The purpose of this study was to investigate the elementary school teacher's status and recognition of nutrition education (NE) in Incheon. A cross-sectional study was carried out using a self-administered questionnaire and subjects were 147 elementary school teachers. The results are as follows. Only 9.5% of the teachers had training in NE and 71.4% of the teachers with training increased concern about NE after training. As for experience of NE, 61.6% of the teachers experienced NE and more than half of them gave NE less than twice per month. There was a significant difference in reason for not giving NE between subgroups by teaching career; 57.7% of the teachers with career more than 10 years did not give NE due to too much other work. As for existence of nutrition educator in school, 48.9% of the teachers recognized its existence and 91.3% of them answered that dietitians have done NE. For correction of unbalanced diet, good table manner, and nutrition and growth, 97.9% of the teachers answered that NE is necessary in elementary school. As for proper time to start NE, 57.5% of the teachers answered kindergarten and 39,7% answered lower grade of elementary school. As for effective type for NE, 47.3% of the teachers answered NE as a part of other subject and 28.1 % answered NE as a separate subject. Also 69.8% of the teachers answered dietitian as suitable person for NE. As for newly establishing a NE subject, 37.9% of the teachers disagreed and as for most effective method for NE, 73.3% answered NE linked with school lunch program. Most of teachers recognized elementary school students' eating habit problem severe and change of their eating habit such as various food choice, no plate waste and good table manner after school lunch program. Therefore, it should be nationally supported that a standardized NE program is developed and coordinated among teachers, school lunch dietitian as NE specialist, family and community for elementary students' health and well-being.
The purpose of this research is to investigate the mother and teachers need assessment for preschooler consumer education and related variables and to provide a basis for the development of consumer education program. The survey of this research was conducted by means of self-administered questionnaire with 302 mothers of the preschoolers who are 4-5 years old and attend nursery and kindergarten and 221 teachers of nursery and kindergarten in Ulsan. The statistics used for data analysis are frequencies and percentage, mean and standard deviation, on way ANOVA and Scheffee-test, Person's correlation using the SPSS/PC+ program. Some conclusions from the above investigation are as follows: 1. Each level of the need for consumer education on 22 subject area perceived by mothers and teachers of preschoolers was high and relatively high. Thus consumer education program for preschooler must include all subject area. 2. The mother's need for preschooler consumer education differs significantly according to age. The teacher's need for preschooler consumer education differs significantly according to family income. But these variables take a little effect to the need of mother and teacher. So the consumer education program doesn't need to classify by socio-economic characteristics of mother and teacher. 3. The mother's need for preschooler consumer education are positively correlated to consumer knowledge and consumer skill but negatively correlated to consumption oriented attitude. So the consumer education program needs to develop the consumer knowledge and skill and reduce consumption oriented attitude for the preschooler's mother. 4. The teacher's need for preschooler consumer education are positively correlated to the level of consumer role performance. Thus the reeducation program for the teacher needs to develop the consumer role performance.
The study is to research their parenting efficacy and parenting practices of a parent teacher as a volunteer(PTV) in the kindergarten. The subjects were mothers (N=127) in Choongbuk Province who had had volunteer education as a teacher assistant. The data were collected by their completing a questionnaire about Parenting efficacy and a Parent As A Teacher inventory (PAAT). The results include as follows: firstly, in PTV's parenting efficacy, 'the type of educational institution children are attending' is an important variable. Secondly, 'mother's educational background', 'father's educational background', and 'the type of educational institution children attending' are important variables in volunteer parents' parenting practices. Besides, 'mother's educational background' and 'participation motivation in volunteer activity' are important variables in parenting practices of 'control/permission' and of 'teaching/learning', and in general parenting practices. This study investigated the relationships between the child-rearing involvement of fathers and their children's social-emotional competence. The subjects were 257 kindergarten children and their fathers. Data on the children's social and emotional competence were provided by their mothers, kindergarten teachers and five trained observers. The observers tested the social-emotional problem solving ability of the children. The data were analyzed by frequency, percentage, mean, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Scheffe post test, and Pearson's correlations. Results showed child rearing involvement differences between fathers based on (1) age and educational level of fathers, and (2) sex of child. Father's child-rearing involvement and child's social-emotional competence were correlated, especially in children whose fathers participated positively in child-rearing and had effective cognitive strategies for solving social and emotional problems.
This study examined the development of children's perceptions of popular and unpopular peers. Subjects were 784 children in kindergarten, $2^{nd}$, $4^{th}$, and $6^{th}$ grades. Research findings were that : (1)socio-metric popularity and perceived popularity correlated positively with athletic ability, academic ability, and prosocial behavior. Whereas two subtypes of aggression(physical aggression and relational aggression) correlated negatively with sociometric popularity, perceived popularity correlated positively with relational aggression in 6th grade. (2)Social behaviors consistently emerged across developmental periods as predictors of popularity. (3)Academic ability was an important characteristic of popular children. (4)Teachers' praise and punishment affected popularity in kindergarten and $2^{nd}$grade children, but peer effect was more important for $4^{th}$ and $6^{th}$graders.
Using qualitative methods of interviewing, documentation, and participant observation, this study explored kindergarten children's understanding on their transition into elementary school. Phenomenologically, results showed that children understood that the transition into elementary school means thrownness (Geworfenheit) and projection (Entwurf). When children answered the question about why they want to go to elementary school, their responses demonstrated an understanding of the inevitability (thrownness) of transition. That is, they understood that entering elementary school was an unavoidable step for growing up. They expected(projected) that they would enjoy new activities and opportunities in elementary school. While they felt anxious about stem teachers and difficult studies, they looked forward to intellectual development, various indoor activities, outdoor exercises, and multi-layered encounters.
An experimental group consisting of 15 boys and 13 girls, and a control group of 12 boys and 18 girls comprised the 58 five-year-old kindergarten sample of this study. Teachers measured children's emotional intelligence with the Emotional Intelligence Rating Scale(Kim, 1998); educational activities for the emotions focusing on self-awareness, self-management, self-motivation, empathy, and social skills were carried out with the experimental group. ANCOVA confirmed effectiveness of the educational activities; the experimental group had higher scores than the control group on self-awareness and expression of emotion, emotional regulation, and awareness of others' emotion. Children of the experimental group also showed higher interpersonal abilities in teacher and in peer relationships than the control group.
