Competency Gap in the Labor Market: Evidence from Vietnam

  • The relationship between education and work is of the greatest concern to individuals and society because they are the key drivers of growth and development. In the context of Industry 4.0, labor and educators are facing the challenges of big changes in the workplace. How to prepare undergraduate students for the world of employment has become the most important mission of higher education providers. This paper explored the competency gap in the labor market in Vietnam from the perspective of employees who have been dissatisfied with the current status. First, a qualitative method with the Delphi technique was applied to confirm this consensus in an employees' competency model. Then, the satisfaction level for each competency criterion was explored by applying the advance quantitative method, namely, best non-fuzzy performance approach. Lifelong learning was ranked first, followed by creativity and innovation, foreign languages, expertise and digitalization, adaptability, and finally, organizing and managing ability. Critical thinking and problem-solving were perceived to have the biggest gap. The order of competency satisfaction is useful in explaining the mismatch between education quality and labor market demand. The findings provide valuable guidelines for education managers who seek to bridge the competency gap and improve education quality.

간호대학생의 당뇨병 방문건강관리 관련 지식, 문제해결과정, 자기효능감이 임상수행능력에 미치는 영향 (Knowledge, Problem Solving Process, and Self-Efficacy on Clinical Competency Related to Home Health Nursing Management for Diabetes Mellitus Management by Nursing Students)

  • Purpose: This study aimed to explore the influence of knowledge, problem-solving processes, and self-efficacy on the clinical competency of nursing students in the home health nursing management of diabetes mellitus (DM). Methods: The subjects of this study were 136 nursing students. Data were collected from April 18 to April 29, 2022, and analyzed using the SPSS 23.0 program. Results: The total mean scores of nursing students' knowledge, problem-solving process, self-efficacy, and clinical competency in DM home health nursing management were 71.24, 3.92, 7.47, and 4.09, respectively. Clinical competency was significantly and positively correlated with the problem-solving process (r=.60, p<.001) and self-efficacy (r=.48, p<.001) but not with knowledge (r=.09, p=.311). The problem-solving process was also positively correlated with self-efficacy (r=.41, p<.001). Regression analysis revealed a 41.4% variance in the nursing student's clinical competency with problem-solving process (β=.47, p<.001) and self-efficacy (β=.28, p<.001). Conclusion: The results of this study provide valuable evidence for the development of educational interventions aimed at enhancing the clinical competency of nursing students in relation to home-visit healthcare services for DM management.

교원 대상 학교안전관리 역량 강화 프로그램 개발을 위한 교육 요구분석 (A Needs Assessment for Teachers' School Safety Management Competency Development Program)

  • Purpose: Recently, various accidents and incidents occurred in our school environment, making it necessary to enhance teachers' competency in school safety management. To this end, this study was conducted to analyze the needs of teachers related to school safety management competency development. Methods: For this purpose, the existing teacher's task analysis related to school safety management was revised and surveys were conducted to measure teachers' present level, expectative level and importance of the items based on the task analysis. To analyze the data, Borich Needs Assessment and The Locus for Focus Model were used. Results: In the t-test between the teachers' present level and expectative level about school safety management, all 39 tasks were related (p<.001). The priorities in developing teachers' competency in school safety management were found to be the 6 tasks listed below: 'To deal with each type of accident,' 'To implement CPR and defibrillator,' 'To use fire extinguishers and fire hydrants,' 'To use descending life lines,' 'To give first aid,' and 'To cope with elevator accidents.' Conclusion: By utilizing the results of the teacher's competency and need assesment as components, teachers' training programs can be made more applicable to the school setting. In addition, more experience-based programs should be considered when designing teachers' training programs in order to apply the priority found from the teacher's need assessment.

졸업학년 간호대학생의 자기관리역량과 취업준비행동에 대한 융합연구 : 학업적 자기효능감의 매개효과 (A Convergence Study on Self-management Competency and Employment Preparation Behavior of Senior Nursing Students : Mediating effect of Academic Self-efficacy)

  • 본 연구는 간호대학생의 자기관리역량과 취업준비행동과의 관계에서 학업적 자기효능감의 매개효과를 규명하기 위한 목적으로 시행되었다. 연구대상자는 J도 및 G시에 소재한 3개 대학교 4학년 간호대학생 190명이다. 수집된 자료로 SPSS 26.0 프로그램을 이용하여 기술분석, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation 및 multiple regression을 실시하였다. 본 연구결과, 자기관리역량은 학업적 자기효능감, 취업준비행동과, 학업적 자기효능감은 취업준비행동과 정적상관을 보였다. 학업적 자기효능감은 자기관리역량과 취업준비행동 사이에서 부분매개효과를 나타냈고, 자기관리역량 및 학업적 자기효능감 수준이 높을수록 취업준비행동 수준이 높아지며, 취업준비행동을 설명하는 설명력(R2)은 34%이었다. 따라서 간호대학생의 취업준비행동을 촉진하기 위해서는 자기관리역량 함양 및 이를 통해 학업적 자기효능감을 유도할 수 있는 통합적인 전략 마련이 중요함을 시사한다.

