The orientation of the constituent molecules in organic thin film devices can affect significantly their performance due to the highly anisotropic nature of ${\pi}$-conjugated molecules. We report here an angle dependent x-ray absorption study of the control of such molecular orientation using well-ordered interlayers for the case of a bilayer heterojunction of chloroaluminum phthalocyanine (ClAlPc) and C60. Furthermore, the orientation-dependent energy level alignment of the same bilayer heterojunction has been measured in detail using synchrotron radiation-excited photoelectron spectroscopy. Regardless of the orientation of the organic interlayer, we find that the subsequent ClAlPc tilt angle improves the ${\pi}-{\pi}$ interaction at the interface, thus leading to an improved short-circuit current in photovoltaic devices based on ClAlPc/C60. The use of the interlayers does not change the effective band gap at the ClAlPc/C60 heterointerface, resulting in no change in open-circuit voltage.

Titanium nitride (TiN) coatings were produced on AISI 420 stainless steel by DC magnetron sputtering of a Ti target changing the processing variables, such as the flow rate of $N_2/Ar$, substrate temperature and the existence of Ti interlayer between TiN coatings and substrates. The hardness and residual stress in the films were investigated using nanoindentation and a laser scanning device, respectively. The stoichiometry and surface morphology were investigated using X-Ray Diffraction and SEM. The corrosion property of the films was also studied using a polarization method in NaCl (0.9%) solution. Mechanical properties including hardness and residual stress were related to the ratio of $N_2/Ar$ flow rate. The corrosion resistance also was related to the processing variables.
We studied the electrical characteristics of low-k SiOCR interlayer dielectric(ILD) films fabricated by plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD). The precursor bis-trimethylsilylmethane (BTMSM) was introduced into the reaction chamber with the various flow rates. The absorption intensities of Si-O-$CH_x$, bonding group and Si-$CH_x$, bonding group changed synchronously for the variation of precursor flow rate, but the intensity of Si-O-Si(C) responded asynchronously with the $CH_x$, combined bonds. The SiOCH films revealed ultra low dielectric constant around 2.1(1) and reduced further below 2.0 by heat treatments.

We report the current transport properties of a normal metal/organic conductor/ superconductor tunnel junction as a novel high- $T_{c}$ superconducting three terminal device. The organic copper (II) phthalocyanine (Cu-Pc) layer was used far a polaronic quasiparticle (QP) injector. The injection of polaronic QP from the Cu-Pc interlayer into a superconductor $Bi_2$$Sr_2$$CaCu_2$$O_{8+}$$\delta$/(BSCCO) thin film generated a substantially larger nonequilibrium effect as compared to the normal QP injection current. The tunneling spectroscopy of an Au/cu-PC/BSCCO junction exhibited a zero bias conductance peak which may be due to Andreev reflection at a Cu-Pc/d-wave superconductor junction.n..
As device dimensions approach submicrometer size in ULSI, the demand for interlayer dielectric materials with very low dielectric constant is increased to solve problems of RC delay caused by increase in parasitic resistance and capacitance in multilevel interconnectins. Fluorinated amorphous carbon in one of the promising materials in ULSI for the interlayer dielectric films with low dielectric constant. However, poor thermal stability and adhesion with Si substrates have inhibited its use. Recently, amorphous hydrogenated carbon (a-C:H) film as a buffer layer between the Si substrate and a-C:F has been introduced because it improves the adhesion with Si substrate. In this study, therfore, a-C:F/a-C:H films were deposited on p-type Si(100) by ECRCVD from $C_2F_6, CH_4$and $H_2$gas source and investigated the effect of forward power and composition on the thickness, chemical bonding state, dielectric constant, surface morphology and roughness of a-C:F films as an interlayer dielectric for ULSI. SEM, FT-IR, XPS, C-V meter and AFM were used for determination of each properties. The dielectric constant in the a-C:F/a-C:H films were found to decrease with increasing fluorine content. However, the dielectric constant increased after furnace annealing in $N_2$atomosphere at $400^{\circ}C$ for 1hour due to decreasing of flurorine content. However, the dielectric constant increased after furnace annealing in $N_2$atmosphere at $400^{\circ}C$ for 1hour due to decreasing of fluorine concentration.
We have investigated the physical and diffusion barrier property of Ti-Si-N film for Cu metallization. The ternary compound was deposited by using reactive rf magnetron sputtering of a TiSi$_2$target in an Ar/$N_2$gas mixture. Resistivities of the films were in range of 358$\mu$$\Omega$-cm, to 307941$\mu$$\Omega$-cm, and tended to increase with increasing the $N_2$/Ar flow rate ratio. The crystallization of the Ti-Si-N compound started to occur at 100$0^{\circ}C$ with the phases of TiN and Si$_3$N$_4$identified by using XRD(X-ray Diffractometer). The degree of the crystallization was influenced by the $N_2$/Ar flow ratio. The diffusion barrier property of Ti-Si-N film for Cu metallization was determined by AES, XRD and etch pit by secco etching, revealing the failure temperature of 90$0^{\circ}C$ in 43~45at% of nitrogen content. In addition, the very thin compound (10nm) with 43~45at% nitrogen content remained stable up to $700^{\circ}C$. Furthermore, thermal treatment in vacuum at $600^{\circ}C$ improved the barrier property of the Ti-Si-N film deposited at the $N_2$(Ar+$N_2$) ratio of 0.05. The addition of Ti interlayer between Ti-Si-N films caused the drastic decrease of the resistivity with slight degradation of diffusion barrier properties of the compound.
Various two-dimensional nano materials such as graphene, zeolite, and metal-organic framework have been utilized to develop an ultra-thin high-performance membrane for water purification, gas separation, and so on. Particularly, in the case of graphene oxide, synthesis methods and thin film coating techniques have been accumulated and established since early 2000s, therefore graphene oxide has been rapidly applied to membrane field. The multi-layered graphene oxide thin film can filter molecules separately by the molecular sieving of interlayer spacing between adjacent layers, and it is also possible to separate various materials depending on the surface functional groups or the degree of interaction to intercalated materials. This review mainly focuses on the nanofiltration application of graphene oxide. The major factors affecting the separation performance of graphene oxide membrane in solvent are summarized and other technical elements required for the commercialization of graphene oxide membranes will be discussed including stability issue and fabrication method.

