  • Statement of problem: There have been many studies about marginal adaptation of Zirconia core fabricated with various CAD/CAM systems. But, the comparative study has not been conducted much. Purpose: This study was to compare marginal adaptations of zirconia cores fabricated with 3 different CAD/CAM systems. Material and methods: The in vitro marginal adaptations of zirconia cores fabricated with 3 different CAD/CAM systems($Adens^{(R)}$ system, $Lava^{(R)}$ system, and $Cerasys^{(R)}$ system) were evaluated and compared. In this study 30 zirconia cores were fabricated(10 zirconia cores per each system). The measurements of the marginal adaptatioin were carried out using microscope $L-150A^{(R)}$(Nikon, Japan). Measurements were recorded at 50 points. The measurements were analyzed using Kruskal-Wallis test and Wilcoxon rank sum test. Results: Within the limits of this study, the results were as follows. 1. Mean marginal gap values obtained were $284.5{\pm}152.9{\mu}m$ in Adens system, $99.0{\pm}73.0{\mu}m$ in Lava system, and $153.5{\pm}85.7{\mu}m$ in Cerasys system. 2. Zirconia core made by Lava system showed the smallest marginal gap(P<0.05). Conclusion: In the limitation of this study, we concluded that $Lava^{(R)}$ System was superior than other systems($Adens^{(R)}$ system and $Cerasys^{(R)}$ system) in the marginal adaptation.

  • In the Yeongpyeong River, one of the branches of Hantan River, there 4 fluvial terraces are identified. During the Quaternary, lava flow from Hantan River had gone 4.5km into upstream Part of the Yeongpyeong River and damed its entrance, and resultantly its lower basin had become a lava-damed paleolake. This study deals with fluvial terrace surface classification, stratigraphic analysis, deposits analysis, and OSL age dating in from Gungpyeongri to Seongdongri in lower reach of Yeongpyeong River, in order to identify Seomorphological Process of the terrace landforms relating to duration of lava-damed paleolake. Terrace surface T4, named Baekeuiri Formation, has been located under Jeongok lava layer to indicate pre-lava river bed. Terrace surfaces T3 and T2 are supposed to be formed during paleolake time, based on $3{\~}4m$ thick sand deposits including pebble and cobble layers, and clay and silt layers intersected with sand ones in nearly horizontal bedding. Terrace T1 is estimated to be formed as post-lake fluvial terrace after dissection of lava dam, based on the more fresh phase of deposits and very low height from present riverbed. The results of the OSL age dating for the T3 deposit layers indicate approximately $33{\~}40ka$, and still lake phase at that time.

  • A lava tube is one of the hot issues of lunar science because it is regarded as a good candidate place for setting a lunar base. Recently much effort has been made to find lunar lava tubes. However, preceding works mainly made use of high-resolution lunar surface image data in conjunction with geomorphological consideration to present some lava tube candidates. Yet, those candidates stay no more than indirect indications. We propose a new data analysis technique of High Frequency (HF) radar observation data to find lunar lava tubes of which location depth is smaller than the range resolution of the radar pulse. Such shallow target echoes cannot be resolved from surface echoes, which presents the different location of the lunar surface compared to that of real lunar surface. The proposed technique instead finds the surface range (distance from LRS to the reflector of the most intense signal) anomaly which occurs as a result of the low range resolution of LRS pulse. We applied this technique to the surface range of Kaguya Lunar Radar Sounder (LRS) data. The surface range was deduced to make LRS surface elevation which was compared with the average surface elevation of Kaguya Digital Terrain Model (DTM). An anomalous discrepancy of the surface elevation was found in the Rima Galilaei area, which suggests the existence of a shallow lava tube.

  • Java virtual machine provides code compactness, simple execution engines, and platform-independence which are important features for small devices such as mobile or embedded device, but it has a big problem, such as low throughput due to stack-oriented operation. In this paper hardware lava accelerator targeted for mobile or embedded application is designed to eliminate the slow speed problem of lava virtual machine. The designed lava accelerator can execute 81 instructions of Java virtual machine(JVM)'s opcodes and be used as Java coprocessor of conventional 32-bit RISC processor with efficient coprocessor interface and instruction buffer. It consists of about 14,300 gates and its maximum operating frequency is about 50 Mhz under 0.35um CMOS technology.

  • This Paper is a study on the duality of speleothem that appeared in 'Hyeob Jae Cave' which is designated as the natural monumen. No.236. It is located at Hyeob Jae Ri, Hanrim Eub, Bug Je-ju Gun, Je-judo. The findings are as follows. 1. The distribution range of the shelly sand which has maximum thickness of $10m{\pm}$ and average of $3m{\pm}$ was $3.2m^2$. 2. The desert hollow acted to promote the speleothem deposits in the lava tunnel with lava mound formed by lavapilz and artificial breaksand wall. 3. The main component of the pseudo limestone cavern was carbonate Calcium from shelly sand. And the deposition of speleothem in the Cave was accelerated after the volcanic erupsion of Biyang island in 1002. A.D. 4. The secondary depositions of Calcite recognized as speleothem up to now it can be used for the pseudo karst in general. 5. It seems that the variety of the cave deposits is decided depending upon the geology, land form, climate, vegetations and the structural environmental factors. 6. It seems that the wondering development of accretionary deposits caused by encrusting has a close relation with intermittent seepage of ground water. 7. Finally, we can acknowledge the coexistent duality of speleothem by shelly sand along with the joint and the lava stalactites formed at the same time with the lava tunnel on the ceiling where there was no seepage.

