The formulation for hybrid-QUICK scheme of convective transport terms in finite-volume calculation procedure is presented. Source terms are modified to apply the hybrid-QUICK scheme. Test calculations are performed for wall-driven cavity flow at Re=$10_2$, $10_3$, and $10_4$. These include the evaluation of boundary conditions approximated by third-order finite difference scheme. The stable and converged solutions are obtained without unsteady terms in the momentum equations. The results using hybrid-QUICK scheme show no difference with those using hybrid scheme at low Re ($=10_2$) and are better at higher Re ($10_3$, and $10_4$).
In this paper, an almost second order overlapping Schwarz method for singularly perturbed third order convection-diffusion type problem is constructed. The method splits the original domain into two overlapping subdomains. A hybrid difference scheme is proposed in which on the boundary layer region we use the combination of classical finite difference scheme and central finite difference scheme on a uniform mesh while on the non-layer region we use the midpoint difference scheme on a uniform mesh. It is shown that the numerical approximations which converge in the maximum norm to the exact solution. We proved that, when appropriate subdomains are used, the method produces convergence of second order. Furthermore, it is shown that, two iterations are sufficient to achieve the expected accuracy. Numerical examples are presented to support the theoretical results. The main advantages of this method used with the proposed scheme are it reduce iteration counts very much and easily identifies in which iteration the Schwarz iterate terminates.
In this paper, we have constructed an overlapping Schwarz method for singularly perturbed second order convection-diffusion equations. The method splits the original domain into two overlapping subdomains. A hybrid difference scheme is proposed in which on the boundary layer region we use the central finite difference scheme on a uniform mesh while on the non-layer region we use the mid-point difference scheme on a uniform mesh. It is shown that the numerical approximations which converge in the maximum norm to the exact solution. When appropriate subdomains are used, the numerical approximations generated from the method are shown to be first order convergent. Furthermore it is shown that, two iterations are sufficient to achieve the expected accuracy. Numerical examples are presented to support the theoretical results. The main advantages of this method used with the proposed scheme is it reduces iteration counts very much and easily identifies in which iteration the Schwarz iterate terminates.
Viscous flow and heat transfer phenomena in an axisymmetric cylinder which models a diesel engine have been numerically studied. In order to search for a way to minimize numerical diffusion, the effectiveness and the appropriateness of two selected numerical schemes for convective terms in the governing equations have been tested. They are Linear Upwind Difference Scheme and Hybrid Scheme. Using a standard k-.epsilon. turbulence model, the calculation has been carried out basically up to 180.deg. of crank angle. As a result, it was shown from comparison with previous experimental data that Linear Upwind Difference Scheme is less influenced than Hybrid Scheme by the numerical diffusion and it was suggested that these effects of numerical diffusion can be more significant than those due to turbulence modeling.

In this paper, two hybrid difference schemes on the Shishkin mesh are constructed for solving a weakly coupled system of two singularly perturbed convection-diffusion second order ordinary differential equations with a small parameter multiplying the highest derivative. We prove that the schemes are almost second order convergence in the supremum norm independent of the diffusion parameter. Error bounds for the numerical solution and its derivative are established. Numerical results are provided to illustrate the theoretical results.

We employ a three-dimensional indirect boundary element method (BEM) to simulate temperature change around an underground liquefied natural gas storage cavern. The indirect BEM (IBEM) uses fictitious heat source strength on boundary elements as basic variables which are solved from equations of boundary conditions and then used to compute the temperature change at other points in the considered problem domain. The IBEM requires evaluation of singular integration for temperature change due to heat conduction from a constant heat source on a planar (triangular) region. The singularity can be eliminated by a semi-analytical integration scheme. However, it is found that the semi-analytical integration scheme yields sharp temperature gradient for points close to vertices of triangle. This affects the accuracy of heat flux, if they are evaluated by finite difference method at these points. This difficulty can be overcome by a combination of using a direct numerical integration for these points and the semi-analytical scheme for other points distance away from the vertices. The IBEM and the hybrid integration scheme have been verified with an analytic solution and then used to the application of the underground storage.
This paper proposes a CSG-based representation scheme for heterogeneous objects including multi-material objects and Functionally Graded Materials (FGMs). In particular, this scheme focuses on the construction of complicated heterogeneous objects guaranteeing desired material continuities at all the interfaces. In order to create various types of heterogeneous primitives, we first describe methods for specifying material composition functions such as geometry-independent, geometry-dependent functions. Constructive Material Composition (CMC) and corresponding heterogeneous Boolean Operators (e.g. material union, difference, intersection. and partition) are then proposed to illustrate how material continuities are dealt with. Finally, we describe the model hierarchy and data structure for computer representation. Even though the proposed scheme alone is sufficient for modeling all sorts of heterogeneous objects, the proposed scheme adopts a hybrid representation between CSG and decomposition. That is because hybrid representation can avoid the unnecessary growth of binary trees.
The existing numerical approximations of convection flux, especially the spatial higher-order difference schemes, in unstructured cell-centered finite volume methods are examined in detail with each other and evaluated with respect to the accuracy through their application to a 2-D benchmark problem. Six higher-order schemes are examined, which include two second-order upwind schemes, two central difference schemes and two hybrid schemes. It is found that the 2nd-order upwind scheme by Mathur and Murthy(1997) and the central difference scheme by Demirdzic and Muzaferija(1995) have more accurate prediction performance than the other higher-order schemes used in unstructured cell-centered finite volume methods.
The hybrid geoid model should be determined by fitting the gravimetric geoid to the geometric geoid which were presented the local vertical level. Therefore, it is necessary to find firstly the optimal scheme for improving the accuracy of gravimetric geoid in order to development the high-precision hybrid geoid model. Through finding the optimal scheme for determining the each part of gravimetric geoid, the most accurate gravimetric geoid model in Korea will be developed when the EIGEN-CG03C model to degree 360, 4-band spherical FFT and RTM reduction methods were used for determining the long, middle and short-frequency part of gravimetric geoid respectively. Finally, we developed the hybrid geoid model around Korea by correcting to gravimetric geoid with the correction term. The correction term is modelled using the difference between GPS/Levelling derived geoidal heights and gravimetric geoidal heights. The stochastic model used in the calculation of correction term is the LSC technique based on second-order Markov covariance function. 503 GPS/Levelling data were used to model the correction term. The degree of LSC fitting to the final hybrid geoid model in Korea was evaluated as 0.001m ${\pm}0.054m$.
