  • N+NPP+ HLEBSF (high low emitter back surface field) solar cells which have N+N high low junction in the emitter as well as N+PP+ BSF cells were designed and fabricated by using <111> oriented P type Si wafers with the resistivity of 10$\Omega$/$\textrm{cm}^2$ and the thickness of 13-15 mil. Physical parameters (impurity concentration, thickness) at each region of N+PP+ and N+NPP+ cell were made equally through same masks and simultaneous process except N region of HLEBSF cell to investigate the high low emitter junction effect for efficiency improvement. Under the light intensity of 100 mW/$\textrm{cm}^2$, total area (active area) conversion efficiency were typically 10.94% (12.16%) for N+PP+ BSF cells and 12.07% (13.41%) for N+N PP+ cells. Efficiency improvement of N+NPP+ cell which has high low emitter Junction structure is resulted from the suppression of emitter recombination current and the increasement of open circuit voltage (Voc) and short circuit current (Ish) by removing heavy doping effects occurring in N+ emitter region.

  • A comparative analysis of quantum-mechanical and classical simulation regarding corner effect in a Saddle MOSFET has been carried out using a 3-D numerical simulator. The comparison has shown that quantum simulation gives correct description of device by providing accurate peak E-density position and magnitude at the Si-fin cross-section, hence accurate analysis of corner effect and its impact on device threshold voltage (Vth) characteristics is carried out. Moreover, rounding the Si-fin comers or lowering the body doping have been shown as two possible techniques to suppress the undesirable corner effect.

  • Acoustic feedback is perceived as whistling or howling, which is a major complaint of hearing-aids users. Acoustic feedback cancellation is important in hearing-aids because acoustic feedback degrades performance of the hearing aid device by reducing maximum insertion gain. Adaptive systems for estimate acoustic feedback path and feedback suppression algorithms have been proposed in order to solve this problem. A typical feedback cancellation algorithm is LMS(least mean squares) because of its computational efficiency. However it has problem of convergence performance in high correlated input signal. In this paper, we propose a new variable step-size normalized LMS(least mean squares) algorithm using VAD(voice activity detection) to overcome the limitation of the LMS algorithm. The VAD algorithm is GSAP(global speech absence probability) and the feedback cancellation algorithm is normalized LMS. The proposed algorithm applies different step-size between voice and non-voice using VAD, for high stability, fast convergence speed and low misalignment when correlated inputs, such as speech. The result of simulation with white noise mixed speech signal, the proposed algorithm shows high performance then traditional algorithm in terms of stability, convergence speed and misalignment.

  • Betulinic acid (BA), a natural pentacyclic triterpene found in many medicinal plants is known to have various biological activity including tumor suppression and anti-inflammatory effects. In this study, the cell-death induction effect of BA was investigated in BV-2 microglia cells. BA was cytotoxic to BV-2 cells with $IC_{50}$ of approximately $2.0{\mu}M$. Treatment of BA resulted in a dose-dependent chromosomal DNA degradation, suggesting that these cells underwent apoptosis. Flow cytometric analysis further confirmed that BA-treated BV-2 cells showed hypodiploid DNA content. BA treatment triggered apoptosis by decreasing Bcl-2 levels, activation of capase-3 protease and cleavage of PARP. In addition, BA treatment induced the accumulation of p62 and the increase in conversion of LC3-I to LC3-II, which are important autophagic flux monitoring markers. The increase in LC3-II indicates that BA treatment induced autophagosome formation, however, accumulation of p62 represents that the downstream autophagy pathway is blocked. It is demonstrated that BA induced cell death of BV-2 cells by inducing apoptosis and inhibiting autophagic flux. These data may provide important new information towards understanding the mechanisms by which BA induce cell death in microglia BV-2 cells.

  • The change in bodyweight, organ weight and the amount of water intake were investigated to assess the effect on a range of toxicological parameters of varying dosages of polyacetylene compounds. Concerning inhibition of solid tumor growth induced by Sarcoma-180 cells in the ICR mouse strain, relytionships between the dosage of polyacetylene compoilnds used and several toxicological parameters were observed. When 40μmoles/kg b.w. of panaxydol tvas administered for 3 consecutive days, the suppression of body weight growth in Wistar rats was about 17% that of the control group, however, the body weight gain was normalized 4 days after stopping arlnlinistration of the polyacetylene compounds. When the dosage of polyacetylenes was reduced to 20μmoles/kg b.w., the change in body weight gain was alleviated to within l0% of the control and the suppremission of the body weight gain increased in order for Panaxydol, Panaxynol, and Panaxytriol. The organ weight did not show any significant change between the control and the polyacetylene administered groups. Electron micrographs of the liver tissues of ICR mice injected with 40Umoles/kg b.w. of panaxydol gave no further significant information about toxicological changes. Keywords Polyacrtylenes, toxicological parameters, body weight, panaxydol, organ weight, electron micrographs .