Plasma polymerized organic thin films were deposited on Si(100) glass and Copper substrates at 25 ∼ 100 $^{\circ}C$ using cyclohexane and ethylcyclohexane precursors by PECVD method. In order to compare physical and electrochemical properties of the as-grown thin films, the effects of the RF plasma power in the range of 20∼50 W and deposition temperature on both corrosion protection efficiency and physical properties were studied. We found that the corrosion protection efficiency (P$\_$k/), which is one of the important factors for corrosion protection in the interlayer dielectrics of microelectronic devices application, was increased with increasing RF power. The highest P$\_$k/ value of plasma polymerized ethylcyclohexane film (92.1% at 50 W) was higher than that of the plasma polymerized cyclohexane film (85.26% at 50 W), indicating inhibition of oxygen reduction. Impedance analyzer was utilized for the determination of I-V curve for leakage current density and C-V for dielectric constants. To obtain C-V curve, we used a MIM structure of metal(Al)-insulator(plasma polymerized thin film)-metal(Pt) structure. Al as the electrode was evaporated on the ethylcyclohexane films that grew on Pt coated silicon substrates, and the dielectric constants of the as-grown films were then calculated from C-V data measured at 1㎒. From the electrical property measurements such as I-V ana C-V characteristics, the minimum dielectric constant and the best leakage current of ethylcyclohexane thin films were obtained to be about 3.11 and 5 ${\times}$ 10$\^$-12/ A/$\textrm{cm}^2$ and cyclohexane thin films were obtained to be about 2.3 and 8 ${\times}$ 10$\^$-12/ A/$\textrm{cm}^2$.
In this work, novel thin film composite (TFC) forward osmosis (FO) membranes are developed via interfacial polymerization on the polysulfone (PS) substrate, using TEOS as the a sol-gel reagent to form hydrophilic interlayer polymer between PS and polyamide (PA). The PS substrate was cast on a very thin polyester nonwoven to reduce membrane resistance. With the incorporation of TEOS (tetraethoxy silane) polymer in the interface between PS and PA, the formed TFC FO membrane exhibits better hydrophilicity and improved water flux, and therefore superior membrane performance. By changing the polymerization sequence of PA interfacial polymerization and TEOS sol-gel condensation, the surface properties and performance of FO membranes are changed significantly. The permeability of FO membranes were estimated using the bench-scale FO test equipment. The distribution of the polysiloxane on composite membrane and morphology are also studied with FE-SEM and EDAX. The PS_PA_TEOS membrane showed highly enhanced water flux (79.2 LMH) but reverse salt flux (RSF) value (7.10 GMH) also increased. However, the flux of PS_TEOS_PA membrane increased moderately (54.1 LMH) without increasing RSF value (1.60 GMH) compare with PS_PA membrane.

Vacuum deposited 4,4',4"-tris(N-(2-naphthyl)-N-phenylamino)-triphenylamine (2-TNATA), used as a hole injection (HIL) material in OLEDs, is placed as a thin interlayer between indium tin oxide (ITO) electrode and a hole transporting layer (HTL) in the devices. C60-doped 2-TNATA:C60 (20 wt%) film was formed via co-evaporation process and molecular ordering and topology of 2-TNATA:C60 films were investigated using XRD and AFM. The J-V, L-V and current efficiency of multi-layered devices were characterized as well. Vacuum-deposited C60 film was molecularly oriented, but neither was 2-TNATA:C60 film due to the uniform dispersion of C60 molecules in the film. By using C60-doped 2-TNATA:C60 film as a HIL, the current density and luminance of a multi-layered ITO/2-TNATA:C60/NPD/$Alq_3$/LiF/Al device were significantly increased and the current efficiency of the device was increased from 4.7 to 6.7 cd/A in the present study.
