Calculation model for the shear strength of unsaturated soil under nonlinear strength theory

  • The shear strength of unsaturated soils, a research hotspot in geotechnical engineering, has great guiding significance for geotechnical engineering design. Although kinds of calculation models for the shear strength of unsaturated soil have been put forward by predecessors, there is still need for new models to extensively consider the nonlinear variation of shear strength, particularly for the nonlinear effect of the net normal stress on the shear strength of unsaturated soil. Here, the shear strength of unsaturated soils is explored to study the nonlinear effects of net normal stress with the introduction of a general nonlinear Mohr-Coulomb (M-C) strength criterion, and the relationship between the matric suction (or suction stress) and degree of saturation (DOS) constructed by the soil-water characteristics curve (SWCC) of van Genuchten is also applied for unsaturated soil. Then, two calculation models (i.e., an envelope shell model and an effective stress model) are established for the shear strength of unsaturated soils under the nonlinear strength theory. In these two models, the curve of the shear strength of unsaturated soils versus the net normal stress exhibits a tendency to gently. Moreover, the proposed formulas have flexibility and convenience with five parameters (for the effective stress model) or six parameters (for the envelope shell model), which are from the M-C strength parameters of the saturated soil and fitting parameters of SWCC of van Genuchten. Thereafter, by comparison with the classical theory of the shear strength of unsaturated soils from some actual cases, the rationality and accuracy of the present models were verified.

라쉬 모델을 사용한 본초학 시험의 학업역량 분석 연구 (Study on the Academic Competency Assessment of Herbology Test using Rasch Model)

  • Objectives: There should be an objective analysis on the academic competency for incorporating Computer-based Test (CBT) in the education of traditional Korean medicine (TKM). However, the Item Response Theory (IRT) for analyzing latent competency has not been introduced for its difficulty in calculation, interpretation and utilization. Methods: The current study analyzed responses of 390 students of 8 years to the herbology test with 14 items by utilizing Rasch model, and the characteristics of test and items were evaluated by using characteristic curve, information curve, difficulty, academic competency, and test score. The academic competency of the students across gender and years were presented with scale characteristic curve, Kernel density map, and Wright map, and examined based on T-test and ANOVA. Results: The estimated item, test, and ability parameters based on Rasch model provided reliable information on academic competency, and organized insights on students, test and items not available with test score calculated by the summation of item scores. The test showed acceptable validity for analyzing academic competency, but some of items revealed difficulty parameters to be modified with Wright map. The gender difference was not distinctive, however the differences between test years were obvious with Kernel density map. Conclusion: The current study analyzed the responses in the herbology test for measuring academic competency in the education of TKM using Rasch model, and structured analysis for competency-based Teaching in the e-learning era was suggested. It would provide the foundation for the learning analytics essential for self-directed learning and competency adaptive learning in TKM.

복합화력발전소 가스터빈 발전기계통 모델정수 도출 및 검증을 위한 특성시험 (Characteristic Tests on the Gas Turbine Generator System for Determination and Verification of Model Parameters in a Combined Cycle Power Plant)

  • 본 연구에서는 서인천복합 6호기 가스터빈 발전기계통에 대하여 기술특성시험을 실시하여 모델정수를 도출하고 검증하였다. 발전기 최대/최소 무효전력 한계시험 결과 최대 무효전력 한계는 80 MVar이고, 최소 무효전력 한계는 -30 MVar이다. 발전기는 GENROU 모델을 사용하였고, 계자시정수(T'do)는 4.077 s, 관성정수(H)는 5.461 P.U로 결정하였다. 여자시스템은 ESST4B 모델을 사용, 무부하 2% AVR 스텝시험을 모의하는 방식으로 모델정수를 도출하고 검증하였으며, PSS 모델링은 PSS2A 모델정수로 도출하였고, PSS Off/On일때 측정된 계측 데이터를 모의, 비교하여 검증하였다. 조속기-터빈는 GGOV1 모델을 사용하여 모델정수를 도출하고 검증하였다. PSS/E 시뮬레이션 프로그램을 통해 10% 조속기 스텝시험을 모의하여 결정된 조속기-터빈 모델정수의 수치 안정성을 확인하였다.

