There are very few numbers of 115K FPP (Fixed Pitch Propulsion) Tankers for the Baltic ice class IA because the minimum power requirement of FMA (Finish- Swedish Maritime Association) needs quite large engine power and the 40 m Beam is out of calculation range of FMA minimum power requirements. The shipyard has no choice except to increase the engine power to satisfy FMA minimum power requirement Rule. And the operation cost, efficiency of hullform and its building cost are not good from the ship owners' point of view To solve this problem, the experience of ice breaking tanker development and the ice tank test results were adopted. The main idea to reduce the ice resistance is by reducing waterline angle at design load waterline. The reason behind the main idea is to reduce the ice-clearing force. Two hull forms were developed to satisfy Baltic Ice class IA. Two ice tank tests and one towing tank test was performed at MARC (Kvaener-Masa Arctic Research Center) and SSMB (Samsung Ship Model Basin) facilities, respectively. The purpose of these tests was to verify the performance in ice and open water respectively The hull form 2 shows less speed loss compared to Hull form 1 in open water operation but hull form 2 shows very good ice clearing ability. finally the Hull Form 2 satisfying Baltic ice class IA. The merit of this hull form is to use the same engine capacity and no major design changes in hull form and other related designs But the hull structure has to be changed according to the ice class grade. The difference in two hull form development methods, ice model test methods and analysis methods of ice model test will be described in this paper.
Ultra thin TiN films (50∼700nm thickness) were deposited on AISI 304 stainless steel substrates using a reactive DC magnetron sputtering deposition process to investigate their wear and friction properties. Dry sliding wear tests of the films were carried out against hardened steel and alumina counterparts using a pin-on-disk type wear tester at room temperature. Variation of friction coefficient was measured as a function of film thickness, load, sliding speed and roughness of the substrate. Worn surfaces of the film were examined by a scanning electron microscope. Wear resistance of the TiN film increased with the increase of the film thickness. The TiN film showed relatively high wear resistance in spite of its ultra thin thickness when it is mated by the steel counterpart, while it showed poor wear resistance with the alumina counterpart. The good wear resistance with the steel counterpart was explained by the formation of oxide layers on the film surface and sound interface character between the ultra thin film and the substrate.
Esthetic brackets which resemble the color of natural teeth have been widely used. But the frictional resistance of ceramic brackets, a typical esthetic bracket, is greater than that of metal brackets. The purpose of this study was to measure the frictional resistance of the new calcium phosphate brackets (CPB) which were recently developed and to evaluate its clinical usability by comparing the frictional differences of CPB with metal brackets and metal slot inserted ceramic brackets. Methods: Experimental groups were CPB (Hyaline II, Tomy, Tokyo, Japan), metal bracket (Kosaka, Tomy, Tokyo, Japan) and metal slot inserted ceramic bracket (Clarity, 3M Unitek, Monrovia, CA, USA). All of the brackets had 0.022-inch slot sizes. The brackets were tested with $0.019\;{\times}\;0.025$ inch stainless steel wire (3M Unitek, Monrovia, CA, USA). A biologic model was used to simulate the situation which would occur during orthodontic treatment with fixed appliances. Retraction force was applied at a speed of 5 mm/min for 30 seconds. The frictional resistance was measured on a universal testing machine (Instron 4467, Instron, Norwood, MA, USA). Results: CPB showed significantly higher friction than metal brackets (p < 0.05) and lower friction than metal slot inserted ceramic brackets (p < 0.01). Conclusions: CPB can be considered to be a useful orthodontic esthetic bracket with respect to frictional resistance, as its friction is remarkably lower than that of metal slot inserted ceramic brackets.

Statement of problem. Porcelain repair mainly involves replacement with composite resin, but the bond strength between composite resin and all-ceramic coping materials has not been studies extensively. Purpose. The objective of this study was to investigate the influence of composite resin and ceramic etching pattern on shear bond strength of Empress2 ceramic and observe the change of microstructure of ceramic according to etching methods. Material and methods. Eighty-five cylinder shape ceramic specimens (diameter 5mm, IPS Empress 2 core materials) embeded by acrylic resin were used for this study. The ceramic were specimens divided into sixteen experimental groups with 5 specimens in each group and were etched with phosphoric acid(37%, 65%) & hydrofluoric acid (4%, 9%) according to different etching times(30s, 60s, 120s 180s). All etched ceramic surfaces were examined morphologically using SEM(scanning electron microscopy). Etched surfaces of ceramic specimens were coated with silane (Monobond-S) & adhesive(Heliobond) and built up composite resin using Teflon mold. Accomplished specimens were tested under shear loading until fracture on universal testing machine at a crosshead speed 1mm/min; the maximum load at fracture(kg) was recorded. Shear bond strength data were analyzed with one way ANOVA and Duncan tests.(P<.05) Results. Maximum shear bond strength was $30.07{\pm}2.41(kg)$ when the ceramic was etched with 4% hydrofluoric acid at 120s. No significant difference was found between phosphoric etchant group and control group with respect to shear bond strength. Conclusion. Empress 2 ceramic surface was not etched by phosphoric acid, but etched by hydrofluoric acid.