직업능력개발훈련 성과에 영향을 주는 요인에 관한 연구 (A Study on Factors Affecting Vocational Competency Development Training Performance)

  • In the case of incumbent training, unlike training for the unemployed, it is difficult to show the results of training. In this study, factors affecting the performance of vocational competency development training were selected and the main factors were derived. Data were collected through Focus Group Interview(FGI), and regression analysis was performed through factor analysis and reliability analysis. As a result, empathy, training participation type, reliability, working experience, and training operation type were derived as factors affecting job satisfaction. did. Confidence and training participation patterns were derived as factors affecting training satisfaction, and the results showed that the larger the variable, the more positive it was. Therefore, as factors affecting the vocational competency development training performance, there are empathy, training participation type, reliability, work experience, training operation type, certainty, and training participation type. It was confirmed that the results had an effect.

중소기업의 사업환경 인식, 기업 역량, 경영자 역량이 사업중단의도에 미치는 영향: 사업자신감의 매개효과 (Effect of SMEs' Business Environment Perception, Corporate Competency, and Managerial Competency on Intention to Discontinue Business of CEOs: Mediating Effect of Business Confidence)

  • 2020년 초부터 전세계에 확산된 코로나 팬데믹, 4차 산업혁명의 가속화, 미중 갈등과 우크라이나 사태로 촉발된 공급망관리 리스크 등 최근에 체감하는 기업경기는 과거 어느 때보다 심각한 편이다. 중소기업을 창업하여 경영하고 있는 CEO들은 이러한 현실속에서 기업의 지속성에 대하여 어느 때보다 고민하고 있다. 그럼에도 불구하고 중소기업 CEO의 사업중단의도에 영향을 미치는 요인에 대한 실증적인 연구는 거의 없는 편이다. 본 연구에서는 중소기업의 사업환경(주력 사업분야의 경쟁강도, 인력수급 및 관리의 난이도) 인식, 기업 역량(직원역량, 기업의 제품 혹은 서비스 경쟁력, 공급망 및 수요자 관계, 디지털 역량 및 기술전문성), 경영자 역량(직원들과 경영자간 신뢰, 경영자의 관리역량, 경영자의 인지된 건강상태)이 CEO의 사업중단의도에 미치는 영향에 관하여 중소기업 CEO 260명을 대상으로 실증적으로 논의하였다. 연구 결과, 주력사업분야의 경쟁강도, 인력 수급 및 관리의 난이도가 사업중단의도에 정(+)의 영향을 미쳤고, 직원역량, 제품(서비스) 경쟁력, 기업의 디지털 역량 및 기술전문성, CEO의 건강상태가 사업중단의도에 부(-)의 영향을 미쳤다. 이들의 영향 관계는 CEO의 건강상태, 제품(서비스) 경쟁력, 직원역량, 디지털역량 및 기술전문성, 주력사업의 경쟁강도, 인력의 수급 및 관리 난이도 순으로 나타났다. 공급망 및 수요자 관계, 직원과 CEO간 신뢰, 경영자의 관리역량은 사업중단의도에 유의미한 영향을 주지 않는 것으로 분석되었다. 한편, 사업자신감은 주력사업분야의 경쟁강도, 인력 수급 및 관리의 난이도, 제품(서비스) 경쟁력, 디지털 역량 및 기술전문성, CEO와 직원간 신뢰, 경영자의 관리 역량과 사업중단의도 간 매개효과가 있는 것으로 검정되었다. 본 연구는 중소기업 CEO들을 대상으로 사업중단의도에 관한 요인들을 실증적으로 분석하였다는 점에서 학술적인 의의가 있다. 실무적으로는 사업환경 인식, 기업 역량, 경영자 역량, 사업자신감이 사업중단의도에 영향을 미치는 요인임이 밝혀짐에 따라 이 부분을 보강할 수 있는 실행 아이디를 찾을 수 있다면 중소기업이 지속성장하거나 의미있는 출구를 찾는데 도움이 될 수 있을 것이다.

