A programmable Soc for Var ious Image Applications Based on Mobile Devices

  • This paper presents a programmable System-On-a-chip for various embedded applications that need Neural Network computations. The system is fully implemented into Field-Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) based prototyping platform. The SoC consists of an embedded processor core and a reconfigurable hardware accelerator for neural computations. The performance of the SoC is evaluated using real image processing applications, such as optical character recognition (OCR) system.

  • The 4th Industrial Revolution, intelligent automobile application technology is evolving beyond the limit of the mobile device to a variety of application software and multi-media collective technology with big data-based AI(artificial intelligence) technology. with the recent commercialization of 5G mobile communication service, artificial intelligent automobile technology, which is a fusion of automobile and IT technology, is evolving into more intelligent automobile service technology, and each multimedia platform service and application developed in such distributed environment is being developed Accordingly, application software technology developed with a single system SoC of a portable terminal device through various service technologies is absolutely required. In this paper, smart device design for ontology design of intelligent automobile open platform enables to design intelligent automobile middleware software design technology such as Android based SVC Codec and real time video and graphics processing that is not expressed in single ASIC application software technology as SoC based application designWe have experimented in smart device environment through researches, and newly designed service functions of various terminal devices provided as open platforms and application solutions in SoC environment and applied standardized interface analysis technique and proved this experiment.

  • 최근 휴대폰, PMP 와 같은 모바일 장치를 개발하는 데에 그 성능과 저전력화 SoC 기술을 적용하고 있다. 또한 화상통화와 같은 영상 및 음성 멀티미디어 서비스가 확장되고 있다. 그러나 현재 모바일 SoC 기술에서 멀티미디어 서비스의 실시간 요구사항을 고려한 네트워크 프로토콜 설계에 대한 연구가 부족하다. 이에 본 논문에서는 실시간성 모바일 SoC 에서 실시간성을 제공하는 네트워크 프로토콜 스택을 설계하는 기법을 제안하고자 한다. 그리고 제안한 기법이 구현된 실시간 네트워킹 SoC 플랫폼의 성능을 실험하였으며, 그 결과 기존의 기법보다 더 좋음을 확인하였다.

  • 유비쿼터스 사회에서는 언제, 어디서나 네트워크에 연결하여 다양한 형태의 실감 정보를 제공 받아 더욱더 풍요로운 삶을 누릴 수 있을 것이다. 이것은 음성인식 및 영상합성 생성기술, 입체 영상/음향 입?출력기술, IT-NT-BT 기술융합의 가속화로 지능형 실감형 정보처리는 물론 휴먼정보 등의 다양한 정보처리가 가능한 유비쿼터스 휴대 단말기에 의해서 실현될 것이다. 휴대 단말기에서 반도체는 약 $40{\sim}50%$의 비중을 차지하는 가장 중요한 부품이며, 다양한 지능형 실감형 정보를 처리하기 위하여 막대한 양의 데이터를 처리할 수 있는 저전력 고성능 반도체 SoC 개발이 필수적이다. 본고에서는 휴대 단말기에 사용되는 SoC 기술 및 재구성형 프로세서 기술 동향을 파악함으로써, 유비쿼터스 단말기에서 필수적으로 사용될 반도체 SoC 기술의 발전 방향에 대해서 전망해 보았다.

Design and Implementation of the GNEX C-to-Android Java Converter using a Source-Level Contents Translator (소스 레벨 콘텐츠 변환기를 이용한 GNEX C-to-Android Java 변환기의 설계 및 구현)

  • Since Korean mobile communication companies each use different mobile platforms, developers must configure and translate their game contents to run under each of the platforms so that they can be serviced correctly. Nevertheless, such translation tasks require lengthy times and costs. This is one of the reasons why a variety of contents could not be provided. In order to mitigate such difficulty, this paper implemented an automatic mobile contents translating system that automatically translates mobile C game contents of the GNEX platform to mobile java contents of the Android platform as a smart platform using a source-level contents translator. The GNEX C-to-Android Java automatic contents translation system helps minimize the amount of time and cost required in servicing contents to different mobile communication companies by promptly translating a platform-specific-content to run under other platforms. Also, the automatic translation and servicing of existing contents increases the reusability of these contents and also the productivity of new contents thereby offering users with a more variety of games.

