The Development of Convergence Teaching-Learning Program for the Clothing Section of Home Economic Focused on Up-cycling (업사이클링 주제의 가정과 의생활 영역 융합교육 프로그램 개발)

  • The purpose of this study was to develop an educational program designed to allow students to experience 'up-cycling' first-hand during class and understand its significance by helping them improving their practical problem-solving abilities. Teachers of home economics, Korean, and social studies to third grade middle schooler were asked to analyze the curriculums of their subjects. The analysis results were then used to identify common elements among the units, reconstruct the curriculums, and develop an integrated lesson program to offer integrated activities. Based on these, a lesson program was developed to make an eco-bag and running shoes under the theme of 'up-cycling' in the unit of 'environmentally-friendly clothing and mending of clothes' in the home economics subject. The results were as follows: First, a topical fusion lesson program was developed to integrate three subjects together. The development process involved the integration of the topic of up-cycling, a program model for integrated lessons, and a teaching and learning process plan for topical integrated education. Secondly, a lesson program for home economics was developed that was applicable to actual home economics lessons based on the topical integrated lesson program. The lesson domains were divided into large, medium, and small to create a ten-lesson teaching and learning process plan needed for the lessons, teaching materials that could be put to actual uses in lessons, and activity and evaluation logs for learners.

Ginsenoside Rg3 Alleviates Lipopolysaccharide-Induced Learning and Memory Impairments by Anti-Inflammatory Activity in Rats

  • The purpose of this study was to examine whether ginsenoside Rg3 (GRg3) could improve learning and memory impairments and inflammatory reactions induced by injecting lipopolysaccharide (LPS) into the brains of rats. The effects of GRg3 on proinflammatory mediators in the hippocampus and the underlying mechanisms of these effects were also investigated. Injection of LPS into the lateral ventricle caused chronic inflammation and produced deficits in learning in a memory-impairment animal model. Daily administration of GRg3 (10, 20, and 50 mg/kg, i.p.) for 21 consecutive days markedly improved the LPS-induced learning and memory disabilities demonstrated on the step-through passive avoidance test and Morris water maze test. GRg3 administration significantly decreased expression of pro-inflammatory mediators such as tumor necrosis factor-${\alpha}$, interleukin-1${\beta}$, and cyclooxygenase-2 in the hippocampus, as assessed by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction analysis and immunohistochemistry. Together, these findings suggest that GRg3 significantly attenuated LPS-induced cognitive impairment by inhibiting the expression of pro-inflammatory mediators in the rat brain. These results suggest that GRg3 may be effective for preventing or slowing the development of neurological disorders, including Alzheimer's disease, by improving cognitive and memory functions due to its anti-inflammatory activity in the brain.

Effects of a Treatment Program by Types of Underachiever on the Science Achievement and Attitude Toward Science in Junior High School Students (학습부진아 유형별 처치프로그램이 중학생의 과학 성취도와 과학에 대한 태도에 미치는 효과)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of a treatment program by types of underachiever developed from "electric voltage and current" section in the 8th grade science textbook. The program for the underachiever who have lack of basic knowledge and needs to learning aimed to improve their achievement and attitude toward science. For this study, 171 8th grade students were sampled and distributed to control and experimental group. Among them, 54 underachievers were identified. The underachievers were defined as science achievement level is below mean and IQ is above 90. The independent variables in this study were teaching method (traditional instruction and developed instruction) and types of underachiever. The dependent variables were students' achievement and attitude toward science. Pretest-posttest control group design was used. The main results of this study were that the treatment program emphasizing learning sheet activities based on LT(Learning Together) model had significant effect for underachievers who have lack of basic knowledge and needs to learning to increase their achievement and attitude toward science.

An Analysis of Structural Model on the Learning Intention of the Participants in the Robot Programming (로봇프로그래밍 학습참여자의 학습의도 구조모형 분석)

  • The analysis on learners made through the study focuses on the intention of the participants in the learning activities of the robot programming. Therefore, for the analysis of the learners' intention, which is tried in the study, TAM, the analysis tool used for understanding buying acts or buying intention of buyers in the business sector, is basically utilized, and the Flow theory is additionally applied, trying to know, through the quantum analysis methods, the factors to give influence on the intention for learners to take part in the robot programming lesson. For this, a quantum analysis was made by PLS analysis, a kind of structural equations. As the result of the analysis, it is confirmed that such factors as 'recognized utility' and 'recognized readiness' and 'Flow' give significant influence on the intention of learners' participation in the lesson. As the result of the synthetic analysis and in regard with the value of the programming lesson, it is found that the following factors give actual influence to the intention of learners: the group where learners belong or teaching-learning organizations together with creating social rapport, learning tasks given for learners, etc.

