Analysis of Suicide Research on Multicultural Youth in Korea

  • As multicultural population has been drastically increasing over the decade in Korea, their quality of life needs to be studied. This study focuses on multicultural youths' suicidal issue in Korea. Suicide is one of the most obvious indicators to show the current status of mental health. Unfortunately, suicide attempt rate of multicultural youths was two-times more than that of non-multicultural youths in Korea during the past two years(2014-15). Through the literature review in Korea as well as the United States, this study explores the related variables to their suicide attempt. Research result says that multicultural youth's suicide is related to a variety of variables, including physical, psychological, educational, socio-economical, and cultural variables. Research implications are as follows: First, these variables can be utilized as predictive or protective factors to prevent their suicide. Second, theoretical framework for comprehensively understanding their suicidal issues needs to be developed. Third, both emergent and normal suicidal interventions need to be provided for multicultural youth in Korea.

다문화교육 분야의 연구동향에 대한 네트워크 분석: 동시출현단어의 시계열 분석중심으로 (Research trends in the field of multicultural education Network analysis:Focusing on Time series analysis of Co-word)

  • 본 연구는 다문화교육 연구분야에 대한 연구동향 파악을 목적으로 키워드 네크워크 분석을 통하여 지식구조를 파악하고자 하였다. 이를 위하여 2002년부터 2020년까지 KCI(한국학술지인용색인)에 등재된 논문들의 키워드를 대상으로 출현 빈도수가 6회 이상인 동시출현단어의 네트워크 분석을 통해 다문화교육의 연구동향과 지적구조를 파악했고 시계열 분석으로 연구변화를 분석하였다. 분석결과 1시기(2002년-2010년)는 다문화사회, 다문화주의가 연구중심이었고 2시기(2011년-2015년)는 다문화가정, 세계화, 교사교육이 추가로 출현되었으며, 3시기(2016-2020)는 다문화수용성, 다문화감수성, 다문화효능감 등이 새롭게 나타났다. 지난 19년간 한국사회에서 다문화교육 연구동향는 이론적 연구에서 실증적 연구로 연구주제가 변했고, 다문화교육 내용도 분야별, 대상별로 구체화되고 확장되었음을 확인하였다.

강원지역 수학과 예비중등교사의 다문화 교육에 대한 연구 (The study of multicultural education for preservice teachers in Gangwon-do who major in mathematics education)

  • The purpose of this research is to study a perception of multicultural education for preservice teachers who major in mathematics. The research has been done on the data collected from 126 preservice teachers in Gangwon-do who major in mathematics. The data collected include experience of multiculturalism, multicultural efficacy, multicultural understanding and multicultural sensitivity. The data have been analyzed by reliability test, t-test, one-way anova and pearson correlation. Most of preservice teachers who major in mathematics have had no experience of multiple cultures. But they have shown a high perception on multicultural education and a significant positive correlation on their experience of multiculturalism, multicultural efficacy and multicultural sensitivity. Furthermore, the female preservice teachers' multicultural efficacy, multicultural understanding and multicultural sensitivity are much more high than the male preservice teachers'. The difference between different sex has been statistically significant.

간호대학생의 다문화 경험과 다문화 효능감이 다문화 수용성에 미치는 영향 (A Study on Nursing Students' Multicultural Experience and Multicultural Efficacy on Multicultural Acceptance)

  • Purpose: This study is a research study to investigate the effects of multicultural experience, perception, and multicultural efficacy on nursing students' multicultural acceptance. Method: The relationship between variables was analyzed using SPSS/WIN 25 program by Pearson's correlation coefficient, and the effect of multicultural experience and perception and multicultural efficacy on multicultural acceptance was analyzed by multiple regression analysis. Results: TVariables affecting multicultural acceptance were multicultural awareness (β=0.30, p<001) and multicultural efficacy (β=0.49, p<.001), and multicultural efficacy had a significant effect on multicultural acceptance. In the results of the regression model, among the variables of multicultural awareness and multicultural efficacy, the multicultural efficacy variable had a greater effect on multicultural acceptance, and both variables had a positive effect on multicultural acceptance. The explanatory power of the regression model for multicultural acceptance was 57.5% (F=59.33, p<.001). Conclusion: Factors affecting multicultural acceptance of nursing students are multicultural awareness and efficacy. Support should be provided to provide opportunities to broaden acceptance.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify and illustrate academic trends that can be gleaned from family studies on multicultural families in Korea, and to gain a suggestion of the relatedness between discourse and practice by reviewing research in that field. The results of discourse analysis are as follows: First, research on multicultural families in family studies set limited focal subjects. Second, the research accepts assimilationism as a primary multicultural policy set forward by the Korean Government. Third, the research reflects a more or less conservative consciousness of family maintenance. Fourth, there have been some changes in perspectives from the perception of immigrant women in multicultural families as passive minorities to more active agents. Lastly, the research perceives family life in multicultural families as a project for practice.

A Longitudinal Study on Adolescent's Multicultural Acceptability and School Adjustment using Autoregressive cross-lagged model

  • This study aims to analyze the mutual influences between adolescents' multicultural acceptability and school adjustment. Research problems for research are as follows. First, is multicultural acceptability and school adjustment stable over time? Second, what is the longitudinal impact of school adjustment on multicultural acceptability over time? Third, what is the longitudinal impact of multicultural acceptability on school adjustment over time? The results of analyzing the research problems by applying the autoregressive cross-lagged model are as follows. First, the autoregressive model of school adjustment has a significant effect on the future time point and is stable over time. Second, the autoregressive model of multicultural acceptability have a significant effect on the future time point and is stable over time. Third, cross-lagged effect from school adjustment to multicultural acceptability has a statistically significant effect on the multicultural acceptability at a later time, and is stable over time. Fourth, cross-lagged effect from multicultural acceptability to school adjustment was not statistically significant at the time of multicultural acceptability, and there was no change with time. This study is meaningful to provide the theoretical and practical implications by verifying the influence of the three - year term data over time.

