  • For the higher density DRAM'S, innovations in fabrication process and circuit design which have led to dramatic density improvement are discussed from the desinger's perspective. A new dynamic RAM cell called Trench Epitaxial Transistor Cell(TETC) using trench technics and SEG have been developed for use in future megabit DRAMS. Storge electrode with $n^+$-polysilicon and $n^+$-source electrode are self-contacted in TETC. With keeping the storage capacitance large enough to prevent soft errors, the cell size reduced to 30% compare with existing BSE cell by utilizing the vertical capacitor made along the isolation region.

  • From this first studies, We have investigated the latch-up characteristics of various CMOS well structures possible with high energy ion implantation processes. In this study, we also investigated those of STI(Shallow Trench Isolation} structures with varing n+/p+ spacing and the depth of trench. STI structure is formed by T-SUPREM4 process simulator, and then latch-up simulations for each case were performed by MEDICI device simulator for latch-up immunity improvement. STI is very effective to preventing the degradation of latch-up characteristics as the n+/p+ spacing is reduced. These studies will allow us to evaluate each technology and suggest guidelines for the optimization of latch-up susceptibility.

  • As a basic study for quality improvement of Korean soybean paste and soybean sauce, we investigated on microflora of soybean paste and soybean sauce fermentation. Major Microorganisms were isolated from the sample pastes and sauces, and identified systematically. Selected Microorganisms were identified by MIS whole cell fatty acid analysis by gas chromatography. Identification results showed that Bacillus licheniformis, bacillus pumilis and Bacillus subtilis were dominant in soybean paste and Staphylococcus vitulus, Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus pumilus, and Lactobacillus fermentum were dominant in soybean sauce. It seemed that these Microorganisms played an important role in soybean paste and soybean sauce fermentation and could be used for the further studies such as protease and amylase activities.

  • The paper considers acoustic analysis of the shock absorbing muffler within a rotary compressor. The internal space of the compressor is modelled as a combination of cavities and pipes. A simple one-dimensional impedance approach is used fur the acoustic analysis in the low frequency range, with ignoring the effects of gas flow and temperature gradients that are closely related to power efficiency of the compressor. Using the similarity between the vibration isolator and the shock absorbing muffler, the source strength transmissibility is newly proposed as a performance measure of the muffler and its validity is supported by power analysis. Some Important muffler design rules obtained are; (1) a muffler cavity and its opening throat should be used as a pair, (2) a long thin throat is desirable for high frequency noise isolation, (3) a large muffler cavity should be used with care since it shortens the working frequency range of the muffler. The rules were applied to redesign a compressor muffler currently in use, and a significant improvement was achieved by simply attaching a throat to the outlet holes of the muffler.

  • As remodeling market is growing and peoples' concern on health and well-being is getting high, there is a need to apply environmentally friendly approach to remodeling an apartment houses. But, in point of the impact noise concerned, the thickness of the concrete slab and the limited ceiling height of the remodelling houses are the main constraints to improve the impact noise performance. In order to investigate the effect of the impact noise isolation as structural treatments for the structural elements, heavy-weight impact noise and tapping noise were measured in an remodeling building. As a result, structural strengthening method by H-beam was successful to enhance the impact noise level at about 3 or 4 class by the sound classification system.

  • This paper presents the 1.5\ulcorner PSA bipolar device which establishes the performance improvement such as the reduction of emitter resistance and substrate junction capacitance. To achieve the above electrical characteristics, RTA process and trench isolation technology were adapted. The emitter resistance and substrate capacitance of npn transistor having 1.5$[\times}6{\mu}m^{2}$emitter area was measured with 63$\Omega$and 28fF, respectively. The minimum propagation delay time shows 121ps at 0.7mW from the measurement of 31 stage ring oscillator.

  • This paper presents a method to improve vibration characteristics of servo track write (STW) fixture. STW fixtures supported by flexible mounts are subject to various vibration sources. Using Finite element analysis (FEA) vibration modes of the fixture are identified. The FEA results suggest certain vibration modes be reduced through design change of flexible mounts to improve vibration responses of the fixture. Based on layered flexible mounts theory a parametric study on shear and bending stiffness is performed to obtain a suitable flexible mount design leading to increased resistance to rocking motion. Experiments confirm improvement of vibration characteristics and drive performance through new mounts design.

  • When English language teachers are deciding on their priorities for teaching pronunciation, it is imperative to know what kind of differences and errors are most likely to interfere with communication, and what special problems particular first-language speakers will have with English pronunciation. In other words, phoneme discrimination skill is an integral part of speech processing for the EFL learners' learning to converse in English. Training using sound visualization technique can be effective in improving second language learners' perceptions and productions of segmental and suprasegmental speech contrasts. This study assessed the efficacy of a pronunciation training that provided visual feedback for EFL learners acquiring pitch and durational contrasts to produce and perceive English phonemic distinctions. The subjects' ability to produce and to perceive novel English words was tested in two contexts before and after training; words in isolation and words in sentences. In comparison with an untrained control group, trainees showed improved perceptual and productive performance, transferred their knowledge to new contexts, and maintained their improvement three months after training. These findings support the feasibility of learner-centered programs using sound visualization technique for English language pronunciation instruction.

  • A 0.18-${\mu}m$ 3.3 V grounded-gate NMOS (GGNMOS) I/O cell array for timing controller (TCON) application is proposed for improving electrical overstress (EOS) robustness. The improved cell array consists of 20 GGNMOS, 4 inserted well taps, 2 end-well taps and shallow trench isolation (STI). Technology computer-aided design (TCAD) simulation results show that the inserted well taps and extended drain contact gate spacing (DCGS) is effective in preventing EOS failure, e.g. local burnout. Thermodynamic models for device simulation enable us to obtain lattice temperature distributions inside the cells. The peak value of the maximum lattice temperature in the improved GGNMOS cell array is lower than that in a conventional GGNMOS cell array. The inserted well taps also improve the uniformity of turn-on of GGNMOS cells. EOS test results show the validity of the simulation results on improvement of EOS robustness of the new GGNMOS I/O cell array.
