This paper analyzed the units of capacity and weight in the mathematics textbooks in terms of units, relationship between the units, and the need of standard units. The results of this study showed that there were differences in the representation of the units, the notation of units, the types of units, and the representation of basic amount of units in the mathematics textbooks developed by the 5th, 6th, 7th, 2007 revised, and 2009 revised national mathematics curriculum respectively. The mathematics textbook developed by the 2009 revised mathematics curriculum was found to be generally consistent with the International System of Units (SI). However, the way of defining 1kg through the weight of water was found to be different from the SI. The relationship between the units was consistently described only with a written sentence in the previous mathematics textbooks, but the 2009 revised mathematics textbook presents questions and pictures to foster students' understanding of the relationship. Finally, activities and questions are required for students to recognize the universality and convenience of the standard units through the inconvenience of arbitrary units. Based on these results, this paper provides implications for the development of mathematics textbooks in the units of capacity and weight.

It is useless to say that time is precious and important. So it does when we emphasize the importance of studying the quality and efficiency of time in learning, especially in the learning of Mathematics. In this respect, this study aims to examine the overall structure of time application in the learning of Mathematics, understanding the state and problems of Mathematics education in respect of time application, and finally seeking to find the solutions for the problems. As a first step, the items below were examined for the solutions: First, the eight viewpoints of time in Mathematics education was examined and the meaning of each viewpoint was analysed. Second, the variables resulting from teachers was examined. The preconditions for mathematics education, the attitude towards Mathematics classes, viewpoints of mathematics, the forms of self-expression, the way of utterance can be considered as the variables mentioned above. Third, the variables resulting from students was examined. Learning attitude, specific activity(both meaningful and meaningless), practical uses of teaching tools, game activities, the ways of communication and problem solving can be examined as well. In conclusion, it needs to be stressed that Mathematics class should be the meaningful time for learners, parents, and teachers. The class should guarantee the satisfaction of the learners. In other words, even if physical time is applied the same to everyone, it may differ in degree of quality and value of time application according to the way one spends the time.
The purpose of this study was to investigate mathematics teaching of an elementary school teacher and to understand the meaning of it. This study was a qualitative case study using by analyzing metaphors. The notion of metaphors was newly set up. Traditionally, it had been regarded as a mere tool for better understanding, but it was recognized as the primary source of all of our concept(Sfard, 1998). The subject of this case study was a researcher 'I' and also an elementary school teacher. The three selves named Mee1, Mee2, Mee3, respectively. Mee1 was the 'I' who developed the 4th graders' activities on mathematical patterns in 1996 and wrote mathematics textbook for the 4th graders in 1998-1999. Mee2 was the 'I' who taught mathematical patterns to her students in 2002. Mee3 was the 'I' who criticized the teaching of Mee2 in 2005. [ADVENTURE], [HIDE-AND-SEEK], and [FIREWORKS DISPLAY] were deter-mined to be key metaphors of mathematics teaching. [ADVENTURE] of Mee] was focused on profound understanding of mathematics, [HIDE-AND-SEEK] of Mee2 on construction of mathematics, and [FIRE-WORKS DISPLAY] of Mee3 on making meaning and participating in communities. Studies of metaphors give us the power of understanding mathematics teaching and also generate it. And viewing mathematics teaching via metaphors makes teaching studies open to new ways.
This study is related to reinforcement of the continuity between Nuri curriculum and elementary mathematics curriculum emphasized by 2015 revised national curriculum. Considering that teachers tend to rely much more on textbooks than on curriculum, we analyzed the continuity between math-related activities of Nuri manuals for teachers and the elementary mathematics textbooks and aimed to suggest several ways for securing the continuity based on the result of analyses. To do this, we compared and analyzed Nuri manuals (for ages three to five) for teachers and the first and second grade mathematics textbooks in three aspects: mathematical contents, mathematical terms and symbols, and mathematical processes. We adopted the same analysis framework including continuity, discontinuity and reverse continuity as the study on the continuity between Nuri curriculum and elementary mathematics curriculum. As a result, the results of analyses were revealed in three aspects, respectively. We also discussed the results and suggested some implications for securing the continuity of Nuri manuals for teachers and the elementary mathematics textbooks and for revising curriculum and its materials such as textbooks, workbooks or manuals for teachers.
