  • This paper describes a methodology of mobile robot navigation which is designed to carry heavy payloads at high speeds to be used in FMS(Flexible Manufacturing System) without human control. Intelligent control scheme using fuzzy logic is applied to the navigation control. It analyzes sensor readings from multi-sensor system, which is composed of ultrasonic sensors, infrared sensors and odometer, for environment learning, planning, landmark detecting and system control. And it is implemented on a physical robot, AGV(Autonomous Guided Vehicle) which is a two-wheeled, indoor robot. An on-board control software is composed of two subsystems, i.e., AGV control subsystem and Sensor control subsystem. The results show that the navigation of the AGV is robust and flexible, and a real-time control is possible.

  • In this paper, we implement the internet-based remote control system for intelligent robot. For remote control of the robot, it uses the socket communication of the TCP/IP. It consists of the user interface and the robot control interface. Robot control interface transmits the navigation and environmental informations of the robot into the user interface. In order to transmit the large environmental images, a JPEG compression algorithm is used. User interface displays the navigation status of the robot and transmits the navigation order into the robot control interface. Also, we propose the design method of the fuzzy controller using navigation data acquired by expert's knowledge or experience. To do this, we use virus-evolutionary genetic algorithm(VEGA). Finally, we have shown the proposed system can be operated through the real world experimentations.

  • Flight control design for the autonomous waypoint navigation of aircraft is presented in this study. The waypoints are defined in terms of desired longitude and latitude. The control design is conducted in longitudinal and lateral directions, respectively. The lateral control is based upon coordinated turn strategy for which no sideslip is allowed under the turning maneuver. The longitudinal control is mainly focused on altitude hold during navigation. Neural network control approach is applied to the altitude-hold mode control. Simulation of the proposed control strategy has been performed under various conditions. A graphical simulation tool was developed to visually demonstrate the control technique developed in this study. A method to simulate the gas turbine transient behavior is developed. The basic principles of the method.

  • The traffic of tug/barges which are carrying construction materials, large plants for harbor development, or offshore structures has recently increased in the coast of Korea. The west and south coast of Korea are always congested due to a lot of islands and traffic concentration. Specially tug/barges have higher probability of marine accidents due to their bad maneuverability than others. Considering the operational circumstance and maneuverability, this study was to develop a wide-area monitoring and control system for tug/barges in the coastal area of Korea. The system was made in the form of three program modules i.e. navigation analysis program module, monitoring and control program module, database module. And seven functions were programmed to monitor and control the tug/barges efficiently. These are ship information search, tug/barge information and track management, designated area and safe navigation zone management, fairway management, accident data management, warning of danger, safety information management.

  • The paper investigates the geometric effect of landmarks to the navigation error in the landmark based 3D vision navigation and introduces the INS/Vision integrated navigation system considering its effect. The integrated system uses the vision navigation results taking into account the dilution of precision for landmark geometry. Also, the integrated system helps the vision navigation to consider it. An indirect filter with feedback structure is designed, in which the position and the attitude errors are measurements of the filter. Performance of the integrated system is evaluated through the computer simulations. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm works well and that better performance can be expected when the error characteristics of vision navigation are considered.

  • The integrated global position system (GPS) and inertial navigation system (INS) has been considered as a cost-effective way of providing an accurate and reliable navigation system for civil and military system. Even the integration of a navigation sensor as a supporting device requires the development of non-traditional approaches and algorithms. The objective of this paper is to assess the feasibility of integrated with GPS and INS information, to provide the navigation capability for long term accuracy of the integrated system. Advanced algorithms are used to integrate the GPS and INS sensor data. That is fuzzy inference system based Weighted Extended Kalman Filter(FWEKF) algorithm INS signal corrections to provided an accurate navigation system of the integrated GPS and INS. Repeatedly, these include INS error, calculated platform corrections using GPS outputs, velocity corrections, position correction and error model estimation for prediction. Therefore, the paper introduces the newly developed technology which is aimed at achieving high accuracy results with integrated system. Finally, in this paper are given the results of simulation tests of the integrated system and the results show very good performance

  • In this paper, we propose remote navigation control for intelligent robot using particle swarm optimization(PSO). The proposed system consists of interfaces for intelligent robot navigation and user interface in order to control the intelligent robot remotely. And communication interfaces using TCP/IP socket is used. To do this, we first design the fuzzy navigation controller based on expert's knowledge for intelligent robot navigation. At this time, we use the PSO algorithm in order to identify the membership functions of fuzzy control rules. And then, we propose the remote system in order to navigate the robot remotely. Finally, we show the effectiveness and feasibility of the developed controller and remote system through some experiments.

  • As interest in underwater structures and ocean exploration increases, many researchers are proposing methods for modeling and controlling various remotely operated vehicles (ROVs). Recently, hybrid systems composed of an autonomous underwater vehicle and an ROV capable of remote control and autonomous navigation are being developed. In this study we introduce a method that models Ariari-aROV, an ROV consisting of five thrusters, and performs navigation. The proposed ROV can be controlled manually and by autonomous navigation when given a target point. An extended Kalman filter is utilized for sensor measurement correction for more precise navigation. The proposed method is verified through a simulation.

  • This paper aims to investigate the navigation control of a mobile robot in a confined environment. Steering angle becomes control variable which is computed from the fuzzy control rules. The identification method proposed in this paper presents the fuzzy control rules obtained through modelling of. the driving actions of human operator. The feasibility of the proposed method is evaluated through the application of the identified fuzzy controls rules to the navigation control of a mobile robot which follows the center of a corridor.
