  • The aim of this study was to identify factors affecting life satisfaction for adolescents with asthma or atopic dermatitis. Korean Child and Youth Panel Survey (KCYPS) Data in 2016 was used. The data were analyzed by Chi-square test, t-test, one-way ANOVA and stepwise multiple linear regression. In multiple stepwise regression analysis, less depression, higher resilience, higher self-esteem, more affectionate parenting behavior, lower age enhances the life satisfaction of adolescents with allergic disease. Educational program is necessary to improve the life satisfaction of adolescents with asthma or atopic dermatitis which is reflecting the result of this study.

  • Using the second year data of the Korean Child and Youth Panel Survey (KCYPS) elementary 4 panel, this study attempted to elucidate variables related to elementary school 5th graders' life satisfaction and how the variables are clustered in each gender. Analyzing the data of 2378 5th graders (boys 1180, girls 1084) indicated that variables related to their life satisfaction were self-esteem, parenting style, peer attachment, grade satisfaction, and school adjustment. Both boys and girls were clustered into three clusters. The cluster 1 children indicated the highest degrees of self-esteem, peer attachment, grade satisfaction and school adjustment levels, and they perceived parenting style more positively than the children from the other clusters. The cluster 3 children showed the opposite trends to the cluster 1 children in each of the five variables and the cluster 2 showed middle levels in all of the variables. The characteristics of the three clusters were analyzed in terms of the differences of children's life satisfaction and explanatory variables of life satisfaction.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the factors that influence youth reading habits through exploratory data analysis of various reading variables. Using data from the Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey, we divided participants into a reading group and a non-reading group and analyzed the factors influencing reading habits through a t-test that compared the mean differences between the two groups. The results are as follows: The reading group showed higher scores than the non-reading group in learning-related factors such as study time and academic engagement, positive emotional factors, career-related factors, and social activity factors such as club participation and volunteering. On the other hand, the non-reading group scored higher in key factors such as academic helplessness, emotional problems like aggression and depression, and experiences of delinquent behavior. Additionally, this study suggests further research topics such as the relationship between reading and interactions with parents, cooperation as a social emotion, and physical activity, areas that have not been deeply explored in previous studies.

Methods: This study utilized the 7th wave data from the Korean Child Youth Panel Survey(KCYPS), and the sample included 1,805 participants with no missing data. The data was analyzed using SPSS 23.0 and AMOS 23.0 programs. Results: First, the experiences of neglect directly affected adolescent smart phone dependency. Second, the experiences of neglect indirectly affect smart phone dependency partially mediated by self resilience and alienation. Conclusions: The ways to prevent adolescent smart phone dependency were discussed.

  • The aims of this study were to investigate the effects of self-efficacy on adolescents' school adjustments and to identify mediating effects of depression and aggression. To this end, we conducted descriptive analysis, correlation analysis, and path analysis, using data from the 2008 Korean Youth Panel Survey undertaken by the National Youth Policy Institute. Our analysis shows that self-efficacy has positive effects on adolescents' school adjustments, while both depression and aggression have negative effects on adolescents' school adjustments. Moreover, both depression and aggression have a mediating effect when it comes to self-efficacy and school adjustments. These results imply that schools should consider developing a service delivery system by providing students with professional services that enhance self-efficacy. Moreover, such services will be more effective when they are combined with a program that reduces students' depression and aggression.

  • Objective: This study focused on the longitudinal associations between self-esteem and peer relationships in Korean adolescents while considering gender and timing-early and late adolescence-differences. Methods: The study made use of data from the Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey. Three waves of data collected from 2,351 adolescents were analyzed by means of autoregressive cross-lagged modeling. Results: The results indicated that self-esteem predicted subsequent changes in peer relationship but not vice versa. Further, the results that longitudinal associations between self-esteem and peer relationships differed between male and female adolescents and between early and late adolescence. Conclusion: The findings revaluated the longitudinal relationship between self-esteem and peer relationships. Both gender and timing should be considered when planning interventions related issues about self-esteem and peer relationships in adolescence.

  • This study advances knowledge of developmental patterns in poverty and delinquency; data was obtained from waves 1-5 (2003-2007) of the Korea Youth Panel Survey. Semi-parametric group-based modeling (SGM) identified 4 trajectories of poverty from age 13 to 17 : non-poor, poverty increasing, low-level continuous poverty and chronic poverty groups and five developmental trajectories of delinquency : non-offending, late onset, low-level continuous, desisting, and chronic groups. A joint trajectory method predicted patterns of delinquency conditional on poverty trajectories. Chronic and low-level continuous poverty groups were more likely than others to follow chronic trajectories of delinquency; the non-poor group was more likely to be non-offending. Implications of this study for youth welfare were discussed to reduce risk for delinquency.

  • This study aimed to investigate protective factors and risk factors in elementary students' life satisfaction. Participants were 2844 (1524 boys, 1320 girls) children who grades were 4th, 5th, 6th in KYPS (Korea Youth Panel Survey). Data mining decision tree model was performed with sex, appearance, delinquency, family income, attachment to parents, parental monitoring, attachment to teachers, academic achievement, peer delinquency, and attachments to peer. The results revealed that : (1) For 4th graders, academic achievement, attachment to parents, and appearance were significant predictors for life satisfaction. (2) For 5th graders, attachment to parents, academic achievement, parental monitoring and appearance were significant predictors for life satisfaction. (3) For 6th graders, attachment to parents, appearance, parental monitoring and delinquency were significant predictors for life satisfaction. Protective factors and risk factors were changed according to interactions between significant independent variables. These results suggest that children's diverse conditions should be considered individually in programs for children's life satisfaction.
