  • The purpose of this study is to suggest the model of supporting decision making and the method of evaluating criteria and alternatives by value judgement and to apply the model and method suggested to the case of the University Student's housing choice. The criteria and alternatives are evaluated in terms of intuitive judgement and the Analytic Hierarchy Process(AHP). The university students of the Daegu Metropolitan area consider the socioeconomic and environmental factors more important than the characteristics of housing to evaluate their future housing types. In terms of the student's intuitive judgement, socio-educational environment, accessibility, economy, natural environment, and the characteristics of housing are considered in order as an important criteria of evaluating housing. The orders of the important criteria done by an intuitive judgement and the AHP are different. In terms of the AHP, apartment, detached dwelling, and row house are preferred in order as the student's future housing types. The orders of preferred housing types are, however, dynamically changed based on specific criteria. In sum, the model of decision making and the method of evaluating criteria and alternatives by value judgement will be applied to the real problems defined by uncertainty and high risk.

  • Researchers have suggested that students should be experienced in progress of geometric thinking set out in naive and intuitive level and deduced throughout gradual formalization rather than completed mathematics are conveyed to students for students' understanding. This study examined naive and intuitive thinking of students by investigating students' geometric problem solving without diagrams. The students showed these naive thinking: lack of recognition of relation between problem and conditions, use of intuitive judgement depending on diagrams, lacking in understanding of role of specific case, and use of unjustified assumption. This study suggests implication for instruction in geometry.

  • In the descriptive studies investigating people's risk taking behavior, the most used experimental technique has been the simple lotteries which consist of only no possible outcomes. However, these simple lotteries cannot always be an appropriate representation of the real world decision-making situations, where three or more possible outcomes are frequently encountered. The purpose of the present study is to investigate people's risk attitude in various multi-branch lottery games.

  • Categorization in a vital means for dealing with the multitudes of entities in the world surrounding people. Among others, the perceptual and the evaluative similarities factors strongly affect categorization. The conventional SD-type procedure are insufficient in this regard, since it requires an individual subject to make isolated judgments about each stimulus to identify categorization in terms of a group tendency. It disregards the individual categorization in which the similarities are of great importance. Thus in this study the phased emotional evaluation method is suggested based on the intuitive categorization of stimuli and on the similarity judgement of representative/ non-representative case in each category. To verify the effectiveness of the suggested evaluation method the scanned jewelry images are selected as test stimuli for emotional evaluation experiment. As a result of the evaluation experiment, the conventional SD-type procedure is complemented by the emotional evaluation method in phases of the task of intuitive categorization, the selection of the representative images and the setup of the evaluation score of the representative images to internally supplied anchors of evaluating non-representative images.

  • Mix-used development in urban renewal project is done to effectively utilize the limited downtown. Generally unlike a single project, It features placing a large number of different facilities(residential, commercial, business, cultural, etc.) which is each other organically linked. The purpose of this study is to suggest the method of modeling guide for 3D preliminary cost estimation considering visual and intuitive judgement of space in mix-used development Urban Renewal project. In this research, introducing SME(Standard Module and Element) breakdown structure, FID(Finish Identity) for estimating building space unit-based quantity take off was implemented. It could narrow the discrepancy of opinion between the stakeholders with more accurate cost-estimates, comparing to the traditional methods.

  • The purpose of this study is to present the rational decision process for new ward office building site. AHP Technique used in this study considers both quantitative and qualitative factors on the basis of decision maker's intuitive, reasonable or unreasonable judgement by giving weight through mutual comparision of publicity factors. The evaluaion factors were refer to another five ward office there were executed these kinds of new site selection before. These standards are composed of 6 middle groups and classified into 9 detailed standards. Alternative building sites are five places in this district. The final evauation standards are Accessibility, Urban Expansion Possibility. Distrct balance, Environment, Financing. Development easiness. And It became clear that the priority of evaluation is Financing > Urban expansion > Accessibility > Development easiness > District balance > Environment. In conclusion, it was determined that alternative " E " is the most adequate place for new ward office building.