  • Almost every mobile phone supports MMS to send and receive multimedia messages among users. MMS is suitable for different types of mobile phones and effectively operates in wireless environments. So the mobile content delivery method using MMS can be efficient. However, there would be some problems if a mobile service provider tries to deliver mobile content to subscribers by using the existing MMS. In this paper, we propose an improved data transmission and control scheme for MMS. Our scheme assists mobile service providers to deliver mobile contents easily by modifying the MMS system software. By using our scheme, mobile service providers are able to manage mobile contents stored in mobile devices. Therefore, they can provide various services such as mobile daily news service, automatic software upgrade service, mobile advertising service, etc. We verify the possibility of the proposed scheme through simulation.

  • In this paper, we present a control method of mobile power assist systems. Most of mobile power assist systems have a heavy base for preventing easy tumbling, so continual movement of the base during operations causes high energy consumption and gives the high risk of human injury. Furthermore, the slow dynamics of the base limits the frequency bandwidth of the whole system. Thus we propose a cooperation control method of the mobile base and manipulator, which removes the unnecessary movements of the base. In our scheme, the mobile base does not move until the center of gravity(C.G) of the system goes outside a safety region. When C.G. reaches the boundary of the safety region, the base starts moving to recover the manipulator's initial configuration. By varying the parameters of a human impedance controller, the operator is warned by a force feedback that C.G. is on the marginal safety region. Our scheme is implemented by assigning a nonlinear mass-damper-spring impedance to the tip of the manipulator.   • As mobile systems are performing various functionality in the IoT (Internet of Things) era, network-on-chip (NoC) plays a pivotal role to support communication between the tens and in the future potentially hundreds of interacting modules in system-on-chips (SoCs). Owing to intensive research efforts more than a decade, NoCs are now widely adopted in various SoC designs. Especially, studies on application-specific NoCs (ASNoCs) that consider the heterogeneous nature of modern SoCs contribute a significant share to use of NoCs in actual SoCs, i.e., ASNoC connects non-uniform processing units, memory, and other intellectual properties (IPs) using flexible router positions and communication paths. Although it is not difficult to find the prior works on ASNoC synthesis and optimization, little research has addressed the issues how to convert different protocols and data widths to make a NoC compatible with various IPs. Thus, in this paper, we address important issues on ASNoC implementation to support and convert multiple interfaces. Based on the in-depth discussions, we finally introduce our FPGA-proven full-custom ASNoC.

Structural Analysis of High-Density Mobile Micro-Connector (초소형 고집적 모바일 커넥터부품 구조해석)

  • Recently, as small-sized display products such as mobile phones and digital cameras have become lighter and smaller, the size of electric signal delivery part, connector for the mobile display products, also, needs to become smaller, so high-density integration like shortening the distance between signal delivery media, conductors is necessary. With the micro and high-density integration of the connector, it is necessary to maintain contact to a certain degree for keeping intensity and delivering electric signal smoothly to prevent a defect with a specific impact. Accordingly, this study carried out a structural analysis according to the operating mechanisms of 0.16CHP Class Bottom Contact FPC Connector and 0.24CHP Class BTB Connector mostly used in small-sized mobile display products such as mobile phones and digital cameras. As a result of the analysis, both connectors had lower than 997MPa, yield strength of connector material C5240-XSH, so it is judged that permanent plastic deformation would not occur, and that a contact force between the connector and FPC film occurs to a certain degree, so that there would not be any defect in electric signal delivery.

  • Mobile robots include control modules for autonomous obstacle avoidance and navigation. They are range modules to detect and avoid obstacles. motor control modules to operate two wheels. and encoder modules for localization. There is needed an appropriate controller for each modules. In this paper. a control system. including 18 channels for Sonar sensors. 4 channels for PWM modules. and 4 channels for encoder modules. is proposed using TMS320C32 DSP adopted with CAN. The board communicates with other modules by CAN. so that mobile robots can perform several tasks in real time. So we can realize on autonomous mobile robot with basic functions such as obstacle avoidance by using the developed controller. Especially. this controller has 100 msec scan time for 16 sonar sensors and can detect closer objects comparing with standard sonar sensors.
