of pile cap, b: diameter of pile), the total settlement is reduced by about $40\%$ compared to that without reinforcement. For $D/b{\ge}6$, the effectiveness of geogrid reinforcement in reducing settlement is negligible.
