Purpose - This paper aims to obtain a theoretical understanding for the relationship among the elderly's leisure activity, social support, life satisfaction and mental loneliness in their life. This paper has the purpose to draw policy implications by the course of research and study as well as to find alternatives in enhancing the elderly's psychological well-being in a practical dimension. Research design, data, and methodology - Data has been collected from 380 elderly persons participating in leisure activities in 10 senior welfare service centers located in the Seoul area. A structured questionnaire sheet was used, and as the main analysis method for hypothesis verification, the hierarchical regression method was used. Results - Social support is moderating factor for the relationships among the productive leisure activity, life satisfaction and mental loneliness, but does not play the moderating role in the relationships such as consumptive leisure activity, life satisfaction and mental loneliness. Conclusions - It is necessary to make efforts to provide policies for promoting and expanding the elderly's participation especially in productive leisure activity. And also, an institutional support should be provided for maintaining and expanding a stable social relationship network for the elderly's participation.
This study examined the relations of educational level and life-style behaviors to the obesity. A total of 507 male adults aged 30 - 50 years completed the self-reported questionnaires. Educational level was used for measuring socioeconomic status. Activity at work, leisure-time activity and TV watching were measured for life-style behaviors related to physical activity, and some demographic and family history of disease as well. Subjects were categorized as obese when BMI was equal to or over 25kg/$m^2$, in which 19.7% resulted obesity. Using multivariate logistic regression, the association between the measured factors and obesity was assessed. The odds ratios (OR) for risk of obesity did not differ with either age or monthly income. Subjects who completed high school (OR = 0.36; 95% CI = 0.20 - 0.66) or university (OR = 0.34; 95% CI = 0.16 - 0.71) had lower risk of obesity than those with education below middle school. Those with moderate activity level at work (OR = 0.41; 95% CI = 0.24 - 0.72) showed lower risk of obesity than in inactive ones. The subjects watching TV more than 3.5 hr/day presented higher risk of obesity (OR = 2.46; 95% CI = 1.28 - 4.74), compared with those watching TV less than 1.5 hr/day. The higher risk of obesity observed in high level of leisure time activity than in low one was considered due to that physical activity at work and leisure-time might counteract each other. Educational level and activity at work or leisure-time activity or TV watching were jointed and categorized, and then OR for obesity was estimated. The extent of obesity risk at a given level of each work activity or leisure-time activity or TV watching was different depending the educational level, which was significantly high when educational level was below middle school. Educational difference had no effect on activity level at work. However, higher educational attainment increased the leisure activity and reduced TV watching (p<0.05), indicating that low education tended to contribute to more sedentary life-style. The findings of this study is concluded that low education was related to obesity in adult males, and its relation can partly be explained through acquiring inactive life-style behaviors. Individuals with low education might be more susceptible to the risk factors of obesity.

It is needed to connect the curriculum of leisure use with community resources in order to allow students with developmental disability in a transition period to recover composure themselves through the curriculum of leisure use, improve their skills to enjoy, and apply their independent ability to utilize the actual leisure resources in a community through community programs. To realize this, it is necessary to secure recognition of leisure use from teachers instructing leisure use as a curriculum and examine points to be improved and importance mentioned about community-based leisure activity participation. The latest research on lifelong planning extends leisure activity from existing elements and implies the necessity of preparation in holistic aspects. As the crucial resources of leisure activity for students with developmental disability, this author focuses on the importance of leisure activities in schools and in communities and provides supportive measures to elevate accessibility to leisure activity.
The purpose of this study is to understand and investigate the process of making negotiation strategy to do leisure activity with overcoming leisure constraints which highschool students participating in their club activity meet. For this study, students who have at least one-year career for their club activity -more than two times a week and two hours at a time -were selected. Survey through in-depth interview, non-participating observation and field note were conducted. The results are as follow. Firstly, the fascination for club activity was the important factor for overcoming leisure constraints. Secondly, leisure constraints never let students stop doing their activity. Thirdly, the subjects of this study practiced negotiation strategies and came to have self-achievement and self-esteem, improving their relationships effectively. Finally, it was found out that they were creating their own club culture with continuous leisure constraints negotiation. The results of this study present the case and the method of continuous students' participation in their leisure and are able to help them to build up their positive leisure experiences.
The study is intended to suggest the differentiated and subdivided indexes of the leisure fashion market and to provide the marketing strategy establishment and in-depth understanding of leisure fashion business by looking into the correlation between and among fashion involvement, clothing selection criteria and fashion information sources. This study was conducted by the questionnaire response method and the results were derived by using the SPSS 16.0 statistics program. The results of the study were as follows; 1) As a result of researching the difference between the leisure activities consumer groups and fashion involvement, there were significant differences in emotional and cognitive involvement. In the tour activity group and social activity group, emotional involvement was found to be higher than the cognitive experience while in the hobby and sports activity group, both involvements were equally as high. 2) As a result of researching the difference between the leisure activities groups and clothing selection criteria, it was found that the intrinsic and extrinsic criteria were high in the hobby and sports activity group and that the intrinsic criteria was high in the tour activity group and social activity group. 3) In the difference between the leisure activity groups and fashion information sources, it was found that media source, observation source and experience/personal source were high in the hobby and sports activity group. In addition, the experience and personal source were high in the social activity group. 4) In the difference between and among fashion involvement, clothing selection criteria and fashion information sources, it was found that the emotional involvement, intrinsic criteria and observation source were higher in the group of females than males. 5) In the difference between and among fashion involvement, clothing selection criteria and fashion information sources depending on the ages of leisure activities consumers, it was found that the emotional involvement and observation source were high in the group of 20-24 yrs old consumers and that the emotional involvement, intrinsic criteria and observation source were high in the group of 25-29 yrs old consumers. Also, in the group of 30-34 yrs old consumers, the emotional involvement, observation source and experience/personal source were high.
We examined the relationship between the basic characteristics and types of leisure activities according to blood types. It was based on questionnaires answered by 441 collegians in public health departments and 282 in non-public health departments in Daegu Health College in March, 2005. The frequency of leisure activity of once or twice a week or less during weekdays was the most common.: The most common frequencies for all blood types were between 1 and 2 hours on weekdays and between 3 and 5 hours on the weekends or holidays. As far as the type of leisure activities during the weekdays was concerned, in the case of public health departments, blood type A was interested in computer games and then watching TV, blood type B was attracted to watching TV and listening to music, blood type AB was into watching TV, computer games, and listening to music, and blood type O was keen on watching TV and computer games in that order. The type of leisure activity according to blood types in public health departments was shown to be significantly different (p<0.05). The type of future leisure activity was shown to be significantly different between public health departments and non-public health departments (p<0.05). The type of present leisure activity preferred by collegians, according to the study, was entertainment such as computer games for most blood types. The type of future leisure activities was related to the field of tourism and sports. The collegians need to have more advanced and positive leisure activities.
The purpose of this study is to analyze the correlation between cognition, depression and leisure activity in elderly people above 65 years of age, and to improve their health and quality of life by providing baseline data for occupational therapy intervention. This investigation was performed on 118 elderly people above 65 years of age who lived in local community and two senior welfare centers. In order to collect the data, we used MMSE-K, KDS, Questionnaire for leisure activity. The depression of elderly people was negatively correlated with their cognition(p<.01) and leisure activity(p<.001), whereas cognition was positively correlated with their leisure activity(p<.01). In conclusion, the correlation between cognition, depression and leisure activity of elderly people appeared statistically significant. Therefore, leisure activity program should be designed through additional research and effectively provided in nursing home and community senior welfare center to prevent depression increase and cognitive decline.

