Development of the High Power Battery Charging System for Portable Energy Banks (이동식 에너지 뱅크용 대용량 배터리 충전 시스템의 개발)

  • Batteries are widely used for energy storage, such as ESS(Energy Storage System), electric vehicles, electric aircraft, and electric powered ships. Among them, a submarine uses a high power battery for an energy storage. When the battery of a submarine is discharged, a diesel generator generates AC power, and then AC/DC power converter change AC power to DC power for charging the battery. Therefore, in order to lower the current capacity of the diesel generator, it is necessary to use an AC/DC converter with a high input power factor. And, a power converter with a large power capacity must have high stability because it can lead to a major accident when a failure occurs. However, the control algorithm using the traditional PI controller is difficult to satisfy stability and dynamic characteristics. In this paper, we design the high power AC/DC converter with high input power factor for battery charging systems. And, we propose a stable control algorithm. The validity of the proposed method is verified through simulation and experiments.

Minimum-Time Guidance and Control Law for High Maneuvering Missile

  • This paper deals with design procedure of online guidance and control law for future missiles that requires agile maneuverability. For the purpose, the missile with high powered side thruster is proposed. The guidance and control law for such missiles is discussed from a point of view of optimal control theory in this paper. Minimum time problem is solved for the approximated system. It is derived that bang- bang control is optimal input from the necessary conditions of optimal solution. Feedback guidance without iterative calculation is useful for actual systems. In this paper. multiple design point method is applied to design feedback gains and feed forward inputs of the guidance and control law. The numerical results show that the proposed guidance and control law has a high -performance for wide-ranging boundary conditions.

A Study on Clutch-disc Torsional Characteristic for aTorsional Vibration Reduction at Idling (공회전시 비틀림진동 저감을 위한 클러치 비틀림 특성 연구)

  • The flucturation of the engine torque appears to be the major source of the torsional vibration of the automotive driveline. The reduction of this torsional vibration has become a significant problem, due to an increase in the flucturation of the torque of recent light weighted powered engines, along with the requirements of higher performance. The torsional vibration of the automotive driveline can be reduced by soothing the fluctuation by adjusting the torsional characteristics of the clutch-disc. Computer simulation of the engine- input gear train is a useful investigative tool on studying the torsional characteristics of the clutch-disc. In this paper, a dynamic model for the automotive driveline was developed, and the engine torque and drag torque of the model were evaluated withe experimental data. By executing a simulation using the model, it has become possible to obtain the clutch-disc torsional characteristics when the engine is idling and the clucth-disc torsional characteristics for reducing the torsional vibration has been suggested.

  • To realize GIS on internet two methods are possible. One is using java language and the other is using window API that interface with internet WWW HTTP protocol. GIS program needs to extract, classify, store in various geospatial data. But WWW HTML are statical and Impossible to input multi points and area selectioning.   • The pantograph-catenary system is one of important components for high-speed rail system that are powered electrically. Electrical power is delivered from a catenary structure to the train via a pantograph and thus it is very important to regulate the contact force between catenary and pantograph. Although a lot of research results for active pantograph have been reported, most of them have made an unrealistic assumption that the catenary displacement is constant with respect to the time. In this paper, we present a new pantograph model that regards the catenary displacement as an unknown disturbance input. Moreover, a disturbance observer based controller is proposed to remove the effect of disturbance, i.e., the catenary displacement variation. The computer simulation result shows that the substantial improvement in regulating the contact force can be achieved by the proposed controller.

A Study on Off-Gas Treatment of an Air Stripping Tower Using a Plasma Reactor

  • An evaluation of a plasma reactor was conducted to investigate its potential as a feasible and economical off-gas control technology for an air stripping tower (AST). The plasma reactor was powered by an alternating current with frequencies up to 1000Hz. The study showed that over 90% conversion of gas-phase trichloroethylene (TCE) can be achieved. An optimum frequency for the laternating current existed for maximum power input. The optimum frequency was dependent on the reactor geometry and the primary voltage applied. for a fixed geometry, a plasma reactor has a limited capacity for flow rate. Even though it is a feasible process to control off-gases, further investigations should be conducted to develop a more economic process.

  • This paper presents a compact and portable high-voltage generator based on magnetic-core Tesla transformer for driving an UWB high power electromagnetic source. In order to optimize the performance of the high-voltage generator, a novel open-loop cylindrical magnetic-core adopting the quad-division lamination structure is proposed and manufactured. The designed high-voltage generator using the proposed magnetic core has a battery-powered operation and compact size of $280mm{\times}150mm$ in length and diameter, respectively. The high-voltage generator can produce a voltage pulse waveform with peak amplitude of 450 kV, a rise time of 1.5 ns, and pulse duration of 2.5 ns at the 800 V input voltage.

  • The HVAC(Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning) system is only controlled by turn on/turn off operations against to AC 380V input. Therefore, the efficiency of the system is reduced and noise occurs. Also, the blower is shut down at the AC power failure. In this paper, the inverter system with UPS function for the A/C(Air Conditioning) blower is proposed. Proposed inverter system which is powered from the AC and DC voltage can control speed, operation mode, and soft-start time using CAN communication. In case of the CAN communication failure, RS-232 communication could be used to control the hardware directly by the engineer that can solve existing problems. To verify the validity of proposed inverter system, simulations and experiments are carried out.

  • Artificial intelligence (AI) powered by deep learning (DL) has shown remarkable progress in image recognition tasks. Over the past decade, AI has proven its feasibility for applications in medical imaging. Various aspects of clinical practice in neuroimaging can be improved with the help of AI. For example, AI can aid in detecting brain metastases, predicting treatment response of brain tumors, generating a parametric map of dynamic contrast-enhanced MRI, and enhancing radiomics research by extracting salient features from input images. In addition, image quality can be improved via AI-based image reconstruction or motion artifact reduction. In this review, we summarize recent clinical applications of DL in various aspects of neuroimaging.

Triboelectric Shaker: Fabrication and Characterization of Maracas-Type Generators (마찰전기 셰이커: 전기 발생 마라카스 제작 및 특성평가)

  • Triboelectric devices are attracting attention from researchers as self-powered electronic systems that can instantly convert mechanical input into electrical energy output. To improve triboelectric energy harvesting performance, increasing the number of contacts as well as the contact area has been carried out by numerous researchers. In this study, we design a shaker-type energy harvester which is called as maracas triboelectric generator (M-TEG), inspired by the structure of maracas, one of the musical percussion instruments. A tripod frame is inserted to the inside of a cylindrical case, which is a device with the electrodes of aluminum and copper. Then, the triboelectric energy harvesting characteristics between polypropylene (PP) balls and the electrodes are measured. The M-TEG with the frame generates the energy harvesting signals up to ~100 V and ~2.5 ㎂ due to larger contact area and numbers, which enhances the voltage and current output by 250% and 610% compared to that without the frame, respectively. This study presents the feasibility of self-powered sensors and toys using improved triboelectric energy performance with a low-cost and simple manufacturing process in the interesting structure.
