  • Carbapenem resistance, mediated by the major acquired metallo-β-lactamase (MBL) genes, has been increasingly reported, particularly for clinical isolates of Acinetobacter spp. Of the 191 nonduplicate clinical isolates of the carbapenem-nonsusceptible Acinetobacter spp. evaluated, 125 isolates (65.4%) were positive for the modified imipenem or meropenem-Hodge test, and 49 isolates (25.7%) were positive for the imipenem-EDTA+SMA double disk synergy test (DDS). PCR and sequencing of the blaVIM-2-allele and blaIMP-1-allele showed that 29 A. baumannii isolates and 1 A. calcoaceticus isolate had blaVIM-2, whereas 16 A. baumannii isolates and 2 A. calcoaceticus isolates had blaIMP-6; 1 isolate of the A. genomospecies 3 had blaVIM-2 and blaAIM-1. All the above MBL genes belong to class 1 integron. The size of class 1 integron encompassing blaVIM-2 or blaIMP-6 ranges from 2.8 kb to 3.2 kb in clinical isolates of A. baumannii, and 3.2 kb to 3.5 kb in clinical isolates of A. genomospecies 3. blaVIM-2 was most often located first or second in the class 1 integron, and these integrons often included aacA4. Due to dispersion of the MBL-producing Acinetobacter spp. as well as integron, which may encompass various resistance genes, there is an expectation for the increase of multidrug resistant Gram-negative bacteria, including resistance of carbapenems such as imipenem or meropenem. Hence, the development of new antimicrobial agents for treating severe Acinetobacter spp. infections is needed.

  • In an attempt to find a new class of anti microbial agents, a series of thiazolidinone and their 5-arylidene derivatives containing 4-(4-methyl benzamido)-benzoyl moiety were synthesized via the reaction of benzocaine with appropriate chemical reagents. These compounds were screened for their antibacterial activity against Gram-positive bacteria (Bacillus subtilis and Bacillus thuringiensis), Gram-negative bacteria (Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa) and antifungal activity against Botrytis fabae, Fusarium oxysporan and Candida albicans. On the other hand the synthesized compounds were also screened for their anti tubercular activity. IR, $^1H$ NMR, $^{13}C$ NMR and MS spectral analyses established the structures of the newly synthesized compounds. The results revealed that some of these compounds have shown promising antimicrobial and anti tubercular activity in comparison with standard drugs.

  • In this paper asymptotic error expansions for mixed finite element approximations to a class of second order elliptic optimal control problems are derived under rectangular meshes, and the Richardson extrapolation of two different schemes and interpolation defect correction can be applied to increase the accuracy of the approximations. As a by-product, we illustrate that all the approximations of higher accuracy can be used to form a class of a posteriori error estimators of the mixed finite element method for optimal control problems.

  • In this paper, we introduce and study the class of rings in which every ideal consisting entirely of zero divisors is a d-ideal, considered as a generalization of strongly duo rings. Some results including the characterization of AA-rings are given in the first section. Further, we examine the stability of these rings in localization and study the possible transfer to direct product and trivial ring extension. In addition, we define the class of dE-ideals which allows us to characterize von Neumann regular rings.

  • Low-Voltage power lines should equip surge protection devices which protect electronic equipments and human lives against lightning and abnormal voltages. Data transmission capacity of the power line is determined by frequency characteristics of the surge protective devices. To analyze the effects of surge protective devices on the data transmission performance, various combinations of installation methods are tested which include ZnO varistor elements that is compatible with class I, class II and class III. The result claims that ZnO varistor for class III is found to be one of the main factors that deteriorates the transmission performance. To overcome this problem a serial connection methed between Gap type SPD and ZnO varistor is proposed. With the proposed scheme, laboratory experimental results show that the data transmission performance can be improved up to 91.9[%] with proper SPD combination.

  • In many other buildings, hospital is very important because of its function and purpose. A proper building service systems including heating, cooling, ventilation and plumbing systems is required in hospial. Besides, a special systems like medical gas, vacuum cleaning systems are required to prevent contamination as well as cure a patient in hospital. Ventilation is very important method to keep the indoor pressure and clean class. There are some specific rooms to consider clean class and indoor pressure in the general hospital. In this article, specific rooms were set to operating room, laboratory, ICU, isolation unit, and sterilizer room. In this case study, design factors of ventilation system, including air changes of OA and TA, indoor pressure, clean class, filter, and material of system, of specific rooms in hospital were proposed through a literature research and a design examples review.

  • This article introduce Comfort Class V released by Dnv The Class has an objective of classifying ships by noise and vibration levees. It is apparent that noise criteria listed in the Class can not be satisfied without special efforts to enhance sound insulation performance in cabins. Accordingly, panel makers should develope panels which have very high sound insulation performance enough to satisfy the criteria. Also, due to large difference of sound insulation performance between cabin and laboratory, it is necessary that ship yards should improve the method for installing cabins.

  • To identify immune response of leukocytes in peripheral blood of cattle vaccinated with an attenuated live Akabane virus vaccine, leukocytes were reacted with monoclonal antibodies which are specific to bovine lymphocyte surface antigens and assayed by the flow cytometry. Serum neutralizing (SN) test was used to measure antibody titers after vaccination, SN antibody was appeared to 7 days post-vaccination (PV) and 2-8 antibody titers were observed in 14 days PV. Proportion of $CD8^-$ MHC $class II^+$ expressing cells were rapidly increased at 3 days PV. $CD8^+$ MHC $class II^-$ cells were increased at 7 days PV. $CD4^+CD8^-,\;WC^+CD4^-,\;CD4^+CD8^+,\;WC1^-CD4^+, \;WC1^-CD8^+$, and $CD4^-CD8^+$ cells were highly increased at 3, 3, 7, 7, 14, 14 days PV, respectively.

  • This study deals with the heading angle and depth keeping control technique for an ROV with multiple horizontal and vertical thrusters by thrust allocation. The light work class ROV URI-L, which is under development at KRISO, is a redundant actuating system with multiple thrusters that are larger than the ROV's degree of freedom. In the redundant actuating system, there are several solutions for a specific ROV motion to be performed. Therefore, a thrust allocation algorithm that considers the entire propulsion system should be regarded as important. First, this paper describes the propulsion system of the ROV and introduces the thrust allocation method of each motion controller. In addition, the performance of the controller is examined using a heading angle and depth keeping control test in a stationary state.