  • While the international construction industry for Korean companies have grown in market size exponentially in the recent years, the profit rate of small and medium sized construction companies (SMCCs) are incomparably lower than those of large construction companies. Furthermore, small and medium size companies, especially subcontractor, lacks the judgement of project involvement appropriateness, which leads to an unpredictable profit rate. Therefore, this research aims to create a profit rate prediction model for the international construction project focusing on SMCCs. First, the factors that influence the profit rate and the area of profit zone are defined by using a total of 8,637 projects since the year 1965. Seconds, an extensive literature review is conducted to derive 10 influencing factors. Multiple regression analysis and corresponding judgement technique are used to derive the weight of each factor. Third, cased based reasoning (CBR) methodology is applied to develop the model for profit rate analysis in the project participation review stage. Using 120 validation data set, the developed model showed 11% (14 data sets) of error rate for type 1 and type 2 error. In utilizing the result, project decision makers are able to make decision based on authentic results instead of intuitive based decisions. The model additionally give guidance to the Korean subcontractors when advancing into the international construction based on the model result that shows the profit distribution and checks in advance for the quality of the project to secure a sound profit in each project.

  • Advertisement is a creation. However, it is not a sort of self-sufficient creation as can be found in the fine arts that start from and end with an artist's personal sense but an inter-subjective creation formed from the dose relationship between the inner senses of other persons as social factor and the meanings of symbols. In this respect, how to systematically express the cultural aspects seen from the convergence of 'words' and ‘images' that are coexisting within the ads expression depends on the inter-subjective mutual sensitivity between ads creator and consumer. Therefore, it is assumed that the quality of impact the ads expression has is not a personal sense of ads creator based on a consumer survey but an intuitive judgement made by both of them who share their lifestyles. In conclusion, the finding of the quality of impact of ads expression through the lifestyle of ads creator is to make sure that, by directly applying the lifestyle exposed from within the prerequisites of customer to that of ads creator, the inter-subjective ads creation needs to be formulated.

  • Background: In the absence of clear guidelines for facial aesthetic surgery, most surgeons rely on expert intuitive judgement when planning aesthetic and reconstructive surgery. One of the most famous theories regarding "ideal" facial proportions is that of the golden proportion. However, there are conflicting opinions as to whether it can be used to assess facial attractiveness. The aim of this investigation was to assess facial ratios of professional black models and to compare the ratios with the golden proportion. Methods: Forty photographs of male and female professional black models were collected. Observers were asked to assign a score from 1 to 10 (1 = not very attractive, 10 = very attractive). A total of 287 responses were analysed for grading behaviour according to various demographic factors by two groups of observers. The best graded photographs were compared with the least well-graded photographs to identify any differences in their facial ratios. The models' facial ratios were calculated and compared with the golden proportion. Results: Differences in grading behaviour were observed amongst the two assessment groups. Only one out of the 12 facial ratios was not significantly different from the golden proportion. Conclusions: Only one facial ratio was observed to be similar to the golden proportion in professional model facial photographs. No correlation was found between facial ratios in professional black models with the golden proportion. It is proposed that an individualistic treatment for each ratio is a rather better method to guide future practice.

  • Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) of critical infrastructure comprises a major pillar of maintenance management, shielding public safety and economic sustainability. Although SHM is usually associated with data-driven metrics and thresholds, expert judgement is essential, especially in cases where erroneous predictions can bear casualties or substantial economic loss. Considering that visual inspections are time consuming and potentially subjective, artificial-intelligence tools may be leveraged in order to minimize the inspection effort and provide objective outcomes. In this context, timely detection of sensor malfunctioning is crucial in preventing inaccurate assessment and false alarms. The present work introduces a sensor-fault detection and interpretation framework, based on the well-established support-vector machine scheme for anomaly detection, combined with a coalitional game-theory approach. The proposed framework is implemented in two datasets, provided along the 1st International Project Competition for Structural Health Monitoring (IPC-SHM 2020), comprising acceleration and cable-load measurements from two real cable-stayed bridges. The results demonstrate good predictive performance and highlight the potential for seamless adaption of the algorithm to intrinsically different data domains. For the first time, the term "decision trajectories", originating from the field of cognitive sciences, is introduced and applied in the context of SHM. This provides an intuitive and comprehensive illustration of the impact of individual features, along with an elaboration on feature dependencies that drive individual model predictions. Overall, the proposed framework provides an easy-to-train, application-agnostic and interpretable anomaly detector, which can be integrated into the preprocessing part of various SHM and condition-monitoring applications, offering a first screening of the sensor health prior to further analysis.
