The Development of Instruction Model for SW Education using the Minecraft Platform (마인크래프트 플랫폼을 이용한 소프트웨어교육 교수학습 모형)

  • Minecraft game is a sandboxed game based on a high degree of users' freedom; the game encourages its users to recreate various play patterns to increase their immersion. Although recently there were many studies that use Minecraft game techniques to improve the teaching methods but still not well adapted due to being applications-based techniques. In this paper, we present a teaching model that utilizes the same concept of the Minecraft games in where learners customize the class concepts based on their needs. Moreover, Minecraft-based learning games attempt to be used for learner-led, creativity and programming instruction, to overcome these use-cases limitations, by our study we aim to include the Minecraft-based learning games in class teaching activities, theoretical and practical lessons. In this way, we intend to increase interest in programming lessons, and to increase immersion as another way of game learning. In the future, we attempt to measure various effects of the uses of Minecraft-game-based teaching in programming classes compare to the traditionally used methods.

Design and implementation of an AI-based speed quiz content for social robots interacting with users (사람과 상호작용하는 소셜 로봇을 위한 인공지능 기반 스피드 퀴즈 콘텐츠의 설계와 구현)

  • In this paper, we propose a design and implementation method of speed quiz content that can be driven by a social robot capable of interacting with humans, and a method of developing an intelligent module necessary for implementation. In addition, we propose a method of implementing speed quiz content through the process of constructing a map by arranging and connecting intelligent module blocks. Recently, software education has become mandatory and interest in programming is increasing. However, programming is difficult for students without basic knowledge of programming languages to directly access, and interest in block-type programming platforms suitable for beginners is growing. The block-type programming platform used in this paper is a platform that supports immediate and intuitive programming by supporting interactions between humans and robots. In this paper, the intelligent module implemented for the speed quiz content was used by blocking it within a block-type programming platform. In order to implement the scenario of the speed quiz content proposed in this paper, we implement a total of three image-based artificial intelligence modules. In addition to the intelligent module, various functional blocks were placed to implement the speed quiz content. In this paper, we propose a method of designing a speed quiz content scenario and a method of implementing an intelligent module for speed quiz content.

The Mediating Effect of Learning Flow on Learning Engagement, and Teaching Presence in Online programming classes (온라인 프로그래밍 수업에서 자기조절능력과 학습참여, 교수실재감에 대한 학습몰입의 매개 효과)

  • Recently, as students' programming classes are being conducted online, interest in factors that can lead to the success of online programming classes is also increasing. Therefore, in this study, online programming classes were conducted for specialized high school students using a web-based simulation programming tool through TinkerCad. In these online programming classes, students' self-regulation ability and learning flow were set as variables that influence both learning engagement and teaching presence, and the predictive power of each was analyzed. As a result, it was found that both self-regulation ability and learning flow were predictive variables for learning engagement and teaching presence, and that learning flow played a mediating role between self-regulation ability, learning engagement, and teaching presence. This study is meaningful in that it suggested that self-regulation ability and learning flow should be considered more meaningfully in online programming classes, and a practical strategy for this is presented.

Trajectory Planning of Satellite Formation Flying using Nonlinear Programming and Collocation

  • Recently, satellite formation flying has been a topic of significant research interest in aerospace society because it provides potential benefits compared to a large spacecraft. Some techniques have been proposed to design optimal formation trajectories minimizing fuel consumption in the process of formation configuration or reconfiguration. In this study, a method is introduced to build fuel-optimal trajectories minimizing a cost function that combines the total fuel consumption of all satellites and assignment of fuel consumption rate for each satellite. This approach is based on collocation and nonlinear programming to solve constraints for collision avoidance and the final configuration. New constraints of nonlinear equality or inequality are derived for final configuration, and nonlinear inequality constraints are established for collision avoidance. The final configuration constraints are that three or more satellites should form a projected circular orbit and make an equilateral polygon in the horizontal plane. Example scenarios, including these constraints and the cost function, are simulated by the method to generate optimal trajectories for the formation configuration and reconfiguration of multiple satellites.

