  • The present paper aims to show basic substitution between metaphysics and mathematical abstraction in the philosophy of mathematics. The general troths of metaphysics and the truths particularly relevant to tile nature of mathematical abstraction serve as speculative guides in ordering the content and discussing the nature of the multiple questions which lie between the disputed frontiers of metaphysics and mathematical abstraction.

  • The purpose of this article is to discuss some of the most commonly repeated misconceptions on the history of mathematics described in the secondary school mathematics textbooks, and recommend that we should include mathematical transculture in the secondary school mathematics. School mathematical history described in the texts reflects the axial age, and deals with mathematical transculture from the ancient Greek into Europe excluding the ancient Egypt, Old Babylonia, and Islamic mathematics. We discuss about them through out the secondary school textbooks and give some alternatives for the historical problems.

  • We study the process of horizontal and vertical mathematization on the polyhedron problems through the history of mathematics, computer experiments, problem posing, and justifications. In particular, we explore the Hamilton cycle problem, coloring problem, and folding net construction on the Archimedean and Catalan polyhedrons. In this paper, we present our mathematical results on the polyhedron problems, and we also present some unsolved problems that we found. We found that the history of mathematics and mathematical experiments are very useful in such R&E exploration as polyhedron problem posing and solving project.

  • This study aims to analyze and criticize the definition of the similarity concept in mathematical texts by investigating mathematical history. At first, we analyzed the definition of Pythagoras, the definition of Euclid's ${\ll}$Elements${\gg}$, the definition of Clairaut's ${\ll}$Elements of geometry${\gg}$, the postulate of Brkhoff's postulates for plane geometry, the definition of Birkhoff & Beatly의 ${\ll}$Basic Geometry${\gg}$. the definition of SMSG ${\ll}$Geometry${\gg}$. and the definition of the similarity concept in current mathematics texts. Then we criticized the definition of the similarity concept in current mathematics texts based on mathematical history. We critically discussed three issues and gave three suggestions.

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest the new way about performance assessment through analyzing about what changes are occurred on mathematical attitude and interest by performance assessment as comparing and analyzing the effect on learners' mathematical preferences and learning attitudes through the application of teaching and evaluating model utilizing portfolio products using mathematical history which is one of the various ways of performance assessment. That can satisfy the feature of performance assessment that realizes instruction and assessment simultaneously on the first grade at high school. Also, it can reduce the teachers' works, search the potential ability of students, realize level type curriculum, and draw out the learners' interests because it is a self-leading instruction that consists of student-centered learning. For the purpose of this study, the role of mathematical history and its advantage and the way of utilizing it in mathematical history by referring to sundry records were studied. Evaluation, the way of performance assessment and scoring were also considered to design portfolio teaching and evaluating model using mathematical history. To solve the another tasks for this study, mathematical preference factors and mathematical learning attitude factors are used. Mathematical preference factors divide into confidence, flexibility, will, curiosity, reflection, and value and then make 4 questions each factor. And mathematical learning attitude factors divide into self-esteem, attitude, and learning habit and then make 10 questions each factor. These factors need to be reorganized the materials which are made by Korean Education Development Institute(1992) to be agreed with the purpose of this study.

  • Lee Sang, one of the representative poets of Korean Modern Poetry, wrote poems which present the existentialistic modernism in the 1920s, the chaotic era of Korean history. The characteristics of his works have been shown by various points of view. This paper especially explored the meaning and feature of mathematical expressions by numbers, symbols and other signs of mathematics in Lee's poems. His poems are composed by scientific and abstract rules in mathematics which are expressed as mathematical symbols. The paper focuses on analyzing seven poems which maximizes mathematical expressions among his poetry. This kind of work would be the one of ways to figure out the features of mathematics through literature.

  • At present, most of school mathematical terms in elementary and secondary curriculums of Korea are Sino-Korean words. 1964 Mathematical Editing Material, which aimed to unify mathematical terms into mainly Sino-Korean words, was considered a key factor for this situation. 1964 Editing Material depended heavily on 1956 Mathematical Terminology, which contains a lot of Korean native words and displays the school mathematical terms after 1945. There are many Korean native words in the Second Mathematical Curriculum. This shows that Korean native words of mathematics had been consolidated to some extent at that time. In North Korea, a lot of Korean native words are still used in mathematics. Some Sino-Korean words were recently changed to Korean native words in South Korea. 1956 Mathematical Terminology tells the method to make Korean native words of mathematics and will be an excellent guide for making Korean native words.

  • In this article, the theoretical basis of applying mathematical his tory in lessons is inquired in various educational aspects. It also covers the psychological genetic principle, mainly concerning the childish development and states that it has to be compatible with the historico-genetic principle, which is suggested mainly concerning the development of data. In addition, it evolves the arguments about the meaning of mathematical history in math lessons based on the mentioned aspects besides that in ordinary math lessons. Next, the link between the apply of mathematical history and education for gifted children is examined. Last, cases of mathematic history applied to mathematic education is suggested mainly concerning the understanding of differential concepts.