This study analyzed the relationships between positive attitude, leisure attitude, and leisure satisfaction among university students participating in a leisure activity support education program using the metaverse. The results are as follows. First, positive attitude was found to have a significant impact on leisure attitude. Perspective diversification influenced the cognitive and emotional factors of leisure attitude, self-acceptance influenced the emotional factor, and social adaptation influenced both the cognitive and emotional factors. Second, leisure attitude was found to have a significant impact on leisure satisfaction. Cognitive and emotional attitudes influenced all factors of leisure satisfaction, while behavioral attitude primarily influenced the relaxation factor. Third, positive attitude was found to have a significant impact on psychological, social, relaxation, and physiological factors of leisure satisfaction. Perspective diversification and self-acceptance played important roles, while social adaptation influenced all factors of leisure satisfaction. These findings provide important implications for the curriculum design of leisure activity support education programs using the metaverse for university students, focusing on enhancing positive attitude. The metaverse environment offers experiences similar to real-life interactions, which can contribute to enhancing participants' positive attitude and improving their leisure satisfaction. Program design should include elements that enhance participants' self-acceptance and social adaptation abilities, as well as focus on improving self-regulation skills. Through this, university students can enrich their leisure experiences, ultimately contributing to improving their overall quality of life.
This study investigates the patterns of leisure in Korea and the effects of social class on the objective and subjective dimension of leisure activities and life satisfaction. A data set of 1376 Korean men and women over 18 years old is analyzed to yield five main results. First, Korean prefers domestic entertainment to outdoor activities as is exemplified by domestic audio-visual entertainment(TV/DVD/VCR) which ranks the highest in the favored leisure activity. Leisure activities are divided into four types; "activity-based", "relationship-based", "alcohol-based", "relaxation". Second, the function of leisure activity is to strengthen relationships. The main purpose of leisure activity is to relax and revitalize, while creating prospective social network ranks next to relax. But the effect of leisure time is often compromised by recurring thoughts related to work. Third, respondents with high educational and economic backgrounds are more likely to engage in "relationship-based," "activity-based", "alcohol-based" leisure type. However, such factors do not influence on "relaxation" type of leisure. While students and housewives rank highest in number of respondents, respondents with managerial/professional or white-collar/semi-professional occupations enjoy more diverse activities. Fourth, the effort to discern the significance of social class with respect to the leisure-activity-index revealed followings; the index scores elevate with higher education, younger age and higher income. Fifth, leisure-activity-index is the most important variable predicting leisure satisfaction. Leisure satisfaction is influenced by gender, age, income and occupation. The younger the age and higher the income, the higher it is the leisure satisfaction. Men are more satisfied with leisure activities than women. Students experience the highest satisfaction with leisure activities while service/sales workers, industrial/technical/blue-collar workers shows the least satisfaction. Also, the number of family members decreases significantly the leisure satisfaction. While "activity-based" leisure induces the highest satisfaction, "alcohol-based" leisure produces the least satisfaction. The frequency and diversity of leisure activities, and "activity-based" leisure incur the most positive effects on the life satisfaction.

Leisure activity characteristics are related to an individual's stress management as well as quality of life. This study analyzed the relationship between leisure activity characteristics, stress, and quality of life of healing tourists, and analyzed the moderating effect of involvement on rural healing tourism. For this purpose, this study analyzed 658 cases who experienced rural healing tourism. Among the characteristics of leisure activities, the conflict between work and leisure had a positive (+) effect on stress, and that stress had a negative (+) effect on the quality of life. Among the characteristics of leisure activities, social support was found to have a positive (+) effect on the quality of life. In the relationship between stress and quality of life, involvement on rural healing tourism was found to have a moderating effect. The results of this study indicate the importance of social support for work-life balance and leisure, suggesting that daily recovery through rural healing tourism has a positive effect on personal stress management as well as quality of life.
