In this study, a new equivalent modeling technique of rollingstock for 1-D collision dynamics was proposed using crash analysis of 3-D finite element model in some detail. To obtain good simulation results of 1-D dynamic model, the force-deformation curves of crushable structures should be well modelled with crash analysis of 3-D finite element model. Up to now, the force-deformation curves of the crushable structures have been extracted from crash analyses of sectionally partitioned parts of the carbody, and integrated into 1-D dynamic model. However, the results of the 1-D model were not satisfactory in terms of crash accelerations. To improve this problem, the force-deformation curves of the crushable structures were extracted from collision analysis of a simplified train consist in this study. A comparative study applying the suggested technique shows in good agreements in simulation results between two models for KHST.

In this paper, a new two dimensional (2D) analytical modeling and simulation for a surrounding gate tunnel field effect transistor (TFET) is proposed. The Parabolic approximation technique is used to solve the 2-D Poisson equation with suitable boundary conditions and analytical expressions for surface potential and electric field are derived. This electric field distribution is further used to calculate the tunneling generation rate and thus we numerically extract the tunneling current. The results show a significant improvement in on-current characteristics while short channel effects are greatly reduced. Effectiveness of the proposed model has been confirmed by comparing the analytical results with the TCAD simulation results.
This paper suggests the passenger model considered evacuation behavioral characteristics on the passenger ship fire using a rules-based agent technique. The existing evacuation simulation system was modeled only passenger speed. The speed-based model considered passenger's physical characteristics, so it couldn't consider evacuation behavioral characteristics. For solving this problem, we modeled the passenger model using a rule-based agent applied evacuation behavioral characteristics. The rule-based agent consists of knowledge base and inference engine. In knowledge base, we represented evacuation behavioral characteristics, and chose the examples of the evacuation behavioral characteristics to show various patterns of behavior. And we simulated in the IMO MSC/Circ.1238 example 8 and we proved the simulation results could represent variety patterns of human behavior.
This study has an objective to estimate effect on water-quality enhancement by removal of contaminated river-bed material using a two-dimensional numerical modeling in the Seonakdong River, the Pyunggang River and the Maekdo River. RMA2 and RMA4 models were used for flow and contaminant transport simulation, respectively. After the analysis of the effects of flow restoration plan for the Seonakdong River system made by Lee et al (2008), simulation have been performed about scenarios which contains operations of the Daejeo Gate, the Noksan Gate, the Makdo Gate (on planning), and the Noksan Pumping Station. Because there is no option for elution from bed sediment in the RMA4 model, a simple technique has been used for initial condition modification for elution. The analyses revealed that the effect on water quality improvement due to dredging of bed sediment seemed to be less than 10 % of the total effect. The most efficient measure for the water quality improvement of the river system was the linked operation of water-gates and pumping station.

Finite element technique considering adhesive forces is proposed and applied to analyze the behavior of elastic hemispherical asperity adhesively contacting the plane surface of semi -infinite rigid body. It is demonstrated that the finite element model simulates interfacial phenomena such as jump -to-contact and adhesion hysteresis that cannot be simulated with the currently available adhesive contact continuum models. This simulation aiso provides valuable information on contact pressure, contact region and stress distributions. This technique is anticipated to be utilized in designing a low-adhesion surface profile for MEMS/NEMS applications since various contact geometries can be analyzed with this technique.

This study introduces a method for computation of process and operation gap in the specific construction operation(i.e., RC frame construction applying a block-grouping scheme) using CYCLONE-based simulation modeling and analysis technique. Since uncertainty of construction environment exists, a thoughtful production planning is required to effectively deal with a risk resulting in schedule delay in advance. This study presents the concepts of a time delay occurred in a process level and operation level in a operation model, and a method of measuring gap-times in each level while the simulation progresses. It helps a site manager to decide how many segmentation in a construction block is suitable for eliminating unproductive time-delays under the constrained resources (e.g., laborer, equipment). A case study presents a network model representing a three segmented RC frame work, and result obtained from the simulation experiment.
This paper describes an automated evaluation of electrostatic field for micro motors whose sizes range 10 to 103um. Electric field modeling in micro motors has been generally restricted to in-plane two-dimensional finite element analysis (FEA). In this paper, the actual three-dimensional geometry of the micro motor is considered. An automatic FE mesh generation technique, which is based on the fuzzy knowledge processing and computational geometry techniques, is incorporated in the system, together with one of commercial FE analysis codes and one of commercial solid modelers. The system allows a geometry model of concern to be automatically converted to different FE models, depending on physical phenomena to be analyzed, electrostatic analysis and stress analysis and so on. The FE models are then exported to the FE analysis code, and then analyses are peformed. Then, analytical analysis and FE analysis about the torque generated by electrostatic micro motor are performed. The starting torque is proportional to $V^2$, the calculated starting torque from the two-dimensional analytical solutions are three times larger than those from the three-dimensional FE solutions.

Pneumatic cushioning cylinders are commonly employed for vibration and shock control. A mathematical simulation model of a double acting pneumatic cushioning cylinder designed to absorb shock loads is presented which is based on the following assumptions; ideal equation of state isentropic flow through a port conservation of mass polytropic thermodynamics single degree of freedom piston dynamics and energy equivalent linear damping. These differential equation can be solved through numerical integration using the fourth order Runge-Kutta method. An experimental study was conducted to validate the results obtained by the numerical integra-tion technique. Simulated results show good agreement with experimental data. The computer simulation model presented here has been extremely useful not only in understanding the has been extremely useful not only in understanding the basic cushioning but also in evaluating different designs.
We review the modeling and simulation of fiber orientation during injection molding processes of short fiber reinforced thermoplastics. Generally, a group of fibers are described in terms of probability distribution function or orientation tensor. Various closure approximation models to express higher order tensor in terms of Bower order tensors are reviewed. Rheology of fiber suspensions, multiple fiber-fiber interaction and numerical technique for the prediction of fiber orientation are also considered for concentrated situations.
This paper proposed a new 2-D multi-body dynamic modeling technique to analyze overriding behaviors taking place during train collision. This dynamic model is composed of nonlinear springs, dampers and masses by considering the deformable characteristics of carbodies as well as energy absorbing structures and components. By solving this dynamic model for rollingstock, energy absorbing capacities of collision elements, accelerations of passenger sections, impact forces applied to interconnecting devices, and overriding displacements can be well estimated. For a case study, we chose KHST (Korean High Speed Train), obtained crush characteristic data of each carbody section from 3-D finite element analysis, and established a 2-D multi-body dynamic model. This 2-D dynamic model was simulated under the train-to-train collision scenarios, and evaluated with 3-D virtual testing model. It was founded from the simulation results that this 2-D dynamic model could well predict overriding behaviors, and the modeling technique of carbody deformation was very important in overriding estimation.
