Phase Transformation Effect on Mechanical Properties of Ge2Sb2Te5 Thin Film (Ge2Sb2Te5 박막의 상변화에 의한 기계적 물성 변화)

  • Phase transformation effects on mechanical properties of $Ge_2Sb_2Te_5$, which is a promising candidate material for Phase Change Random Access Memory (PRAM), were studied. $Ge_2Sb_2Te_5$ thin films, which was thermally annealed with different conditions, were analyzed using XRD, AFM, 4-point probe method and reflectance measurement. As the temperature and the dwelling time increased, crystallity and grain size increased, which enhanced elastic modulus and hardness. Furthermore, N2 doping, which was used for better electrical properties, was proved to decrease elastic modulus and hardness of $Ge_2Sb_2Te_5$.

An Improved Constitutive Model of Shape Memory Alloy (형상기억합금의 개선된 구성적 모델)

  • Shape memory alloys(SMAs) exhibit pseudoelastic behavior, characterized by the recovery of an original shape even after severe deformation, during loading and unloading within appropriate temperature regimes. The distinctive mechanical behavior is associated with stress-induced transformation of austenite to martensite during loading and reverse transformation to austenite upon unloading. To develop a material model for SMAs, it is imperative to consider the difference in moduli of active phases. For example, the Young’s modulus of the martensite is one-third to one half of that of the austenite. The model proposed herein is a modification of the one proposed recently by Ho[17]. The prediction of the behavior of SMAs during unloading before the onset of reverse transformation was improved by introducing a new internal state variable incorporating the variation of the elastic modulus.

THE NOVELTY OF INFINITE SERIES FOR THE COMPLETE ELLIPTIC INTEGRAL OF THE FIRST KIND

  • According to the fact that the low convergence level of the complete elliptic integral of the first kind for the modulus which having values approach to one. In this paper we propose novelty of the complete elliptic integral which having new infinite series that consists of new modulus introduced as own modulus function. We apply scheme of iteration by substituting the common modulus with own modulus function into the new infinite series. We obtained so many new exact formulas of the complete elliptic integral derived from this method correspond to the number of iterations. On the other hand, it has been also obtained a lot of new transformation functions with the corresponding own modulus functions. The calculation results show that the enhancement of the number of significant figures of the new infinite series of the complete elliptic integral of the first kind corresponds to the level of quadratic convergence.

Kinetics of Athermal Martensitic Transformation in Yttria Doped Zirconia

  • The high temperature tetragonal phase of zirconia containing $1.40{\~}1.60\;mol\%$ of yttria can be fully retained at room temperature by rapid cooling. The metastable tetragonal phase transforms into the monoclinic phase athermally upon subzero cooling. The transformation exhibited an athermal burst transformation. The effects of yttria content and grain size on the athermal martensitic transformation were studied in detail. The burst temperature linearly decreased with increasing yttria content or decreasing grain size. To consider the distribution of martensite nuclei, the Weibull modulus of the athermal martensitic transformation was evaluated from the distribution of the burst transformation temperature. From the Weibull analysis, the distribution of embryos appears to be more homogeneous than that of the defects responsible for the fracture of similar material.

  • A numerical method was developed that imposes constraint condition on the order parameters in martensitic phase transformation. In the method, an amplitude function having values of 1 or 0 was multiplied to transformation rates. The merit of the method is that the imposition of the constraint condition is more straightforward than a method with Lagrangian multiplier and easy to implement in the tangent modulus method. The developed method is applied to three-dimensional finite element analyses of single and poly crystalline shape memory alloys.

VaR Estimation via Transformed GARCH Models (변환된 GARCH 모형을 활용한 VaR 추정)

  • In this paper, we investigate the approach to estimate VaR under the transformed GARCH model. The time series are transformed to approximate to the underlying distribution of error terms and then the parameters and the one-sided prediction interval are estimated with the transformed data. The back-transformation is applied to compute the VaR in the original data scale. The analyses on the asset returns of KOSPI and KOSDAQ are presented to verify the accuracy of the coverage probabilities of the proposed VaR.

Dynamic behavior of axially functionally graded simply supported beams

  • This paper focuses on the free vibration analysis of axially functionally graded (FG) Euler-Bernoulli beams. The material properties of the beams are assumed to obey the linear law distribution. The complexities in solving differential equation of transverse vibration of composite beams which limit the analytical solution to some special cases are overcome using the Differential Transformation Method (DTM). Natural frequencies and corresponding normalized mode shapes are calculated. Validation targets are experimental data or finite element results. Different parameters such as reinforcement distribution, ratio of the reinforcement Young's modulus to the matrix Young's modulus and ratio of the reinforcement density to the matrix density are taken into investigation. The delivered results prove the capability and the robustness of the applied method. The studied parameters are demonstrated to be very crucial for the normalized natural frequencies and mode shapes.

  • We propose an implicit numerical implementation for Leblond's transformation plasticity constitutive equations , which are widely used in welded steel structure. We apply Euler backward scheme rule to integrate the equations and determine the consistent tangent modulus. The implementation may be used with updated Lagrangian formulation. we test a simple butt-welding process to compare with SYSWELD and discuss the accuracy.

An Estimation of VaR in Stock Markets Using Transformations

  • It is usually assumed that asset returns in the stock market are normally distributed. However, analyses of real data show that the distribution tends to be skewed and to have heavier tails than those of the normal distribution. In this paper, we investigate the method of estimating the value at risk(VaR) of stock returns. The VaR is computed by using the transformation and back-transformation method. The analysis of KOSPI and KOSDAQ data shows that the proposed estimation outperformed that under the normal assumption.

Atomistic simulation of structural and elastic modulus of ZnO nanowires and nanotubes (산화아연 나노선과 나노튜브의 구조 및 탄성계수에 관한 원자단위 연구)

  • The structural stability and the elastic modulus of hexagonal ZnO nanowires and nanotubes are investigated using atomistic simulations based on the shell model. The ZnO nanowire with (10-10) facets is energetically more stable than that with (11-20). Our calculations indicate that the structural change of ZnO nanowires with (10-10) facets is sensitive to the diameter. With decreasing the diameter of ZnO nanowires, the unit-cell length is increased while the bond-length is reduced due to the change of surface atoms. Unlike the conventional layered nanotubes, the energetic stability of single crystalline ZnO nanotubes is related to the wall thickness. The potential energy of ZnO nanotubes with fixed outer and inner diameters decreases with increasing wall thickness while the nanotubes with same wall thickness are independent of the outer and inner diameters. The transformation of single crystalline ZnO nanotubes with double layer from wurtzite phase to graphitic suggests the possibility of wall-typed ZnO nanotubes. The size-dependent Young's modulus for ZnO nanowires and nanotubes is also calculated. The diameter and the wall thickness play a significant role in the Young's modulus of single crystalline ZnO nanowires and nanotubes, respectively.
