  • This paper discusses on facial features extraction based on proposed skin color model. Different parts of face from input image are segmented based on skin color model. Moreover, this paper also discusses on concept to detect the eye and mouth position on face. A height and width ratio (${\delta}=1.1618$) based technique is also proposed to accurate detection of face region from the segmented image. Finally, we have cropped the desired part of the face. This exactly exacted face part is useful for face recognition and detection, facial feature analysis and expression analysis. Experimental results of propose method shows that the proposed method is robust and accurate.

  • If you don't regularly go to the dentist to check your teeth, it is difficult to notice cavities or various diseases of your teeth until you have pain or discomfort. Dental plaque is produced by the combination of food or foreign substances and bacteria in the mouth. Starch breaks down from the bacteria that form tartar. The acid that occurs at this time melts the enamel of the teeth and becomes a cavity. So tartar management is important. Poppyrin, the metabolism of bacteria in the mouth, reacts at 405 nm wavelengths and becomes red fluorescent, which can be seen by imaging through certain wavelength filters. By the above method, Frag and tartar are fluorescently detected and photographed with a yellow series of filters that pass wavelengths of 500 nm or more. It uses MATLAB to detect and display red fluorescence through image processing. Using the difference in voltage between normal teeth and tartar through an optical measuring circuit, it was connected to an Arduino and displayed on the LCD. This allows the user to know the presence and location of dental plaque more accurately.

  • Viola & Jones's face detection algorithm is a typical face detection algorithm and shows excellent face detection performance. However, the Viola & Jones's algorithm in images including many faces generates undetected faces and wrong detected faces, such as false faces and duplicate detected faces, due to face diversity. This paper proposes an improved face detection algorithm using a face verification algorithm that eliminates the false detected faces generated from the Viola & Jones's algorithm. The proposed face verification algorithm verifies whether the detected face is valid by evaluating its size, its skin color in the designated area, its edges generated from eyes and mouth, and its duplicate detection. In the face verification experiment of 658 face images detected by the Viola & Jones's algorithm, the proposed face verification algorithm shows that all the face images created in the real person are verified.

  • In this work the construction of a novel poly(vinyl chloride) membrane sensor based on 2,2'-dianiline disulfide (DADS) as a neutral carrier, o-nitrophenyloctyl ether (NPOE) as a plasticizer and sodium tetraphenyl borate (NaTPB) as an anionic site with unique selectivity towards Tm(III) ions is reported. The electrode has a linear dynamic range between $1.0\;{\times}\;10^{-6}$ and $1.0\;{\times}\;10^{-2}$ M, with a nice Nernstian slope of 19.5 ${\pm}$ 0.3 mV per decade and a detection limit of $4.0\;{\times}\;10^{-7}$ M at the pH range of 4.8-8.5. It has a very fast response time (<15 s) in the whole concentration range, and can be used for at least 4 weeks without any considerable divergence in the electrode potentials. The proposed sensor revealed comparatively good selectivity with respect to most common metal ions, and especially lanthanide ions. It was used as an indicator electrode in the potentiometric titration of Tm(III) ions with EDTA and in direct determination of concentration of Tm(III) ions in binary mixtures. It was also applied in determination of fluoride ions in mouth wash preparations.

  • The detection of foreign bodies in the upper-aerodigestive tract is a fairly frequent event and can occur in various areas and for various reasons. In rare cases, foreign bodies can simulate a neoplasia. We evaluated similar cases during emergency regimen with an oral cavity mucosal lesion, causing lockjaw, sore throat, dysphagia, and swelling of the submandibular and laterocervical region. Physical examination revealed an extensive mucosal ulceration in the floor of the mouth and the lateral surface of the tongue, comparable to oral cancer. During a second, more accurate assessment, a partially deteriorated iron supplement tablet was found embedded in a mucosal pocket. After removing the tablet, gradual normalization of the tissue was observed without any sequelae. This is one of the many reasons why it is advisable and useful in cases of oral lesions to collect a detailed medical history and to perform an accurate clinical evaluation, including inspection and palpation of the lesion, before proceeding to further diagnostic assessments, especially in elderly patients taking many medications. However unlikely, it is possible that difficulty in swallowing pills or tablets could generate tumorlike lesions.

  • In Facial Expression Recognition Systems (FERS), only particular regions of the face are utilized for discrimination. The areas of the eyes, eyebrows, nose, and mouth are the most important features in any FERS. Applying facial features descriptors such as the local binary pattern (LBP) on such areas results in an effective and efficient FERS. In this paper, we propose an automatic facial expression recognition system. Unlike other systems, it detects and extracts the informative and discriminant regions of the face (i.e., eyes, nose, and mouth areas) using Haar-feature based cascade classifiers and these region-based features are stored into separate image files as a preprocessing step. Then, LBP is applied to these image files for facial texture representation and a feature-vector per subject is obtained by concatenating the resulting LBP histograms of the decomposed region-based features. The one-vs.-rest SVM, which is a popular multi-classification method, is employed with the Radial Basis Function (RBF) for facial expression classification. Experimental results show that this approach yields good performance for both frontal and near-frontal facial images in terms of accuracy and time complexity. Cohn-Kanade and JAFFE, which are benchmark facial expression datasets, are used to evaluate this approach.

  • This paper proposes the way to prevent drowsy driving by recognizing drivers eyes and yawn using a front camera. The method uses the Viola-Jones algorithm to detect eyes area and mouth area from detection face region. In the eyes area, it uses the Hough transform to recognize eye circle in order to distinguish drowsy driving. In the mouth area, it determines whether for the driver to yawn through a sub-window testing by applying a HSV-filter and detecting skin color of the tongue. The test result shows that the recognition rate of yawn reaches up to 90%. It is expected that the method introduced in this paper might contribute to reduce the number of drowsy driving accidents.

  • The human faces do not have distinct features unlike other general objects. In general the features of eyes, nose and mouth which are first recognized when human being see the face are defined. These features have different characteristics depending on different human face. In this paper, We propose a face recognition algorithm using the hidden Markov model(HMM). In the preprocessing stage, we find edges of a face using the locally adaptive threshold scheme and extract features based on generic knowledge of a face, then construct a database with extracted features. In training stage, we generate HMM parameters for each person by using the forward-backward algorithm. In the recognition stage, we apply probability values calculated by the HMM to input data. Then the input face is recognized by the euclidean distance of face feature vector and the cross-correlation between the input image and the database image. Computer simulation shows that the proposed HMM algorithm gives higher recognition rate compared with conventional face recognition algorithms.