도서관 다문화서비스에 대한 이주민과 다문화전문가 및 사서들의 인식과 요구조사 (Immigrants', Multicultural Experts' and Librarians' Perception and Needs Analysis on Current Multicultural Library Services)

  • 본 연구는 도서관 다문화서비스에 대한 이주민, 다문화전문가, 사서의 인식과 요구조사를 통해 다문화서비스 제공을 위한 기본 방향과 방법에 대한 논의를 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해 심층 인터뷰와 포커스그룹 인터뷰 기법을 사용하여 도서관 다문화서비스에 대한 인식과 요구에 관한 데이터를 수집하였다. 조사결과, 이주민들과 사서들의 현재 도서관 다문화 서비스에 대한 주요 요구들과 인식에 있어 의미있는 특징과 차이들을 확인할 수 있었다. 이를 바탕으로 도서관 다문화서비스의 개선을 위해 다문화사회와 이주민에 대한 사서의 이해 증진, 수요자 중심적인 도서관 다문화서비스로의 전환, 다문화 유관기관과의 협력 강화, 도서관 협력에 기초한 다문화서비스 지원체계 구축, 도서관 다문화서비스 교육과정의 체계화 등이 요구되었다.

예비 중등교사의 다문화 인식이 다문화 효능감에 미치는 영향 (The Impact of Awareness of Multiculture on Efficacy of Multiculture in Pre-service Secondary Teachers)

  • The purpose of this research is to find the impact of multicultural awareness of pre-service secondary teachers on multicultural efficacy. Specific content of the study for achieving this purpose is as follows: First, the correlation between multicultural awareness of pre-service secondary teachers and multicultural efficacy was analyzed. Second, the effect relation between multicultural awareness of pre-service secondary teachers and multicultural efficacy was examined. As part of quantitative research, the method of study was a survey targeting 234 pre-service Secondary teachers who were sophomores, juniors and seniors at D University, P University and S University located in Busan. The study results earned from this process are as below: First, statistically significantly high positive correlation existed between multicultural awareness of pre-service secondary teachers and multicultural efficacy. The areas of acceptance, openness and respect, which are the sub-scale of multicultural awareness of pre-service secondary teachers, showed high positive correlations with all sub-scale of multicultural efficacy including general efficacy, efficacy in instructional function, efficacy in caring perspectives and efficacy in helping multicultural families. Second, the sub-scale of multicultural awareness that significantly affected general efficacy in the sub-scale of multicultural efficacy of pre-service secondary teachers was acceptance and respect. The sub-scale of multicultural awareness that significantly affected efficacy in instructional function was acceptance. The sub-scale of multicultural awareness that significantly affected efficacy in caring perspectives was acceptance and respect. The sub-scale of multicultural awareness that significantly affected efficacy in helping multicultural families was respect. It showed that openness in the sub-scale of multicultural awareness did not affect multicultural efficacy much.

군 간부의 다문화교육경험이 다문화수용성에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of Multicultural Education Experiences on the Multicultural Acceptability of Military Officers)

  • This research seeks to examine the relationship between multicultural education experiences and the multicultural acceptability of military officers. The sample included 552 Republic of Korea Army officers and non-commissioned officers(NCOs) who were located in Gangwon-Do and Gyeonggi-Do. For the statistical analysis, SPSS 18.0 was used to perform descriptive statistical analysis, frequency analysis, differential verification, and multiple regression analysis. The major analysis results are as follows: First, The multicultural acceptability of the military officers and NCOs, including sub-factors, was above the mean level; in terms of the ranking per sub-factor, the scores were in the order of diversity, relationship, and universality. The experience frequency of the targets and the evaluation was lowest in the educational experience within the military, and the evaluations were in the order of public media, school, and military. Second, The differential verification, depending on the characteristics of the sociology of the population and the existence of the multicultural educational experience, showed that the duration of education(personal factor), marital status(family factor), existence of a foreign relative(family factor), and existence of experience of managing multicultural personnel as soldiers under command(military-related factor) showed a significant difference in multicultural acceptability. Additionally, the existence of multicultural education through schools and public media lead to a significant difference in multicultural acceptability, but the existence of education within the military did not lead to a significant difference. Third, The analysis of the influencing relationship through multiple regression analysis showed that the higher the evaluation of multicultural education through the military, school, and public media, the higher the multicultural acceptability.Therefore, this research proposes multicultural educational plans that may improve the multicultural acceptability of military officers and NCOs as a way to establish a multicultural composition in the army.

  • 이 연구에서는 다문화가족지원센터 종사자들의 다문화의 수용성의 인식수준에 대한 분석과 다문화 태도와의 관계에 대한 분석을 이 연구의 목적으로 하였다. 연구목적을 위하여, 다문화가족지원센터 종사자들의 사회통계학적 특성에 따른 다문화 수용성과 다문화 태도의 차이가 어떠한지를 분석한 결과 변수들 간의 차이가 나타났다. 그리고 다문화가족지원센터 종사자들의 다문화 수용성의 다문화관계 형성능력, 다문화적 인식, 다문화적 공감의 요인들이 다문화 태도의 개방성과 수용성, 그리고 융통성에 미치는 영향을 분석한 결과, 변수들 간에 유의한 관계가 나타났다. 이를 통하여 다문화가족지원센터 종사자들의 다문화 태도의 수준을 제고시킬 수 있는 정책적 대안을 제시하였다는데 연구의 의의가 있는 것이다.
