  • Many anti-islanding methods have been developed and tested in pratice. Generally, it seems to be possible to include effective and reliable anti-islanding methods in the PV inverter However, it is difficult to detect islanding phenomenon in the case of multiple systems in the same distribution line. In this paper, the islanding possibility of distributed PV generation system is analyzed and discussed to detect islanding phenomenon.

  • Islanding phenomenon is undesirable because it lead to a safety hazard to utility service personnel and may cause damage to power generation and power supply facilities as a result of unsynchronized reclosure. In order to prevent the phenomenon, various anti-islanding methods have been studied. This paper proposes the variation method of inverter output current magnitude to prevent the islanding phenomenon as a novel method, which causes the large frequency variation of inverter output voltage after islanding. Unlike most active anti-islanding method deteriorating power quality, this novel method will have high performance of islanding detection and good power quality. For the verification of the proposed method, the simulated result and analyses are presented.

  • Islanding phenomenon of photovoltaic system is undesirable because it leads to a safety hazard to utility service personnel and may cause damage to power generation and power supply facilities as a result of unsynchronized re-closure. Anti-islanding protection is an important technical requirement for grid-connected PV system. Until now, various anti-islanding methods for detecting and preventing islanding of photovoltaic and other distributed generations have been proposed. Most of them are focusing on the anti-islanding performance of single PV system according to the related international and domestic standard test procedures. There are few studies on the islanding phenomenon for multiple photovoltaic operation in parallel. This paper presents performance analysis of anti-islanding function for grid-connected PV inverter systems when several PV inverters are connected in parallel.

  • This paper proposes active frequency drift (AFD) as an anti-islanding method applied to micro-inverters with uncontrollable reactive power. When using ordinary inverter topologies, such as full bridge inverters in photovoltaic systems, the islanding phenomenon can be detected with reactive power-based methods, such as reactive power variation. However, when the inverter topology cannot control the reactive power, conventional anti-islanding methods with reactive power cannot be utilized. In this work, the topology used in this paper cannot control the reactive power. Thus, an anti-islanding method that can be used in topologies that cannot control the reactive power is proposed. The conventional anti-islanding method of the topology that cannot control reactive power is introduced and analyzed. Unlike the conventional AFD method, the proposed method extends a zero current interval every predetermined cycle. The proposed method offers certain advantages over conventional AFD methods, such as total harmonic distortion. The proposed method is validated through simulation and experiment.

  • In this paper, the new Islanding detection method is studied for utility interactive photovoltaic system(UIPVS). It describes the brief of UIPV system and the features of islanding phenomenon. The new islanding detection method for improving the detection characteristics, HCIM(Harmonic Current Injection Method), is proposed and analyzed. The impedance curve of AC load is derived from the complex power equation for testing Islanding detection features. The proposed detection method and the derivation of islanding condition we verified by the simulation with ACSL and the laboratorial experiments.

  • Islanding phenomenon is undesirable because it lead to a safety hazard to utility service personnel and may cause damage to power generation and power supply facilities as a result of unsynchronized reclosure. In order to prevent this phenomenon, various anti-islanding methods have been studied. Even though the slip mode frequency shift (SMS) method has been regarded as a highly effective anti-islanding method, the analytical design method of that was not cleared. This paper proposes a modeling of the SMS method using non-detection zone (NDZ) and evaluation of the method according to the test conditions of IEEE Std. 929-2000. The SMS method is derived analytically through the modeling and verified visually by simulation and experiment.

  • This paper proposes a novel active frequency drift (AFD) method to improve the islanding detection performance with minimum current harmonics. To detect the islanding phenomenon of grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) inverters concerning the safety hazards and possible damage to other electric equipment, anti-islanding methods have been described. The AFD method that uses chopping fraction (cf) enables the islanding detection to drift up (or down) the frequency of the voltage during the islanding situation. However, the performance of the conventional AFD method is inefficient and causes difficulty in designing the appropriate cf value to meet the limit of harmonics. In this paper, the periodic chopping fraction based on a novel AFD method is proposed. This proposed method shows the analytical design value of cf to meet the test procedure of IEEE Std. 929-2000 with power quality and islanding detection time. To verify the validation of the proposed method, the islanding test results are presented. It is confirmed that the proposed method has not only less harmonic distortion but also better performance of islanding detection compared with the conventional AFD method.

  • Islanding is a phenomenon that EPS(Electric Power System) is continuously energized by PV PCS(Photovoltaic Power Conditioning System) even when EPS is isolated from the grid. Unintentional islanding will result in safety hazard, power quality degradation and many other issues. So, islanding protection of grid-connected PV PCS is a key function for standards compliance. Nowadays, many anti-islanding schemes are researched. But existing anti-islanding schemes used in PV PCS have power quality degradation and non-detection zone issues. This paper analyses not only detection performance of existed anti-islanding schemes using active frequency drift but also THD of PCS output current according to each value disturbance for anti-islanding. In addition, the lowest value of disturbance in each scheme was tabulated under guarantee of anti-islanding condition.

  • Islanding phenomenon of a grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) power conditioning system (PCS) is said to occur if the PCS continues to power a section of the utility system after that section has been disconnected from the utility source. Since islanding creates hazards for personnel and equipment, PCSs are required to detect and prevent Et. In this paper, several islanding detection methods (IDMs) and reactive power variation method are described. Islanding test results for 9kW PCS are presented for verification.