Recently, modular construction method has been widely applied to projects with repetitive processes including dormitory, the residential facility, and the hotel construction due to reduced labor input and shortened construction schedule. Generally, about 40% of total on-site construction cost excluding unit installation cost, is put on exterior finishing work, and thus management of finishing work is deemed important in maintaining the targeted schedule and cost. Since limited equipment is shared so that subsequent activities are not affected while carrying out on-site installation and finishing work, lifting plan becomes more important for modular projects with greater portion of finishing work load. In this regard, tower crane operation plan may take the form of a single cycle or multiple cycles in which equipment efficiency can be affected. However, difficulties exist in evaluating alternatives to tower crane operation plans supporting unit installation and finishing work. Therefore, this study aims to evaluate the alternative of tower crane operation method according to the cyclic period setting in modular building site to determine the effect on T/C uptime and process by parameterizing lifting time for unit and exterior finishing material, lift cycle for unit and exterior finishing material and time required for finishing work. Accordingly, this study develops a simulation model that can increase the tower crane efficiency by controlling the work speed. An academic contribution of this study is to suggest a resource leveling method applying the concept of lifting cycle, and further is expected to be managerially used as a basis for an alternative evaluation of equipment plan.
The purpose of this study was to compare the retention of complete cast crown over amalgam ores, composite resin cores, and cast gold cores when cemented with three different luting agents. Eighteen core specimens each of amalgam(Bestaloy, Dong Myung, Seoul, Korea), composite resin (Z100, 3M Dental product, st. Paul, Minn) and type IV gold alloy (Ba-4, Heesung Engelhard Corp., Korea) were made in a customized milling stainless steel die. A wax pattern with a loop attached to occlusal surface was made for each core and a type II gold alloy casting was fabricated. The castings which had clinically acceptable marginal fit were used as test samples. The following luting cements were used to cement cast crowns on each core material : (1) zinc phosphate cement (Confi-dental Products Co., USA) (2) glass-ionomer cement (Fuji Plus, GC Industrial Corp., Tokyo, Japan) (3) resin cement (Panavia 21, Kuraray Co., USA). All cements were mixed according to manufacturers' instructions. A static load of 5kg was then applied for 10 minutes on the crowns. All specimens were stored in saline solution for 24 hours at $37^{\circ}C$ and thermocycled for 500 cycles. After storage and cycling, the tensile bond strengths were measured by using a universal testing machine (Instron Corp., Canton, Mass.) at a crosshead speed of 0.5mm/min. The results were as follows 1. The retentive strength of resin cement was the highest of alt three types of cement for resin core (p<0.05). 2. There was no statistical difference among the retentive strengths of three cements for amalgam core (p>0.05). 3. The retentive strength of resin cement was higher than that of zinc phosphate for cast core, but there was no difference between the retentive strength of glass ionomer cement and those of rein and zinc phosphate cement. 4. The retentive strength of the zinc phosphate cement for amalgam core was the highest of all type of cores.
