  • The transport market has continued to change to provide services for each cargo. Currently, tank containers are widely used for the transport of liquids, and the tank container transportation market is continuously growing. Accordingly, the demand for handling for tank containers is also increasing. The purpose of this study is to suggest the improvement of transportation process and management method based on the case analysis of the current tank container transportation market. Therefore, this is paper suggests that an integrated system is needed to eliminate the period of information disconnection, secure information continuity, and improve the efficiency of managing dangerous goods.

A Study on the Model of the Container Transport Vehicle with High Productivity (고생산성 컨테이너 이송차량 모델 연구)

  • The objective of this study is to develop the alternative model of the container transport vehicle of high productivity for the purpose of the increase of terminal productivity. In order to develop the alternatives, we analyze the technical specification of existing transport vehicles such as YT(Yard Tractor), S/C(Straddle Carrier), SHC(Shuttle Carrier), and AGV(Automated Guided Vehicle) and investigate the operation and performance of transport vehicles to classify the technical generation. The development alternative of transport vehicle presented in this study will usefully be apply to advanced container terminal with higher productivity in near future.

Estimation of Freight Trip Generation Rates based on Commodity Flow Survey in Korea

  • In Korea, almost 700 industrial parks are under operation. Generally, industrial parks consist of national industrial parks and local industrial parks which are managed by a central government and by local governments respectively. The developing countries such as Korea, China and Vietnam etc. have constructed many industrial parks, which result in the change of land use pattern and also affect future trip demands. Therefore, in estimating traffic demands, it is very important to consider the industrial park development. This study aims to improve the methodology in estimating a freight trip generation rate with the data based on a nationwide commodity freight survey. The result showed that it is desirable to apply freight trip generation rate by the industry sector in estimating freight trip generations and using the production area of firm as an indicator. Specially, the reliability of the rates through a survey could be made sure because a sample rate based on firms in industrial parks was over 25% and the response rate was over 67%. The sample rate and response rate are very superior as compared to surveys conducted in many other countries. Because industrial parks have significant effects on forecasting transportation demand in pre-feasibility studies of transport and logistics projects, it is expected that the accuracy of freight trip demands would be improved through the results of this study.

  • This study was an exploratory research to classify the types of green fashion marketing of the fashion companies in South Korea and analyse the present cases of each type. To analyse the current cases of green fashion marketing strategies, we researched all sorts of newspapers, magazines, publications of fashion companies, and web sites from 2008 to 2009. As a result, we categorized 5 types of green fashion marketing as follows ; eco-friendly fabrics (natural fabrics, recycled fabrics, biodegradable fabrics), re-use or re-form(reuse after cleaning and/or repairing and reformation through transformation and combination of raw materials), green certifications(ISO 14001, GOTS, OES, etc.), eco-friendly management and operation, and green marketing promotions. Based on the results, we proposed the green marketing strategies for fashion companies to progress toward the proper direction of green marketing. First of all, companies should escape from the narrow view point limited to the product itself. Then they have to focus on developing and execution of sustainable merchandising, manufacturing, logistics, and waste strategies.

  • The U.S. Army is capable and ready to deploy full-spectrum armed forces anywhere in the world as we have seen in Iraq and Afghanistan. This commitment is within the realm of logistics support that the readiness to support MRE(Meal Ready to Eat), according to the environment where the operation is on going. ROKA(Republic Of Korea Army) proceeds with the program to develop and reserve various MRE under the assumption of distinctive warfare operating environment. This study investigates to determine the amount of MRE consumption within various operating environment and details are as follows. First we ponder the concept of MRE and identified problems of the existing program. Second we also establish feeding rations by the types of MRE that is the base for calculation. Third we introduce MRE consumption algorithm and formula. Fourth and last we have applied our model to the program and analyzed the results. The present state of the estimation didn't reflect various warfare operating environment. Therefore we simulates theater wargame model to determine the consumption under various warfare operating environment. The result of this study is anticipated to contribute largely to the force enhancement as it mirrors of every circumstances of operating environment.

Study on Simulation for Buffer Space Analysis of Container Crane with Dual Trolley (듀얼 트롤리형 컨테이너 크레인 버퍼공간 분석을 위한 시뮬레이션 연구)

  • Container crane is main equipment in container terminals and it determines the productivity and the efficiency of container terminals. The typical type of container cranes has the single trolley and one among advanced types of them has the dual trolley. The objective of this paper is to analyze the buffer size of a container crane with the dual trolley in container terminals. We present a simulation model for analysing the buffer space of a container crane with the dual trolley. The buffer space is located between main trolley in sea-side and second trolley in yard-side. We performs various simulation experiments and analyze the buffer size to estimate the required productivity.

  • Due to the international economic downturn and the increasing competition, container terminals have been trying to achieve cost effectiveness and high service levels. Shipping companies want to get better services from container terminals but container terminals only have limited space and equipment. Frequently, too many external trucks come to the terminal at the same time, and create bottle necks at the terminals. Ouside the container terminals traffic jams occur as well. As a result, stakeholders need a vehicle booking system. By VBS, container terminals can plan efficiently in advance to avoid work delay and the truck drivers can finish their jobs quickly. This paper aims to search efficient models for the container terminals by using VBS.

  • Recently, as warehouses became automated, workers are trying to maximize storage efficiency as well as work efficiency. So, using mobile-rack which has wheels or rails at the bottom and minimizes dead space by removing extra passages between racks is rapidly rising as a notable technology. So, this paper seeks how to manage optimally cryogenic warehouse using mobile-rack. At first, routes of mobile-rack and operation vehicle will be synchronized and storage location will be decided with seasonal demand. After that, it will be simulated considering additional factors.

Determining Values of Design Parameters for a Rail Transportation Terminal in a Container Port (컨테이너 항만의 철도 운송 터미널 설계변수 결정)

  • Rail transportation terminals play an important role in inland transportation systems, because the operation productivity in the terminals significantly influences the efficiency of the whole transportation systems. This paper addresses a design method of a real rail terminal that satisfies a pre-specified throughput capacity. In order to construct high performance rail terminal, it is shown how design parameters can be estimated systematically. Examples of the design parameters are the number of transshipment tracks, the number of rail cranes, and the number of internal trucks. These design parameters are estimated by using simple equations and the validity of the values of these parameters are tested by using simulation. Furthermore, some iterative correction procedure, which uses the simulation technique and the equations alternately, are proposed.