  • This study is considered how to use newspapers to apply education by the way of analyses of environment coverage in newspapers. Data for the study were gathered by content analyses of KINDS(Korean Integrated News Database System) established by Korean Press Institute. The environment coverage is mainly placed in social and regional magazines of newspapers, and the news story are mainly assigned to straight/feature magazines in type. The news of environment coverage is mostly gathered from data by government-informer, and the news is positive/agreement or negative/disagreement in tenor. The news gathering methods of planning/magazine newspaper serial are scientific and objective, and they are of the firsthand data by news reporter, contributions by experts and interviews. The spaces of the news are specially edited. The environment news is often negative/disagreeable in tenor because the news is mostly of straight ones written by non-experts. Applying newspapers in education is a useful learning method which students could develop thinking power and induce concerning and interest by themselves. From the results of the study, the useful suggestions to apply newspapers to learning are as follows. At first, spaces and types of news must be read in detail. Secondly, it is hopeful that indirect news by not writer himself might be possibly avoided in learning. Thirdly, the themes of news would be picked up in relation with learning contents. Lastly, it suggests that the tenor of news is neutral or, in cases, positive and negative together possibly.

A Bubble Detection Method for Conformal Coated PCB Using Transfer Learning based CNN (전이학습 기반의 CNN을 이용한 컨포멀 코팅 PCB에 발생한 기포 검출 방법)

  • Air bubbles which may be generated during the PCB coating process can be a major cause of malfunction. so it is necessary to detect the bubbles in advance. In previous studies, candidates for bubbles were extracted using the brightness characteristics of bubbles, and the candidates were verified using CNN(Convolutional Neural Networks). In this paper, we propose a bubble detection method using a transfer learning-based CNN model. The VGGNet is adopted and sigmoid is used as a classification layer, and the last convolutional layer and classification layer are trained together when transfer learning is applied. The performance of the proposed method is F1-score 0.9044, which shows an improvement of about 0.17 compared to the previous study.

  • Machine learning has a close relationship with cognitive psychology and brain science and is developing together. This paper analyzes the OASIS-3 dataset using machine learning techniques and proposes a model for predicting dementia. Dimensional reduction through PCA (Principal Component Analysis) is performed on the data quantifying the volume of each area among OASIS-3 data, and only important elements (features) are extracted and then various machine learning including gradient boosting and stacking Apply the models and compare the performance of each. Unlike previous studies, the proposed technique has a great differentiation because it uses not only the brain biometric data, but also basic information data such as the participant's gender and medical information data of the participant. In addition, it was shown that the proposed technique through various performance evaluations is a model that can better predict dementia by finding features that are more related to dementia among various numerical data.

Performance Comparison of Neural Network and Gradient Boosting Machine for Dropout Prediction of University Students

  • Dropouts of students not only cause financial loss to the university, but also have negative impacts on individual students and society together. To resolve this issue, various studies have been conducted to predict student dropout using machine learning. This paper presents a model implemented using DNN (Deep Neural Network) and LGBM (Light Gradient Boosting Machine) to predict dropout of university students and compares their performance. The academic record and grade data collected from 20,050 students at A University, a small and medium-sized 4-year university in Seoul, were used for learning. Among the 140 attributes of the collected data, only the attributes with a correlation coefficient of 0.1 or higher with the attribute indicating dropout were extracted and used for learning. As learning algorithms, DNN (Deep Neural Network) and LightGBM (Light Gradient Boosting Machine) were used. Our experimental results showed that the F1-scores of DNN and LGBM were 0.798 and 0.826, respectively, indicating that LGBM provided 2.5% better prediction performance than DNN.

Development and Effectiveness Analysis of Sustainable Dietary Free-year Program for the Improvement of Youth Empowerment in Middle School Home Economics (청소년의 임파워먼트 향상을 위한 가정교과 지속가능한 식생활 자유학년제 프로그램 개발 및 효과분석)

  • The purpose of this study was to develop a sustainable dietary education program for middle school home economics subject using a teaching strategy to improve the empowerment of adolescents and to verify and evaluate the effectiveness of the program. To achieve the purpose of this study, the program was developed and evaluated according to the ADDIE teaching design model. The contents related to the dietary area were extracted from the technical & home economics curriculum of the 2015 revised middle school and SDGs, and their relevance was analyzed to select the contents of dietary education. The program developed based on the analysis results is 'dietary life together' and consists of five learning topics: 'living together in the global village', 'maintaining healthy diet', 'creating a dietary culture together', 'living with nature and people', and 'maintaining a safe diet'. As a strategy for improving empowerment, we presented four situations, each of which represents value judgment, prediction of results, responsible behavior choice, and decision making. The developed program was reviewed by experts and applied to 17 unit classes for 17 weeks (1 unit hour per week) to the third graders of middle schools in Gyeonggi-do. Significant differences were found between before and after the class measurements of the personal empowerment and the political and social empowerment, which shows the classes were effective in improving empowerment. However, since there was no significant difference in interpersonal empowerment before and after the program, suggestions were made to utilize strategies to facilitate discussion and cooperative learning when implementing the program. The students who participated in the class evaluated the program positively as a whole. The program was evaluated to have helped the students believe they could change society through solving dietary problems.
