  • In this paper, performances of different ultra-wideband (UWB) modulation schemes in the presence of timing jitter are evaluated and compared. Static and Rayleigh fading channels are considered. For fading channels, Oat and dispersive channels are assumed. First, bit error rate (BER) performances for each case are derived for a fixed value of timing jitter. Later, a uniform distribution of jitter is assumed to evaluate the performance of the system, and the theoretical results are verified by computer simulations. Finger estimation error is treated as timing jitter and an appropriate model is generated. Furthermore, a worst case distribution that provides an upper bound on the system performance is presented and compared with other distributions. Effects of timing jitter on systems employing different pulse shapes are analyzed to show the dependency of UWB performance on pulse shape. Although our analysis assumes uniform timing jitter, our framework can be used to evaluate the BER performance for any given probability distribution function of the jitter.

  • It has been known that 1/f noise of MOSFET is generated by the superposition of single random telelgraph signals (RTS). In this study, jitters caused by 1/f noise of MOSFET are analysed with RTS supplied to all of the nodes of the CMOS ring oscillator under investigation. Through the analysis of the variations of jitters and jitter ratios with varying values of the amplitude of RTS, it is found that the jitters and the jitter ratios are proportional to the amplitude of RTS. And the analysis of FFT of the outputs of the ring oscillator reveals that the jitters are closely related to the phase noise of the high order harmonics of the ring oscillator outputs.

  • This paper describes procedures of changing and measuring voice quality in terms of jitter. Jitter synthesis method was applied to the TD-PSOLA analysis system of the Praat software. The jitter component is synthesized based on a Gaussian random noise model. The TD-PSOLA re-synthesize process is used to synthesize the modified voice with artificial jitter. Various vocal jitter parameters are used to measure the change in quality caused by artificial systematic jitter change. Synthetic vowels, natural vowels and short sentences are used to check the change in voice quality through the synthesizer model. The results shows that the suggested method is useful for voice quality control in a limited way and can be used to alter the jitter component of voice.

  • In this study, a method for measuring the jitter component in continuous speech is presented. In the conventional jitter measurement method, pitch variabilities are commonly measured from the sustained vowels. In the case of continuous speech, such as a spoken sentence, distortion occurs with the existing measurement method owing to the influence of prosody information according to the sentence. Therefore, we propose a method to reduce the pitch fluctuations of prosody information in continuous speech. To remove this pitch fluctuation component, a curve representing the fluctuation is obtained via polynomial interpolation for the pitch track in the analysis interval, and the shift is removed according to the curve. Subsequently, the variability of the pitch frequency is obtained by a method of measuring jitter from the trajectory of the pitch from which the shift is removed. To measure the effects of the proposed method, parameter values before and after the operations are compared using samples from the Kay Pentax MEEI database. The statistical analysis of the experimental results showed that jitter components from the continuous speech can be measured effectively by proposed method and the values are comparable to the parameters of sustained vowel from the same speaker.

  • This paper proposes a method on the performance analysis of pulse repetition frequency jitter compensation for generating Doppler profile. Exact phase compensation of each pulse is required to obtain Doppler profiles under pulse repetition frequency jitter. Three parameters such as velocity, pulse repetition frequency, and carrier frequency are examined to cause errors when conducting the pulse repetition frequency jitter compensation, then assuming well-focused Doppler profiles reflect well-conducted pulse repetition frequency jitter compensation, the proposed method in this paper utilizes the contrast to measure how well Doppler profile is generated. These are validated by electromagnetic computation data and computer simulation. Then, it is concluded which parameter is important on the performance analysis of pulse repetition frequency jitter compensation by using the contrast.

  • The purposes of this study was to conduct a correlational analysis among $F_^{0}$, Jitter, Shimmer, and NHR (HNR), and NNE estimated by three speech analysis softwares, MDVP, Praat and Dr. Speech. Thirty females and 15 males with normal voice participated in the study. We used Sound Forge 6.0 to record their voice. MDVP, Praat and Dr. Speech were used to measure the acoustic parameters. The Pearson correlation coefficient was determined through a statistical analysis. The results came out as follows: Firstly, there was a strong correlation between $F_^{0}$ and Shimmer of both instruments. However, there was no correlation between Jitter of both instruments. Secondly, Shimmer showed a stronger correlation with HNR, NHR, and NNE than Jitter. Therefore, Shimmer was considered to be more useful and sensitive parameter to identify dysphonic voice compared to jitter.

  • Delay and jitter are critical factors in the real-time video services over ATM network. Mostly, delay and jitter problem are generated in input buffer when video are multiplexed. In this paper, we analyze delay and jitter of input buffer, and consider efficient control and flexible bandwidth allocation of video traffic. Also, we analyze decision of buffer size related maximum allowable delay.

  • It is known that 1/f noise of MOSFET is generated by superposition of single Random Telelgraph Signal (RTS). In this study, jitter from 1/f noise of MOSFET is analysed with RTS supplied to one of the nodes of the ring oscillator under investigation. Jitter rates are investigated as the number of stage, power supply voltage, and the amplitude of RTS change.

  • In this paper we propose an analytical model for jitter, wherein we implement the interrupted Poisson process (IPP) for incoming traffic. First, we obtain an analytical model for the jitter on one node with respect to the phase probabilities, traffic load, and tagged traffic share in the aggregate traffic flow. Then, we analyze N-node cases, and propose a model for end-to-end jitter. Our analysis leads to some fast-to-compute approximations that can be used for future network design or admission control. Finally, we validate our analytical results by comparing them with previous results for limit cases, as well as with event-driven simulations. We propose the use of our results as guidelines for jitter evaluation of real IP traffic.