STATEMENT OF PROBLEM. Zirconia-based restorations have the common technical complication of delamination, or porcelain chipping, from the zirconia core. Thus the shear bond strength between the zirconia core and the veneering porcelain requires investigation in order to facilitate the material's clinical use. PURPOSE. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the bonding strength of the porcelain veneer to the zirconia core and to other various metal alloys (high noble metal alloy and base metal alloy). MATERIAL AND METHODS. 15 rectangular ($4\times4\times9mm$) specimens each of zirconia (Cercon), base metal alloy (Tillite), high noble metal alloy (Degudent H) were fabricated for the shear bond strength test. The veneering porcelain recommended by the manufacturer for each type of material was fired to the core in thickness of 3mm. After firing, the specimens were embedded in the PTFE mold, placed on a mounting jig, and subjected to shear force in a universal testing machine. Load was applied at a crosshead speed of 0.5mm/min until fracture. The average shear strength (MPa) was analyzed with the oneway ANOVA and the Tukey's test ($\alpha$= .05). The fractured specimens were examined using SEM and EDX to determine the failure pattern. RESULTS. The mean shear strength ($\pm\;SD$) in MPa was 25.43 ($\pm\;3.12$) in the zirconia group, 35.87 ($\pm\;4.23$) in the base metal group, 38.00 ($\pm\;5.23$) in the high noble metal group. The ANOVA showed a significant difference among groups, and the Tukey' s test presented a significant difference between the zirconia group and the metal group. Microscopic examination showed that the failure primarily occurred near the interface with the residual veneering porcelain remaining on the core. CONCLUSION. There was a significant difference between the metal ceramic and zirconia ceramic group in shear bond strength. There was no significant difference between the base metal alloy and the high noble metal alloy.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to compare self-drilling orthodontic mini-implants of different surfaces, namely, machined (untreated), etched (acid-etched), RBM (treated with resorbable blasting media) and hybrid (RBM + machined), with respect to the following criteria: physical appearance of the surface, measurement of surface roughness, and insertion pattern. Methods: Self-drilling orthodontic mini-implants (Osstem implant, Seoul, Korea) with the abovementioned surfaces were obtained. Surface roughness was measured by using a scanning electron microscope and surface-roughness-testing machine, and torque patterns and vertical loadings were measured during continuous insertion of mini-implants into artificial bone (polyurethane foam) by using a torque tester of the driving-motor type (speed, 12 rpm). Results: The mini-implants with the RBM, hybrid, and acid-etched surfaces had slightly increased maximum insertion torque at the final stage ($p$ < 0.05). Implants with the RBM surface had the highest vertical load for insertion ($p$ < 0.05). Testing for surface roughness revealed that the implants with the RBM and hybrid surfaces had higher Ra values than the others ($p$ < 0.05). Scanning electron microscopy showed that the implants with the RBM surface had the roughest surface. Conclusions: Surface-treated, self-drilling orthodontic mini-implants may be clinically acceptable, if controlled appropriately.
Nuclear energy is expected to meet the growing energy demand while avoiding CO2 emission. However, the problem of accumulating spent fuel from current nuclear power plants which is mainly composed of uranium oxides should be addressed. One of the most practical solutions is to reduce the spent oxide fuel and recycle it. Next-generation fuel cycles demand innovative features such as a reduction of the environmental load, improved safety, efficient recycling of resources, and feasible economics. Pyroprocessing based on molten salt electrolysis is one of the key technologies for reducing the amount of spent nuclear fuel and destroying toxic waste products, such as the long-life fission products. The oxide reduction process based on the electrochemical reduction in a LiCl-$Li_2O$ electrolyte has been developed for the volume reduction of PWR (Pressurized Water Reactor) spent fuels and for providing metal feeds for the electrorefining process. To speed up the electrochemical reduction process, the influences of the feed form for the cathode and the type of anode shroud on the reduction rate were investigated.
Purpose : The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of the output energy(voltage) of laser welding on the strength and properties of joint of cast titanium(CP Gr II) and titanium alloy(Ti-6Al-4V). Material and method : Cast titanium and its alloy rods(ISO6871) were prepared and perpendicularly cut at the center of the rod. After the cut halves were fixed in a jig, and the joints welded with a laser-welding machine at several levels of output voltage of $200V{\sim}280V$. Uncut specimens served as the non-welded control specimens The pulse duration and pulse spot size employed in this study were 10ms and 1.0mm respectively. Tensile testing was conducted at a crosshead speed of 0.5mm/min. The ultimate tensile strength(MPa) was recorded, and the data (n=6) were statistically analyzed by one-way analysis of variance(ANOVA) and Scheffe's test at ${\alpha}$=0.05. The fracture surface of specimens investigated by scanning electron microscope (SEM). Vickers microhardness was measured under 500g load of 15seconds with the optimal condition of output voltage 280V. Results : The results of this study were obtained as follows, 1. When the pulse duration and spot size were fixed at 10ms and 1.0mm respectively, increasing the output energy(voltage) increased UTS values and penetration depth of laser welded to titanium and titanium alloy. 2. For the commercial titanium grade II, ultimate tensile strength(665.3MPa) of the specimens laser-welded at voltage of 280V were not statistically(p>0.05) different from the non-welded control specimens (680.2MPa). 3. For the titanium alloy(Ti-6Al-4V), ultimate tensile strength(988.3MPa) of the specimens laser-welded at voltage of 280V were statistically(p<0.05) different from the non-welded control specimens (665.0MPa). 4. The commercial titanium grade II and titanium alloy(Ti-6Al-4V) were Vickers microhardness values were increased in the fusion zone and there were no significant differences in base metal, heat-affected zone.
