  • A model test was carried out, in order to verify the hydrodynamic performances of public 30 feet class sailing yacht. In the initial design stage, the performances and the running attitude of sail yacht including the hull form and sail plan, appendages were estimated by VPP, from which made the representative test conditions. A new experiment system such as captive model device was composed because the running attitude could be changed by wind conditions. The test results show that the minimum resistance is generated in the heeling 20 degree, which was expected in the initial design stage. It is thought to be the useful informations that the keel has an effects on hydrodynamic forces and resistance differences between the upwind and the downwind condition. Also this paper is associated with the state-of-the-art of calculating sailing yacht performance as this is performed in velocity prediction program (VPP). The VPP results shows a typical shape of a sailing yacht and the designed yacht has the best performance at 120 degree angle of true wind with 20 knots.

  • Recently low resistance of bus line is required for large screen size TFT-LCD panels. As a result, lower resistance Al-alloy is currently reviewed extensively. The resistivity is required smaller than 10 $\mu$$\Omega$cm. In this paper, Al-Nd thin film were deposited on glass substrates by D.C. magnetron sputtering system under various condition. Its properties were characterized by SEM, AFM, XRD, 4-ping-probe. The optimal condition of Al-Nd was 12$0^{\circ}C$, 125W, 0.4Pa, 30sccm(Ar) and 35$0^{\circ}C$, 20min. annealing. At that condition the resistivity of Al-Nd(2wt.%) was about 4 $\mu$$\Omega$cm. The minimum contact resistance of ITO/Nd was about 110$\mu$$\Omega$cm in the condition of 30$0^{\circ}C$, Ar 30 sccm. • Tensile and J-R tests were carried out to estimate the effects of dynamic strain aging(DSA) on SA106Gr.C piping steel. Tensile tests were performed under temperature range RT to $400^{\circ}C$ md strain rates from $1.39{\times}10^{-4}\;to\;6.95{\times}10^{-2}/s$. Fracture toughness was tested in the temperature range RT to $350^{\circ}C$ and load-line displacement rates 0.4 and 4mm/min. The effects of DSA on the tensile properties were clearly observed for phenomena such serrated flow, variation of ultimate and yield stress, and negative stram rate sensitivity. However, the magnitude of serration and strength increase by DSA was relatively small. this may be due to high ratio of Mn to C. In addition, crack initiation resistance, Ji and crack growth resistance, dJ/da were reduced in the range of $200-300^{\circ}C$, where DSA appeared as serrated flow and UTS hardening. The temperature corresponding to minimum fracture resistance was shifted to higher temperature with increasing loading rate.

  • From the singularity distribution which obtained by minimum wave resistance condition, optimum hull form is obtained by stream line trancing method as Inui and Pien did. Thus obtained hull form has a extruded bottom along a keel line. Therefore the hull form must be modified to have flat bottom. This modification process is conducted by putting a fictitious bottom. It is found out that the wave resistance does not significantly alter at design speed even though the hull form has remarkably changed at the bottom. Therefore flattening the bottom by the effect of depth may be more rational for practical hull form design than ordinary manual hull-form modification.

  • The trench MOSFET structure is characterized by reduced on-resistance due to elimination of $R_{JFET}$ and high packing density. An analytical calculation of Ron as the sum of $R_{ch}$ and $R_{epi}$ has been reported previously for the trench MOSFET structure. However, the accumulation layer resistance may not be neglected for Trench MOSFET especially for a relatively large value of the cell spacing, where a major contribution to Ron comes from Ra as the simulation results in this paper shows.

  • Scads of earthquake-resistant systems are being invented around the globe to ensure structural resistance against the lateral forces induced by earthquake loadings considering structural safety, efficiency, and economic aspects. Shear wall and Bracing systems are proved to be two of the most viable solutions for seismic strengthening of structures. In the present study, three numerical models of a G+10 storied building are developed in commercial building analysis software considering shear wall and bracing systems for earthquake resistance. Material nonlinearity is introduced by using plastic hinges. Analyses are performed utilizing two dynamic methods: Response Spectrum analysis and nonlinear Time-history analysis using Kobe and Loma Prieta earthquake data and results are compared to observe the nonlinear behavior of structures. The outcomes exposed that a significant increase in the seismic responses occurs due to the nonlinearity in the building systems. It was also found that building with shear wall exhibits maximum resistance and minimum nonlinearity when subjected to dynamic loadings.

  • The aim of this study is to investigate the seismic resistance of dry stone arches under in-plane seismic loading. For that purpose, several numerical analyses were performed using the combined finite-discrete element method (FDEM). Twelve types of arches with different ratios of a rise at the mid-span to the span, different thicknesses of stone blocks and different numbers of stone blocks in the arch were subjected to an incremental dynamic analysis based on excitation from three real horizontal and vertical ground motions. The minimum value of the failure peak ground acceleration that caused the collapse of the arch was adopted as a measure of the seismic resistance. In this study, the collapse mechanisms of each type of stone arch, as well as the influence of the geometry of stone blocks and stone arches on the seismic resistance of structures were observed. The conclusions obtained on the basis of the performed numerical analyses can be used as guidelines for the design of dry stone arches.

  • The planing craft is designed specifically to achieve comparatively high speed on the surface of the water. In general, the stepped hull craft has effect improvement in speed and fuel-efficiency because of the reduction of total resistance by a small wetted surface area without corresponding stepped hull craft. In this paper, the high speed stepped hull crafts with respect to the number of bottom steps were performed to compare the effect of resistance performance using at-sea model-test method. In conclusion, the stepped hull craft with twin-step was proved to be effective to reduce the total resistance.

  • The model tests of short pile with very small pile length/diameter(L/D) were performed in this paper. Varying the pile diameter, length, and the lateral loading point, the lateral resistance and behavior of very short pile were studied in this model tests. The experimental and analytical results are as follows. The lateral ultimate resistance of short pile in sands was the maximum at the point of h/L=0.75, regardless of pile length/diameter(L/D). As the pile diameter is larger, the lateral ultimate resistance of pile with L/D=1 decreases a little and the lateral resistance increases according to the ratio of pile length/diameter. As the lateral loads are acting on the pile, the displacement of pile head is maximum at the pile top of h/L=0, but minimum at the middle point of the pile. And if the loading point is under the middle of pile, the displacement of pile head occurs oposite in the loading direction, but its magnitude is very small.
