  • A block replacement policy using items with different reliability is discussed. We divide system unit failure modes into two modes and use less reliable unit when operating unit fails near the planned preventive replacement time. In this policy, item A has two failure modes. Mode-1 failure is removed by minimal repair, mode-2 failure by replacement. If mode-2 failure of item A happens in (0, $T-{\delta}$), failure item A is replaced by new item A. If mode-2 failure of item A happens in ($T-{\delta}$, T), failure item A is replaced by new item B. Item B should be cheaper and less durable than item A. Under this policy, we determine the preventive replacement interval $T^{*}$ and the interval ${\delta}^{*}$ of item B replacement which minimize the cost rate per unit time.

  • In this paper, we consider the optimal replacement policies following the expiration of the combination warranty. The combination warranty can be divided into the renewing combination warranty and the non-renewing combination warranty. The criterion used to determine the optimal replacement period is the overall value function based on the expected cost and the expected downtime. Thus, we obtain the expected cost rate per unit time and the expected downtime per unit time for our model. And then the overall value function suggested by Jiagn and Ji(2002) is applied to obtain the optimal replacement period. The numerical examples are presented for illustrative purpose.

  • Engineers are always concerned with life cycle costs for making important economic decisions through engineering action like reliability of products. Decisions during the reliability growth development of products involve trade-offs between invested costs and its returns. In order to find minimal LCC containing the reliability improvement cost, production cost, repair and replacement costs, and holding cost of spare parts for failure items we suggest in this paper relationship between development cost and sustaining cost in values of growth parameter $\beta$ of AMSAA model. This model is applied to the reliability growth program based on AMSAA model during R&D phase, the warranty activities of items and the block replacement policy for maintenance of items in avionic equipment.

  • This paper considers a Bayesian approach to determine an optimal replacement policy for a repairable system with warranty period. The mathematical formula of the expected cost rate per unit time is obtained for two cases : RFRW(renewing free-replacement warranty) and RPRW(renewing pro-rata warranty). When the failure time is Weibull distribution with uncertain parameters, a Bayesian approach is established to formally express and update the uncertain parameters for determining an optimal replacement policy. Some numerical examples are presented for illustrative purpose.

  • This paper considers a preventive maintenance policy following the expiration of renewing warranty, Most preventive maintenance models assume that each PM costs a fixed predetermined amount regardless of the effectiveness of each PM. However, it seems more reasonable to assume that the PM cost depends on the degree of effectiveness of the PM activity. In this paper we consider a periodic preventive maintenance policy following the expiration of renewing warranty when the PM cost is an increasing function of the PM effect. The optimal number and period for the periodic PM policy with effect dependent cost that minimize the expected cost rate per unit time over an infinite time span are obtained.

  • In this paper we present the optimal replacement policies following the expiration of combination warranty. We consider two types of combination warranty policies: renewing warranty and non-renewing warranty. The criterion used to determine the optimal replacement period is the expected cost rate per unit time from the user'perspective. The optimal maintenance period following the expiration of combination warranty is obtained. Some numerical examples are presented for illustrative purpose.

  • This paper suggests the optimal periodic preventive maintenance policies after the combination warranty is expired. After the combination warranty is expired, a repairable system undergoes PM periodically and is minimally repaired at each failure. And also the system is replaced by a new system at the N th PM. In this case, we derive the mathematical formula for the expected cost rate per unit time. The optimal number and period for the periodic PM that minimize the expected cost rate per unit time are obtained. Some numerical examples are presented for illustrate purpose.

  • In this paper, we consider a periodic preventive maintenance policy in which each preventive maintenance reduces the hazard rate of amount proportional to the failure intensity, which increases since the system started to operate. And the effect of preventive maintenance at each preventive maintenance epoch is different. The expected cost rate per unit time for the proposed model is obtained. We discuss the optimal number N of the periodic preventive maintenance and the optimal period x, which minimize the expected cost rate per unit time and obtain the optimal preventive maintenance schedule for given cost structures of the model. A numerical example is given for the purpose of illustrating our results when the failure time distribution is Weibull distribution.

  • This paper is concerned with warranty cost models for a product with two types of failure ; type 1 failures corrected by minimal repair and type 2 failures removed only by replacement. Two warranty policies involving an initial free service period followed by a pro-rata period are considered ; the difference is whether the warranty is renewed or not when type 2 failure occures during its free service period. Expected warranty costs under the two policies are obtained, and their behaviors are examined for the case where type 1 and 2 failure distributions are Weibull and exponential, respectively.
