A Preliminary Study of the Application of Prototyping Tools for Design Education Plans; Focusing on Open Source Microcontroller Boards

  • In the past, design has been recognized as a means to determine colors, shapes, and functions Recently, however, it has been accepted in a wider sense, namely designing the entire service, including product and user experience design. In this way, in addition to creativity and expressive power that designers have as their main competence, according to the expansion of this design object, designers are required to have comprehensive abilities in related fields and accompanying technical professional abilities. If designing as a technology application as a direction toward this situation, design education can be carried out by approaching technology as a method of expression or design subject. It can also be an effective alternative towards improving the understanding of technology. Meanwhile, many small microcontroller board products with advanced functions and multi-functional specialized programming integrated development environments (IDEs) are becoming widespread due to their open source, low cost, and scalable features. However, students in the design department who lack the basic knowledge of science and engineering have difficulties learning, which requires considerable time and is required for practical use. From this point of view, we have made advancements in the technical understanding of design education by conducting fundamental research to the effectiveness of microcontroller-based prototyping tools as means of expression. We also conducted basic education of microcontroller boards for a certain period of time on students who majored in design in conjunction with the basic survey and investigated the obstacle factors using a questionnaire. Through these surveys, we have confirmed the necessity of designing microcontroller boards of low difficulty, which simplify the coding process that can act as a barrier in difficulty for design students to apply smoothly in design education. In addition, we intend to carry out a basic study on the guideline of microcontroller design for design education and composition of education programs.

암호통신 응용을 위한 마이크로 컨트롤러 기반 로렌츠 카오스 시스템 (Microcontroller based Chaotic Lorenz System for Secure Communication Applications)

  • 본 논문에서는 암호통신 응용을 위한 로렌츠 카오스 회로를 구현한다. 이산형 카오스 로렌츠 시스템을 구현하기 위하여, PIC18F 계열의 마이크로 콘트롤러가 사용되었으며, 제안하는 카오스 회로는, 연산증폭기 기반 아날로그 회로와는 다르게, 8 비트PIC 마이크로 콘트롤러 칩과 3개 R-2R 타입의 디지털-아날로그 변환기로 이루어진다. 마이크로 컨트롤러 포트 B, C 및 D에서 시간 파형 X, Y 및 Z가 출력되도록 하였다. 모의실험을 위하여 MATLAB 및 PROTEUS 소프트웨어 플랫폼이 사용되었다. 제안하는 회로에 대하여, MATLAB 및 프로테우스 프로그램에 의한 모의실험을 통하여 시간파형, 주파수 특성, 2차원 위상특성 해석을 실시하였다. 최종적으로, 카오스 시간파형, 2차원(2D) 어트랙터 가 얻어졌고, 카오스 신호에 기반한 아날로그 신호의 암호통신 검증을 실험을 통하여 확인 하였다.

  • 최근 전력용 대용량 반도체 소자의 개발과 저가형 마이크로프로세서의 발전에 따라서 일반 산업현장에서도 디지털 제어방식이 일반화 되어가고 있다. 그러나 용접산업분야에서는 이러한 마이크로프로세서를 적용한 용접기 시스템에 관한 연구가 미진하고 이에 따라서 용접기에 필요한 각종 보호 및 용접성능향상을 위한 기능을 구현하기 위한 다수의 소자를 사용하여야한다. 따라서 본 본문에서는 3상 제어 정류형 CO2 가스메탈 아크 용접기의 디지털 컨트롤러 설계와 용접기에 필요한 각종 보호 및 용접성능향상을 위한 기능이 디지털화에 관하여 연구하였고, 그 결과 용접성능 향상뿐만 아니라 기존의 아날로그 컨트롤러와 비교시 제작비 절감도 가능하였다.

  • Modem electronic circuits are of importance for the function of communication, traffic systems and security systems. An intentional threat to these systems could be of big casualties and economic disasters. This paper has shown damage effect of microcontroller device with coupling caused by UWB-HPEM(Ultra Wideband-High Power Electromagnetics). The UWB measurements were done at an Anechoic Chamber using a RADAN UWB voltage source, which can generate a transient impulse of about 180 kV. The susceptibility level for microcontroller has been assessed by effect of various operation line lengths. The results of susceptibility analysis has showed that the effect of the reset line length on the MT(Ma1function Threshold) is larger than the effect of the different line length(Data, Power, Clock). With the knowledge of these parameters electronic system can be designed exactly suitable concerning the system requirements. Based on the results, susceptibility of microcontroller can be applied to protection plan to elucidate the effects of microwaves on electronic equipment.

Radiation testing of low cost, commercial off the shelf microcontroller board

  • The impact of gamma radiation on a commercial off the shelf microcontroller board has been investigated. Three different tests have been performed to ascertain the radiation tolerance of the device from a nuclear decommissioning deployment perspective. The first test analyses the effect of radiation on the output voltage of the on-board voltage regulator during irradiation. The second test evaluated the effect of gamma radiation on the voltage characteristics of analogue and digital inputs and outputs. The final test analyses the functionality of the microcontroller when using an external, shielded voltage regulator instead of the on-board voltage regulator. The results suggest that a series of latch-ups occurs in the microcontroller during irradiation, causing increased current drain which can damage the voltage regulator if it does not have short-circuit protection. The analogue to digital conversion functionality appears to be more sensitive to gamma radiation than digital and analogue output functionality. Using an external, shielded voltage regulator can prove beneficial when used for certain applications. The collected data suggests that detaching the voltage regulator can extend the lifespan of the platform up to approximately 350 Gy.

  • This paper presents a fault-tolerant duplex architecture to build a high-reliability microcontroller using commercial VLSI processors. The architecture supports fail-silence under all single-failure situations and facilitates recovery from transient failures. The paper implements the duplex architecture using two Motorola MC68360 processors and evaluates its fault tolerance in a real application environment.

  • The goal of this paper is to develop an on-board controller for a model helicopter's hovering attitude control, using i8096 one-chip microcontroller. Required controller algorithm is programmed in ASM-96 assembly language and downloaded into an i8096 microcontroller. The performance of hovering flight using this system is verified by experiments with the model helicopter mounted on an instrumented flight stand where 3 potentiometers and an optical proximity sensor measure te attitude and main rotor speed of the helicopter.

  • This paper presents the development of an 8051-compatible microcontroller. The 8051 microcontroller is one the most popular mjcrocontroller used nowadays. All the features of the 8051, including peripherals, are implemented. The output of this work is a synthesizable RTL model that is readily available for a simple control unit in a more complex chip, such as an SOC. We put some important notes relating to the implementation of the 8051's features, including bit addressing, multiplication/division, etc.

  • With the development of semiconductor devices, adaptation of microcontroller prevails in industrial area. But in arc welding industry, there has not been much progress in adoption of microcontroller technology. There fore, this paper shows the application of digital control technology to welding machine. This paper presents the design of microcontroller that is appropriate for three phase $CO^2$ gas metal ar welding machine. By using microcontroller in $CO^2$ gas metal arc welding machine, the overall cost can be reduced compared to analog type one. Also TMS370C850 microprocessor is used as overall micrecontroller for the arc welding machine.