  • In order to examine geomorphic characteristics such as form and retreat process of waterfalls in Jeju Island, 26 waterfalls were classified based upon materials forming a fall face. The waterfalls could be categorized into three types such as single unit, multiple units and basal soft-rock based upon the number and type of a lava flow. A block fall, composed of a pile of large blocks, could be added to the typology of waterfalls in Jeju Island. While the single unit fall is distributed in a region of trachyte or trachyandecite, the multiple units fall and basal soft-rock fall are largely developed in a region of basalt or trachybasalt. A retreat process of the single unit fall is an inclination or a replacement, but the basal soft-rock fall shows a parallel retreat. The multiple units fall exhibits three types of a retreat process according to the physical properties of a lava flow. The fall face is generally vertical due to well-developed vertical joints of a lava flow.

  • In order to determine the runout range of pyroclastic density currents on Jeju island, lava dome collapse on 8 locations of outer rim of Baekrokdam crater were simulated by TITAN2D numerical simulation program. We set parameters as internal friction angle as $30^{\circ}$ and bed friction angle as $20^{\circ}$ to control velocity of currents occurred by lava dome collapse. Then we set the height and radius of lava dome, initial speed of collapse and simulation times. And we carried out numerical simulations for a total of 96 scenarios. The result shows that the maximum runout distance was 13.4 km in case of lava dome collapse. This study can be used database for manufacturing of hazard map to minimize damages caused by pyroclastic density currents occurred on Jeju island.

  • The purpose of this study is to clarified the geology and geomorphic characteristics of the Hantan River Basin. In this area, some kind of landforms are developed such as pre-land forms, lava plateau, and present landforms etc. Some river terraces are peculiar features in the area. Some conclusions are as follows : The vicinity of the Hantan River is lava plateau formed from the volcanic activity. Some steptoes are located in the lava plateau. Baekeuiri formation means the river bed boulder beneath the lava formation. The development of drainage patterns are unstable and the bifurcation ratio, the ratio of mean length of the river are lower than the other rivers. The relative height of the terraces is about $5{\sim}25m$ and the terraces are alluvial terraces. In the Jiktang Fall area, bedrock is granite and basalt plateau covered the bedrock. In that point, the old erosion surface is relatively steeper than the horizontal-basalt plateau. Vertical columnar joints are developed and weathering materials creep on the valley wall. The cross section of the landform of the Kosukjung vicinities are somewhat different from the landforms of Jiktang Fall. The bedrock near the Kosukjung is granite that is the same with the Jiktang Fall. But the cross section shows a asymmetrical curve from each side.

  • Statement of problem: The interest in all-ceramic restorations has increased as more techniques have become available. With the introduction of machinable dental ceramics and CAD/CAM systems there is a need to evaluate the quality levels of these new fabrication techniques. Purpose: This study is to evaluate the crown fidelity(absolute marginal discrepancy and internal gap) of various zirconia-based all-ceramic crowns fabricated with different CAD/CAM(computer-assisted design/computer-assisted manufacturing) systems and conventional cast metal-ceramic crowns. Material and methods: A resin tooth of lower right second premolar was prepared. After an impression was taken, one metal master die was made. Then 40 impressions of metal master dies were taken for working dies. 10 crowns per each system were fabricated using 40 working dies. Metal-ceramic crowns were cast by using the conventional method, and Procera, Lava, and Cerec inLab crowns were fabricated with their own CAD/CAM manufactruing procedures. The vertical marginal discrepancies and internal gaps of each crown groups were measured on a metal master die without a luting agent. The results were statistically analyzed using the one-way ANOVA and Tukey's HSD test. Results: 1. Vertical marginal discrepancies were $50.6{\pm}13.9{\mu}m$ for metal-ceramic crowns, $62.3{\pm}15.7{\mu}m$ for Procera crowns, $45.3{\pm}7.9{\mu}m$ for Lava crowns, and $71.2{\pm}2.0{\mu}m$ for Cerec inLab crowns. 2. The Internal gaps were $52.6{\pm}10.1{\mu}m$ for metal-ceramic crowns, $161.7{\pm}18.5{\mu}m$ for Procera crowns, $63.0{\pm}10.2{\mu}m$ for Lava crowns, and $73.7{\pm}10.7{\mu}m$ for Cerec inLab crowns. Conclusion: 1. The vertical marginal discrepancies of, 4 crown groups were all within the clinically acceptable range($120{\mu}m$). 2. The internal gaps of LAVA, Cerec inlab, and metal-ceramic crowns were within clinically acceptable range except Procera crown($140{\mu}m$).
