  • The objective of this paper is to propose a Binary Particle Swarm Optimization(BPSO) for design of reporting cell management system. The assignment of cells to reporting or non-reporting cells is an NP-complete problem having an exponential complexity in the Reporting Cell Location Management(RCLM) system. The number of reporting cells and which cell must be reporting cell should be determined to balance the registration(location update) and search(paging) operations to minimize the cost of RCLM system. Experimental results demonstrate that BPSO is an effective and competitive approach in fairly satisfactory results with respect to solution quality and execution time for the optimal design of location management system.

  • The genomes of plants contain more than 600 genes encoding a diverse set of proteases and the subunits of proteasomes. These proteases and proteasomes consist of plant proteolytic systems, which are involved in various cellular metabolic processes. Plant proteolytic systems have been shown to have diverse roles in defense responses, such as execution of the attack on the invading organisms, participation in signaling cascades, and perception of the invaders. In order to provide a framework for illustrating the importance of proteolytic systems in plant defense, characteristics of non-proteasome proteases and the 26S proteasome are summarized. The involvement of caspase-like proteases, saspases, apoplastic proteases, and the 26S proteasome in pathogen defense suggests that plant proteolytic systems are essential for defense and further clarity on the roles of plant proteases in defense is challenging but fundamentally important to understand plant-microbe interactions.

  • This paper introduces a novel parallel shift operator finite-difference time-domain (SO-FDTD) method for plasma in the dispersive media. We calculate the interaction between the electromagnetic wave of various frequencies and non-magnetized plasma by using the parallel SO-FDTD method. Then, we compare the results, which are calculated with serial and parallel SO-FDTD executions to obtain the speedup ratio and validate the parallel execution. We conclude that the parallel SO method has almost the same precision as the serial SO method, while the parallel approach expands the scope of memory and reduces the CPU time.

  • A fast, accurate model for calculating roll gap variables are critical to the implementation of computer based automation systems for cold rolling mills. Based on the work of Fleck and Johnson, rollgap simulator with non-circular arc model was developed using the influence function. This developed model is capable of predicting values of force, torque and slip which can be applied over the wide range of rolling conditions including cold rolling/DR/temper mill with high execution speed. Friction coefficient was obtained as a function of operation conditions through analyzing measured data. After combination of rollgap simulator with production strategy, draft schedule for No.3 RCM (Reversible Cold Rolling Mill) in Incheon works of Dongbu Steel was developed. This draft schedule will be installed in the setup computer of No.3 RCM replacing old Hitachi model.

  • Cryogenic insulation systems, with proper materials selection and execution, can offer the highest levels of thermal performance. Insulations are listed in order of increasing performance and, generally, in order of increasing cost. The specific insulation to be used for a particular application is determined through a compromise between cost, ease of application and the effectiveness of the insulation. Consequently, materials, representative test conditions, and engineering approach for the particular application are crucial to achieve the optimum result. The present work is based on energy cost balance for optimizing the thickness of insulated chambers, using foamed or multi layered cryogenic shell. The considered insulation is a uniformly applied outer layer whose thickness varies with the initial and boundary conditions of the studied vessel under steady-state radial heat transfer. An expression of the optimal insulation thickness derived from the total cost function and depending on the geometrical parameters of the container is presented.

  • The execution complexities of the major time memory data tradeoff methods are analyzed in this paper. The multi-target tradeoffs covered are the classical Hellman, distinguished point, and fuzzy rainbow methods, both in their non-perfect and perfect table versions for the latter two methods. We show that their computational complexities are identical to those of the corresponding single-target methods executed under certain matching parameters and conclude that the perfect table fuzzy rainbow tradeoff method is most preferable.

  • COMS (Communication Ocean Meteorological Satellite) is the geostationary satellite being developed by Korea Aerospace Research Institute for multi-mission: experimental communication, ocean monitoring and meteorological observations. The COMS operation is controlled by the on-board software running on the spacecraft central computer. The software is written in ADA language and developed under the software life cycle: Requirement analysis, Design, Implementation, Component test and Integration test. Most functional requirements are tested at component level on a software component testing tool, ATTOL. ATTOL provides a simple way to define the test cases and automates the test program generation, test execution and test analysis. When two or more verified components are put together, the integration test starts to check the non-functional requirements: real-time aspect, performance, the HW/SW compatibility and etc. This paper introduces the COMS on-board software and explains what to test and how to test the on-board software at component level using ATTOL.