Development and Application of Educational Contents for Entry Programming to Improve Metacognition (메타인지 향상을 위한 엔트리 프로그래밍 교육 콘텐츠 개발 및 적용)

  • The purpose of this study is to develop and validate the effects of the software education contents for enhancing metacognition of the cognitive issues that improve the creative problem solving ability. The experimental group was taught by entry programming class using the software education contents developed in this study while the control group was taught by traditional method for entry programming. To confirm the changes of two groups, metacognitive post t-test was performed and compared with pre t-test results. The analysis result of the post t-test showed the following: There are statistically significant differences between the experimental group and the control group at a significance level of 0.05 for the interest of the experimental group. Therefore it was confirmed that the programming classes using software contents is effective in improving the metacognition of students.

Exploring of Collaborative Strategy for Pre-service Teacher's Block-based Programming Education (예비교사의 블록 기반 프로그래밍 교육을 위한 협업전략 탐구)

  • Team-based programming methods are widely applied to solve various difficulties that pre-service teachers experience in the programming lessons. To prepare effective collaboration strategies necessary for them, it is necessary to analyze various collaborative factors that affect learners' programming competencies. Therefore, in this article, a questionnaire survey was conducted by dividing learners' collaboration factors into individual and team competencies, and the relationship between learners' programming competencies was analyzed. As a result of the verification, the program design competency showed significant results in all elements of the learner's personal competency, team techniques such as data sharing skills necessary for collaboration, and team collaboration. It was analyzed that an individual's understanding of learning and team collaboration influenced the program implementation competency. In addition, the group with relatively high team technique showed significant differences in programming competence, interest, and satisfaction. Accordingly, by linking meaningful factors related to individual and team competencies according to the programming process, a collaborative strategy practically necessary for pre-service teachers was suggested.

A Study on the Instructional Model utilizing Scratch for Introductory Programming Classes of SW-Major Students (SW전공자 프로그래밍 입문 수업의 스크래치 활용 수업 모형 연구)

  • The programming language is a core education area of software that is becoming increasingly important in the age of the fourth industrial revolution, but it requires mathematical knowledge and logical thinking skills, so that many local private university and college students with low basic skills are having difficulties learning it. This problem occasionally causes SW-major students to lose interest and confidence in their majors during the introductory course of programming languages; making them change their majors, or give up their studies. In this study, we designed an instructional model using Scratch for educating C-language which is a typical programming introductory language. To do this, we analyzed the concepts that can be trained by Scratch among the programming concepts supported by C-language, and developed the examples of Scratch for exercising the concepts. In addition, we designed an instructional model, by which the programming concepts are first learned through Scratch and then C-language is taught, and conducted an experiment on the SW-major freshman students of a local private university to verify the effectiveness of the model. In the situation where SW education is becoming common, we expect that this study will help programming language education of security IT students.

  • The programming education in K-12 field is processing with conceptual approaches to obtain basic grammar not including higher knowledge processing. This is main reason that can't able to obtain the educational effects. This study aims to research the innovated methodology of programming education which can have educational effect by participating of learners with positive interest, and recognize the effect of the Scratch programming education on elementary school student's learning-flow and programming ability. As a result Scratch programming education has effect on elementary school student's improving the level of learning-flow and the programming ability.

BomBart : Web-based Programming Environment Support to Graphic User Interface (그래픽 유저 인터페이스를 지원하는 웹 기반 프로그래밍 환경 '봄밭'의 설계 및 구현)

  • There has been a growing interest in programming education recently. However, to use most programming languages the corresponding compiler and IDE have to be installed on computers. To tackle this issue, though there developed several web-based programming environment including Eclipse Che and JDOODLE, most of them does not support GUI nor Korean programming languages. This paper proposes a web-based programming environment called Bombart, which supports Saesark, a Korean programming language, with GUI output. It also supports a console-based input and output. To support both kinds of interfaces, two compiling subsystems are designed and implemented. To test the effectiveness of the GUI support of Bombart, all the Java tutorial codes on GUI are translated into Saesark and executed on top of Bombart. According to this test, 81.42% of codes can be successfully converted and executed.

  • The purpose of this study is to ermine the effect of digital storytelling as a strategy of programming education to improve students' learning motivation and achievement. To overcome the difficulty of programming education in elementary school and find teaching method which derives the students' motivation, we used a digital storytelling in programming class. Digital storytelling that is considered as an important factor of edutainment gives interest to learners with interaction and stories for programming materials. The result is that elementary school students are more interested in programming and attend actively and their motivation and achievement is improved. Therefore it can gives elementary school students a positive experience with programming that will hopefully contribute to a more positive attitude towards computer science.