  • This paper shows the characteristic analysis of single-phase LSPM(Line Start Permanent Magnet) synchronous motor considering overhang structure. To obtain the dynamic and steady performance of the motor, the D-Q equivalent circuit is used and the circuit parameters are extracted by 3D FEM. The performance of the model with overhang is compared with conventional model without overhang on the condition that both models have the same volume of the permanent magnet.

  • In this paper, we proposed the newly design method for extracting of the saw resonator characteristic. For the parameters of the proposed equivalent model, we adjusted and optimized the variables of several functions. As verification of proposed method, we firstly designed and fabricated cellular saw resonator by using the proposed model resonator. As the simulated and measured results of the proposed design method are almost equaled, we confirmed the usefulness of this method. we knew the usefulness of this method. Finally we designed the 800MHz cellular Tx/Rx band pass filter by using this designed resonator.

  • In this paper, we calculated permanent magnetic linkage flux ${\psi}_{\alpha}$ and Ld, Lq parameters of IPMSM and compared two model which has different barrier width. IPMSM has two kinds of torque that reluctance torque and magnetic torque. In constant torque region, using the Maxwell stress tensor method, we calculated the torque and current phase angle ${\beta}$ which has appeared maximum torque. In weakening flux region, we calculated the current phase angle ${\beta}$ which flux ${\psi}_o$ lower than limited flux ${\psi}_{omax}$. From the current phase angle ${\beta}$, we calculated torque by torque equation and compared two model characteristic.

  • Taguchi's robust design methodology has focus only a single characteristic or response, but the quality of most products is seldom defined by a characteristics, and is rather the composite of a family of characteristics which are often interrelated and nearly always measured in a variety of units. The multiple characteristics problem is how to compromise the conflicts among the selected levels of the design parameters for each individual characteristic. In this paper, Methodology using SN ratio optimized by univariate technique is proposed and a parameter design procedure to achieve the optimal compromise among several different response variables is developed. Also, We propose a decision model to incorporates the values assigned by a group of experts on different factors in weighting decision. Using this model, SN ratio of taguchi method for each of subjective factors as well as values of weights are used in this comprehensive method for weighting decision.

  • Dynamic behaviors of the GMAW system are simulated using the short-circuit transfer model and the characteristic equations fir the power supply, wire system and arc. The conventional wire equation, which relates the rate change of the wire extension to the wire feed rate and melting rate, is modified to include effects of the molten drop attached at the wire tip. The modified wire equation describes behaviors of the GMAW system more precisely and provides information about the initial bridge volume for short-circuit transfer. The proposed short-circuit model predicts the variation of parameters such as the current, voltage, short-circuit frequency and time considering the effects of the surface tension and electromagnetic force due to current. The calculated results are in broad agreements with the experimental results under the argon shielding condition.

  • This paper presents an approach to optimum design of Moving Magnet Type Linear Oscillatory Actuator(MM-LOA). The Finite Element Method is applied to characteristic parameters for characteristic analysis and in order to reduce modeling time and efforts, the moving model node technique is used. In addition the neural network is used to reduce computational time of analysis according to changing design variable. To confirm the validity of this study, optimum design results are compared with results of analysis procedure that is verified by experiment.

  • The current-voltage modeling plays an important role in characterizing photovoltaic systems. A solar cell has a nonlinear characteristic with various parameters influenced by the external environments such as the irradiance and the temperature. In order to accurately predict current-voltage characteristics at low irradiance, the artificial neural networks are applied to effectively quantify nonlinear behaviors. In this paper, a multi-layer perceptron scheme that can make accurate predictions is employed to learn complex formulas for large amounts of continuous data. The simulated results of artificial neural networks model show the accuracy improvement by using MATLAB/Simulink.
