This article reviews the exciting developments in Morse theory by S.Smale, Freedmann and others, including a proof of the generalized Poincare' Conjecture in the handle body theory. We study its relations with handle body theory _and geodesic theory.

The aim of this paper is to provide a proof for a version of the Morse inequalities for manifolds with boundary. Our main results are certainly known to the experts on Morse theory, nevertheless it seems necessary to write down a complete proof for it. Our proof is analytic and is based on the J. Roe account of Witten's approach to Morse Theory.

In this paper we propose how to detect circular objects in the gray scale image and segment them using the discrete Morse theory, which makes it possible to analyze the topology of a digital image, when it is transformed into the data structure of some combinatorial complex. It is possible to get meaningful information about how many connected components and topologically circular shapes are in the image by computing the persistent homology of the filtration using the Morse complex. We obtain a Morse complex by modeling an image as a cubical cellular complex. Each cell in the Morse complex is the critical point at which the topological structure changes in the filtration consisting of the level sets of the image. In this paper, we implement the proposed algorithm of segmenting the circularly shaped objects with a long persistence of homology as well as computing persistent homology along the filtration of the input image and displaying in the form of a persistence diagram.

The Morse code was firstly used for a wire telegraph service on May 1884 in USA. After about 10 years Korean researchers developed the Morse code in 1884 and the Morse code was firstly introduced in Korea for the wire telegraph service in September 1885. For about 130 years later, the Hangul Jamo Morse code has been used without any serious modification up to now. The Morse code is the variable length code system which each codes have a different code length. The related reference shows that English alphabet Morse code was applied in the coding theory. However, a result of analysis showed that the Hangul Jamo Morse code was not applied in the coding theory as the english alphabet code system. This paper presents the analysis result of Hangul Jamo Morse code according to the variable length coding theory. As a result of the analysis, when Hangul Jamo are coded with application of the variable length coding theory, the transmission data rate could be increased up to 25% compare to the existing code system. This paper shows a new Hangul Jamo Morse code system based on the analysis result.

This paper points out that the current Hengeul Morse Code is not reasonable in view of information theory. Based on the statistics on Hangeul investigated in 1973, this paper proposes a Hangeul Morse Code with care to handling two compound characters as source symbols and considers its effect on transmission speed. Thus the transmission speed of revised Hangeul Morse Coda is improved about 21% with compare to that of current one.

In this paper, we consider the following $Schr{\ddot{o}}dinger$-Kirchhoff-type equations $\[a+b\({\int}_{{\mathbb{R}}^N}({\mid}{\nabla}u{\mid}^2+V(x){\mid}u{\mid}^2)dx\)\][-{\Delta}u+V(x)u]=f(x,u)$, in ${\mathbb{R}}^N$. Under certain assumptions on V and f, some new criteria on the existence and multiplicity of nontrivial solutions are established by the Morse theory with local linking and the genus properties in critical point theory. Some results from the previously literature are significantly extended and complemented.

This study is designed to review the methods of duplicate copies decision making in the academic library. In this thesis, I surveyed queueing & markov model, statistical model, and simulation model. The contents of the study can be summarized as follows: 1) Queueing and markov model is used for one of duplicate copies decision-making methods. This model was suggested by Leimkuler, Morse, and Chen, etc. Leimkuler proposed growth model, storage model, and availability model through using system analysis method. Queueing theory is a n.0, pplied to Leimkuler's availability model. Morse ad Chen a n.0, pplied queueing and markov model to their theory. They used queueing theory for measuring satisfaction level and Markov model for predicting user demand. 2) Another model of duplicate copies decision-making methods is statistical model. This model is suggested by Grant and Sohn, Jung Pyo. Grant suggested a model with a formula to satisfy the user demand more than 95%, Sohn, Jung Pyo suggested a model with two formulars: one for duplicate copies decision-making by using standard deviation and the other for duplicate copies predicting by using coefficient of variation. 3) Simulation model is used for one of duplicate copies decision-making methods. This model is suggested by Buckland and Arms. Buckland considered both loan period and duplicate copies simultaneously in his simulation model. Arms suggested computer-simulation model as one of duplicate copies decision-making methods. These methods can help improve the efficiency of collection development and solve some problems (space, staff, budget, etc, ) of Korean academic libraries today.