Unlike ordinary situations, deifinitions play a very important role in mathematics education in schools. Mathematical concepts have been mainly acquired by given definitions. However, according to didactical intentions, mathematics education in schools has employed mathematical concepts and definitions with less strict forms than those in pure mathematics. This research mainly discusses definitions used in geometry (promising) course in primary schools to cope with possibilities of creating misconception due to this didactical transformation. After analyzing problems with potential misconceptions, a survey was conducted $\underline{with}$ 80 primary school teachers in Jeju to investigate their recognitions in meaning of mathematical concepts in geometry and attitudes toward teaching. Most of the respondents answered they taught their students while they knew well about mathematical definitions in geometry but the respondents sometimes confused mathematical concepts of polygons and circles. Also, they were aware of problems in current mathematics textbooks which have explained figures in small topics (classes). Here, several suggestions are proposed as follows from analyzing teachers' recognitions and researches in mathematical viewpoints of definitions (promising) in geometric figures which have been adopted by current mathematics textbooks in primary schools from the seventh educational curriculum. First, when primary school students in their detailed operational stage studying figures, they tend to experience $\underline{a}$ collision between concept images acquired from activities to find out promising and concept images formed through promising. Therefore, a teaching method is required to lessen possibility of misconceptions. That is, there should be a communication method between defining conceptual definitions and Images. Second, we need to consider how geometric figures and their elements in primary school textbooks are connected with fundamental terminologies laying the foundation for geometrical definitions and more logical approaches should be adopted. Third, the consistency with studying geometric figures should be considered. Fourth, sorting activities about problems in coined words related to figures and way and time of their introductions should be emphasized. In primary schools mathematics curriculum, geometry has played a crucial role in increasing mathematical ways of thoughts. Hence, being introduced by parts from viewpoints of relational understanding should be emphasized more in textbooks and teachers should teach students after restructuring this. Mathematics teachers should help their students not only learn conceptual definitions of geometric figures in their courses well but also advance to rigid mathematical definitions. Therefore, that's why mathematics teachers should know meanings of concepts clearly and accurately.
In this paper, we have studied the ways to enhance students' interest in infant math education. Firstly, we explain to the students the relation between the infant math skills and the college math contents. Next, the students practiced the subject about the infant education and the infant math education in real environment. Finally, the results of the practice are analyzed. From this study, we could find that the students got good experiences in infant math education activities and had the chance to change their mind in affirmative way for the infant math education and mathematics itself through performing given projects and investigations.
This Modeling is a cyclical process of creating and modifying models of empirical situations to understand them better and improve decisions. The role of modeling and teaching mathematical modeling in school mathematics has received increasing attention as generating authentic learning and revealing the ways of thinking that produced it. In this paper and interactive lecture session, we will review a subset of the related literature, discuss benefits and challenges in teaching and learning mathematical modeling, and share our attempts to improve traditional textbook problems so that they can become more authentic modeling activities and implications for instruction and assessment as well as for research.
In this paper we study on administration system and student's activities in whole-day club activities. As a result of this study we propose teaching methods, mathematical program for the year, and concreate teaching-learning materials for mathematical circle in whole-day club activities.
This paper analyzes the activities for (fraction) ${\times}$(fraction) in Korean elementary textbooks focusing on the connection between visual models and the algorithm. New Korean textbook attempts a new approach to use length model (as well as rectangular area model) for developing the standard algorithm for the multiplication of fractions, $\frac{a}{b}{\times}\frac{d}{c}=\frac{a{\times}d}{b{\times}c}$. However, activities with visual models in the textbook are not well connected to the algorithm. To bridge the gap between activities with models and the algorithm, distributive strategy should be emphasized. A wealth of experience of solving problems of fraction multiplication using the distributive strategy with visual models can serve as a strong basis for developing the algorithm for the multiplication of fractions.

The purpose of this study was to analyze the effects of using the geometric manipulative for the development of spatial sense and thus to find out a better mathematics teaching and learning method that could help develop students' spatial senses. The two fifth grade classes were randomly chosen as an experimental group (31 students) and a control group (32 students), respectively. This study implemented nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design of quasi-experimental design. The test instrument used in this study was a spatial sense test. The pretest and posttest were implemented with the same instrument. In addition, their classes were observed and videotaped, and the data and their study activities were analyzed. In conclusion, first, the geometric manipulative-aided activities contributes to developing students' spatial senses and their two sub-factors involves perceptual consistency and perception of spatial relationship. Second, the activities of grasping the components of solid figures, sketches and development figures by using the geometric manipulative contribute to boost students' perceptual consistencies and their perceptions of spatial relationship.