  • This paper illustrates the noise characteristics under chip's core operations according to types of packages and modules for DDR DRAM For analyzing this, the impedance profiles and power noises are analyzed with DRAM chips having commercial TSOP package and commercial FBGA package on TSOP-based DIMM and FBGA-based DIMH In controversy with common concepts, we find that the noise-isolation characteristics of FBGA package are more weak and sensitive on transferred noises than those of the TSOP package. In addition, the simulated results show that the decoupling capacitor locations of modules are more important to control the self and transfer noise characteristics than the lead inductance of the packages. Therefore, satisfying the target spec of the noise suppression and isolation can be achieved through the design of power distribution systems only with considering not only the package types but also the whole module system.

  • We present the framework for JND based Illumination and Color Restoration Using Edge-preserving filter for restoring distorted images taken under the arbitrary lighting conditions. The proposed method is effective for appropriate illumination compensation, vivid color restoration, artifacts suppression, automatic parameter estimation, and low computation cost for HW implementation. We show the efficiency of the mean shift filter and sigma filter for illumination compensation with small spread parameter while considering the processing time and removing the artifacts such as HALO and noise amplification. The suggested CRF (color restoration filter) can restore the natural color and correct color distortion artifact more perceptually compared with current solutions. For the automatic processing, the image statistics analysis finds suitable parameter using JND and all constants are pre-defined. We also introduce the ROI-based parameter estimation dealing with small shadow area against spacious well-exposed background in an image for the touch-screen camera. The object evaluation is performed by CMC, CIEde2000, PSNR, SSIM, and 3D CIELAB gamut with state-of-the-art research and existing commercial solutions.

  • In order to estimate the accurate location of a user, Global Positioning system (GPS) requires at least four satellites. Since a conventional despreader operate for an GPS signal of interest, we need multiple despreaders for detecting multiple GPS signals. In this paper, we introduce the extension of the recently proposed system consisting of a null despreader, a conventional despreader, multi-stage CM (constant modulus) array, for the multiple GPS signals, and present the mathematical expression of the signal-to-interference-and-noise ratio (SINR). The extended system does not require the exact information of the direction of arrival (DOA) to suppress the directional interferences. We present the computer simulation to demonstrate the interference suppression performance of the proposed system for multiple GPS signals.

  • Voltage dependent calcium channel (VDCC), one of the most important regulator of $Ca^{2+}$ concentration in neuron, play an essential role in the central processing of nociceptive information. The present study investigated the antinociceptive effects of L, T or N type VDCC blockers on the formalin-induced orofacial inflammatory pain. Experiments were carried out on adult male Sprague-Dawley rats weighing 220-280 g. Anesthetized rats were individually fixed on a stereotaxic frame and a polyethylene (PE) tube was implanted for intracisternal injection. After 72 hours, 5% formalin ($50 \;{\mu}L$) was applied subcutaneously to the vibrissa pad and nociceptive scratching behavior was recorded for nine successive 5 min intervals. VDCC blockers were administered intracisternally 20 minutes prior to subcutaneous injection of formalin into the orofacial area. The intracisternal administration of 350 or $700{\mu}g$ of verapamil, a blocker of L type VDCC, significantly decreased the number of scratches and duration in the behavioral responses produced by formalin injection. Intracisternal administration of 75 or $150 \;{\mu}g$ of mibefradil, a T type VDCC blocker, or 11 or $22\; {\mu}g$ of cilnidipine, a N type VDCC blocker, also produced significant suppression of the number of scratches and duration of scratching in the first and second phase. Neither intracisternal administration of all VDCC blockers nor vehicle did not affect in motor dysfunction. The present results suggest that central VDCCs play an important role in orofacial nociceptive transmission and a targeted inhibition of the VDCCs is a potentially important treatment approach for inflammatory pain originating in the orofacial area.
