It is important to derive reliable parameter values in the measurement-based load model development of electric power systems. However parameter estimation tasks, in practice, often face the parameter identifiability issue; whether or not the model parameters can be estimated with a given input-output data set in reliable manner. This paper introduces concepts and practical definitions of the local identifiability of model parameters. A posteriori local identifiability is defined in the sense of nonlinear least squares. As numerical examples, local identifiability of third-order induction motor (IM) model and a Z-induction motor (Z-IM) model is studied. It is shown that parameter ill-conditioning can significantly affect on reliable parameter estimation task. Numerical studies show that local identifiability can be quite sensitive to input data and a given local solution. Finally, several countermeasures are proposed to overcome ill-conditioning problem in measurement-based load modeling.
In order to identify a transfer function model with noise, penalty function method has been widely used. In this method, estimation process for possible model parameters from low to higher order proceeds the model identification process. In this study, based on linear estimation method, a new approach unifying the estimation and the identification of ARMAX model is proposed. For the parameter estimation of a transfer function model with noise, linear estimation method by noise separation is suggested instead of nonlinear estimation method. The feasibility of the proposed model identification and estimation method is verified through simulations, namely by applying the method to time series model. In the case of time series model with noise, the proposed method successfully identifies the transfer function model with noise without going through model parameter identification process in advance. A new algorithm effectively achieving model identification and parameter estimation in unified frame has been proposed. This approach is different from the conventional method used for identification of ARMAX model which needs separate parameter estimation and model identification processes. The consistency and the accuracy of the proposed method has been verified through simulations.
Power system loads have a significant impact on a system. Although it is difficult to precisely describe loads in a mathematical model, accurately modeling them is important for a system analysis. The traditional load modeling method is based on the load components of a bus. Recently, the load modeling method based on measurements from a system has been introduced and developed by researchers. The two major components of a load modeling problem are determining the mathematical model for the target system and estimating the parameters of the determined model. We use the composite load model, which has both static and dynamic load characteristics. The ZIP model and the induction motor model are used for the static and dynamic load models, respectively. In this work, we propose the measurement-based parameter estimation method for the composite load model. The test system and related measurements are obtained using transient security assessment tool(TSAT) simulation program and PSS/E. The parameter estimation is then verified using these measurements. Cases are tested and verified using the sample system and its related measurements.
In this paper, a new on-line parameter estimation methodology for the general continuous time Takagi-Sugeno(T-5) fuzzy model whose parameters are poorly known or uncertain is presented. An estimator with an appropriate adaptive law for updating the parameters is designed and analyzed based on the Lyapunov theory. The adaptive law is designed so that the estimation model follows the plant parameterized model. By the proposed estimator, the parameters of the T-S fuzzy model can be estimated by observing the behavior of the system and it can be a basis for the indirect adaptive fuzzy control. Based on the derived design method, the parameter estimation for controllable canonical T-S fuzzy model is also Presented.
By the state transformation including independent outputs functions, a nonlinear process model can be decomposed into two subsystems; the one(design model) is described in output variables as new states and used for control system synthesis and the other(disturbance model) is described in the original unavailable states and its couplings with the design model are treated as uncertain time-varying parameters in the design model. Its existence with respect to the design model is ignored. So, the design model is and uncertain time-variant system. Control synthesis based on a reduced design model is a combined form of a time-variant input-output linearization with parameter estimation. The parameter estimation is also based on the design model and it gives the parameter estimates such that the estimated outputs follow the actual outputs in a specified way. The disturbances form disturbance model and as well all the other uncertainties affecting the outputs will be reflected into the estimated parameters used in the linearizing control law.
Accurate load modeling is essential for power system static and dynamic analysis. By the nature of the problem of parameter estimation for power system load modeling using actual measurements, multiple local optimal solutions may exist and local methods can be trapped in a local optimal solution giving possibly poor performance. In this paper, Trust-Tech, a novel methodology for global optimization, is applied to tackle the multiple local optimal solutions issue in measurement-based power system load modeling. Multiple sets of parameter values of a composite load model are obtained using Trust-Tech in a deterministic manner. Numerical studies indicate that Trust-Tech along with conventional local methods can be successfully applied to power system load model parameter estimation in measurement-based approaches.
This paper presents an on-line scheme for parameter estimation of continuous-time systems, based on the model adjustment technique and the genetic algorithm technique. To deal with the initialisation and unmeasurable signal problems in on-line parameter estimation of continuous-time systems, a discrete-time model is obtained for the linear differential equation model and approximations of unmeasurable states with the observable output and its time-delayed values are obtained for the nonlinear state space model. Noisy observations may affect these approximation processes and degrade the estimation performance. A digital prefilter is therefore incorporated to avoid direct approximations of system derivatives from possible noisy observations. The parameters of both the model and the designed filter are adjusted on-line by a genetic algorithm, A set of simulation works for linear and nonlinear systems is carried out to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.
This paper considers the parameter estimation for the state-space model based time-delay systems in the case that the Lyapunov stability of the system is guaranteed. In order to estimate the parameters, two estimation methods can be proposed which are known as the parallel model and the series parallel model. It is shown that the parameters can be estimated using each method, and also certied that the results are correct by simulations.
