  • A vacuum control system has been developed for using Ethernet Multi Serial Device Severs (EMSDS) for the Pohang Accelerator Laboratory (PAL) storage ring. There are 124 vacuum ion pumps at the storage ring. It was a very important problem to solve the problem how to control such a big number of vacuum pumps distributed around the ring. After discussions, we decided to develop a serial to ethernet interrace device sever that will be mounted in the control system rack. It has a 32-bits microprocessor embedded Linux, 12 ports RS485 (or RS232) slave interface. one channel 10/100BaseTx ethernet host port, one channel UART host port, and 16 Mbytes large memory buffer. These vacuum pumps are connected to Ion-Pump serial controllers, which chop the AC current so as to control the current in the pumps. The EMSDS connect either 100BaseTx or 10BaseT ethernet networks to asynchronous serial ports for communication with serial device. It can simultaneously control up to 12 ion-pump serial controllers. 12 EMSDS are connected to a personal computer (PC) through the network. The PC can automatically control the EMSDS by sending a set of commands through the TCP/IP network. Upon receiving a command from a PC running under Windows2000 through the network, the EMSDS communicate through the stave serial interrace ports to ion-pump controller. We added some software components on the top of EPICS (Experimental Physics and Industrial Control System) toolkit.

  • Tin-antimony sulfide nanocomposites were prepared via hydrothermal synthesis and a N2 reduction process for use as a negative electrode in a sodium ion battery. The electrochemical energy storage performance of the battery was analyzed according to the tin-antimony composition. The optimized sulfides exhibited superior charge/discharge capacity (770 mAh g-1 at a current density of 100 mA g-1) and stable lifespan characteristics (71.2 % after 200 cycles at a current density of 500 mA g-1). It exhibited a reversible characteristic, continuously participating in the charge-discharge process. The improved electrochemical energy storage performance and cycle stability was attributed to the small particle size, by controlling the composition of the tin-antimony sulfide. By optimizing the tin-antimony ratio during the synthesis process, it did not deviate from the solubility limit. Graphene oxide also acts to suppress volume expansion during reversible electrochemical reaction. Based on these results, tin-antimony sulfide is considered a promising anode material for a sodium ion battery used as a medium-to-large energy storage source.

  • Energy Storage System(ESS) have been developed to store and efficiently utilize energy, transitioning from the traditional method of producing and consuming energy immediately via fossil fuels and generators. With the advancement of this technology, Battery Management System(BMS) that manage Li-ion batteries at the cell level play a crucial role in enhancing battery performance, lifespan, and safety. Among the BMS functions, cell balancing, which aligns the imbalanced voltages of cells, is essential for optimizing capacity in devices like ESS. It ensures all cells maintain the same voltage and capacity, improving performance and output stability. Therefore, this paper examines the operational characteristics of the cell balancing method within BMS when charging an imbalanced Li-ion battery.

  • Spent ion-exchanged resin generated from various purification systems in CANDU reactor is causing concern due to a limited storage capacity and safe disposal. As a suggestion for a proper treatment technology for the spent ion-exchanged resin containing a high activity of C14 radionuclide which would be classified as Class A and C wastes, a fundamental study for the development of C-14 removal technology from a spent resin was performed. The adsorption characteristics of the inactive $HCO_3^-$ ion and other ions in a stripping solution on IRN-150 mixed resin was evaluated and the removal technology of the $HCO_3^-$ ion adsorbed on IRN-150 by an alkaline stripping method was proposed.

  • Lithium ion batteries have been widely adopted as energy storage and the LIB global market has grown fastest. However, LIB players have struggled against maximizing energy density since commercial monolithic electrodes are limited by electrolyte depletion caused by long and tortuous Li-ion diffusion pathways. Recently, new strategies designing the structure of battery electrodes strive for creating fast Li-ion path and alleviating electrolyte depletion problem in monolithic electrodes. In this paper, given the fundamental and experimental approaches, we compare the monolithic to structured electrodes and demonstrate the ways to fabricate high energy, fast chargeable Lithium ion battery.

  • Although lithium-ion batteries are currently the most reliable power supply system for various mobile applications, further improvement in energy density is still required as the need for batteries in large energy-consuming devices is rapidly growing. However, in the anode, the most widely commercialized graphite-based anode materials almost face theoretical limitations. In addition, sodium-ion batteries have been actively studied to replace expensive charge carriers with cheaper ones. Accordingly, conversion-based materials have been extensively studied as high-capacity anode materials in both lithiumion batteries and sodium-ion batteries because their theoretical capacity is twice or thrice higher than that of insertion-based materials. This review will provide a comprehensive understanding of conversion-based materials, including basic charge storage behaviors, critical drawbacks that should be overcome, and practical material design for high-performance.

  • Objective: To evaluate the effects of L-lysine (Lys)/L-arginine (Arg) on lipid and protein oxidation of emulsion sausage during storage and its possible mechanism. Methods: Four samples were prepared based on the presence or absence of additional sodium isoascorbate, Lys, or Arg: sample A (control), sample B (0.05 g of sodium isoascorbate), sample C (0.4 g of Lys), and sample D (0.4 g of Arg). Peroxide value (POV), thiobarbituric reactive substances (TBARS), protein carbonyls and thiols were measured. 2,2-Diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and hydroxyl radical-scavenging, ferrous ion-chelating ability were also measured. Results: Compared with the control, the sample treated with sodium isoascorbate, Lys or Arg had significantly lower POV during the initial 20 days, TBARS during the initial 15 days. Protein carbonyls were significantly lower compared Sample B, C, and D with A during the later storage (10 to 25 days); basically, protein thiols became lower during storage when the samples were treated with sodium isoascorbate, Lys, or Arg. Both Lys and Arg had weak reducing power but strong ferrous ion-chelating activity and DPPH radical- and hydroxyl radical-scavenging activity. Conclusion: Both Lys and Arg effectively inhibited the oxidation of lipids and proteins in emulsion sausage by scavenging free radicals and chelating ferrous ions. The results obtained may be favorable for the prevention of lipid and protein oxidation during processing and storage of meat products.

  • This paper presents a new overall system for state-of-available-power (SoAP) prediction for a lithium-ion battery pack. The essential part of this method is based on an adaptive network architecture which utilizes both fuzzy model (FIS) and artificial neural network (ANN) into the framework of adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS). While battery aging proceeds, the system is capable of delivering accurate power prediction not only for room temperature, but also at lower temperatures at which power prediction is most challenging. Due to design property of ANN, the network parameters are adapted on-line to the current battery states (state-of-charge (SoC), state-of-health (SoH), temperature). SoC is required as an input parameter to SoAP module and high accuracy is crucial for a reliable on-line adaptation. Therefore, a reasonable way to determine the battery state variables is proposed applying a combination of several partly different algorithms. Among other SoC boundary estimation methods, robust extended Kalman filter (REKF) for recalibration of amp hour counters was implemented. ANFIS then achieves the SoAP estimation by means of time forward voltage prognosis (TFVP) before a power pulse occurs. The trade-off between computational cost of batch-learning and accuracy during on-line adaptation was optimized resulting in a real-time system with TFVP absolute error less than 1%. The verification was performed on a software-in-the-loop test bench setup using a 53 Ah lithium-ion cell.