건설사업관리자 역량 모형 개발 및 역량 요구 분석: D사(社) 사례를 중심으로 (Developing Competency Model and Analyzing Competency Needs for Construction Manager in D Co., Ltd.)

  • 이 연구의 목적은 D사(社) 건설사업관리자의 역량 모형을 개발하고, 역량 개발의 요구를 분석하는 것이다. 이를 위해 D사(社)의 우수 건설사업관리자 25명을 대상으로 델파이 방법을 활용하여 역량 모형(안)을 개발하였다. 연구 결과, D사(社) 건설사업관리자 역량 모형은 3개 역량군, 11개 역량, 60개 행동 지표로 구성되었다. 그리고 D사(社) 건설사업관리자 114명을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하여 우수 집단과 평균 집단의 역량 수준을 비교 분석하는 동시적 구성 타당화를 통해 역량 모형을 검증하였다. 또한 각 역량의 필요 수준과 현재 수준을 조사 분석하여 역량 개발의 우선순위를 도출한 결과, 커뮤니케이션, 리스크 관리, 목표 의식, 고객 지향, 프로젝트 관리 역량에 대한 개발 요구도가 높은 것을 확인하였다. 이상의 연구 결과를 바탕으로 건설사업관리자의 역량 기반 인적자원개발에 관한 몇 가지 시사점을 제시하였다.

IT프로젝트 관리자의 리더십 역량 : 팀 내 사회적 자본 관점에서 (Leadership Competencies of IT Project Managers : from Team Social Capital Perspective)

  • This study explores the applicability of social capital theory in IT project management. Specifically, an empirical model is developed using different types of leadership competencies (emotional, cognitive, and social) as independent constructs impacting IT project performance. Social capital shared among team members are measured and placed as a mediating construct between leadership competencies and performance. Using PLS analysis of 120 data points collected through a survey of IT project participants in two large electronic manufacturers, direct and indirect impacts of leadership competencies are explicated. Research results reveal that emotional leadership competency seems to directly influence the project performance but not through team social capital, while social leadership competency seems to indirectly influence the project performance through team social capital but not directly onto the project performance. Cognitive leadership competency is the only leadership competency that maintains direct and indirect influence on project performance. Total effect of cognitive competency on project performance is almost two times larger than the total effect of emotional leadership competency and six times larger than the total effect of social leadership competency. Implications of findings are discussed at the end, and further studies are suggested.

간호학생의 임상실습 교육을 위한 임상지도자 활용 모델 적용 효과에 관한 연구 (The effect of preceptorship on clinical education of nursing students)

  • This study examined effect of preceptorship on clinical education of 39 senior nursing students. Competency scores and satisfaction with preceptors scores were investigated. Competency scores of the students before the clinical education (pre-competency scores) were compared with the competency scores after the clinical education (post-competency scores), and satisfactory scores were also examined after the clinical education. Study results showed that the total post-competency scores were increased compared to the total pre-competency scores, and this increment was statistically significant. However, analyzing sub-domains of the competency scores indicated only the nursing-skill domain scores were increased while the scores of interpersonal domain and management domain were increased but statistically insignificant. Satisfaction with preceptors scores were also more than the average scores reflecting the students were satisfied with their preceptors generally. The students, However, grade low in the preceptors' intellectual ability while their professional and interpersonal ability were rather satisfied. This study indicated preceptors should make more efforts to teach interpersonal and management skill and increase their intellectual ability. This study recommended a systematic reward system for the preceptors to increase the motivation to teach students is needed.

지역사회리더 리더십역량의 중요-성취도 분석 (An Importance-Performance Analysis(IPA) on the Leadership Competency of Rural Community Leaders)

  • The purposes of this study were to identify leadership competences of rural leaders and to analyze leadership competency of leaders. The study carried out by questionnaire and focus group interview on expert panels. To analyze leadership competency, the data was collected from 273 rural leaders by stratified random sampling. SPSSWIN/ver10 program was used for analyzing data with t-test and IPA method. The study suggests twenty low types of leadership competences which were information, vision, decision making, motivation communication, education residents, managing residents, loaming, flexibility, problem solving, presentation program management, customer orientation service knowledge, making relationship, creative idea, business understanding, brand development, conflict resolution negotiation, assessment, business management, coaching and feed back. Whereas leaders with middle school educational career required developing program management, maintaining achievement and benchmarking, leaders with high school were morel likely to develope self-learning, to benchmark their knowhow and brand development competency. Whereas leader with less low years experiences as leader have been considered as developing coaching/feedback brand development and program development, leaders with more five years as leader should consider developing benchmarking, resident education, and brand development. The study suggests that the extension agents on public should develop leadership program according to the competency differences of leaders.
