황남대총 출토직물 연구 -현(現) 경주문화재 연구소 소장직물을 중심으로- (A Study on the Fabrics Excavated from Hwangnamdaechong Tomb - Focused on the Fabrics Currently Housed in Gyeongju National Research institute of Cultural Heritage -)

  • Hwangnamdaechong Tomb (The 98th tomb in Hwangnam-dong), one of the royal tombs located around the area of royal tomb of King Michu in Hwangnam-dong, Gyeongju, is currently designated as Historic Site No. 40. It is assumed that Hwangnamdaechong Tomb is a royal tomb of the early 5th century. This study aims to examine the fabric relics excavated from Hwangdamdawchong Tomb and currently housed in Gyeongju National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage. The types of fabrics excavated from Hwangdamdawchong Tomb include plain silk, warp-faced compound woven silk, and hemp cloth. Most of these fabrics are adhered to metal products that became rusty. Plain silk found in Hwangnamdaechong Tomb can be divided into four types by its weaving method. Geum excavated from Hwangnamdaechong Tomb is typical Gyeong Geum that uses colored warp for its base and pattern. It is plain Gyeong Geum that the binding weft and warp is plain woven. Although there are a lot of Gyeong Geum fabrics whose colors are hard to define due to yellowing after long years, there are still many fabrics whose color such as purple, red, blue, and green can be identified. As literatures have shown that p cloth as well as silk were frequently woven during Silla dynasty, tremendous amount of hemp cloth was excavated. Most of the hemp cloth has S-twist in the warp and 8-12 seung degree of delicacy.

아로요 파크웨이 조경설계 (Streetscape Design of Arroyo Parkway, Pasadena, California)

  • The Pasadena Freeway follows the Arroyo Seco through foothills and scenic passes to link Downtown Los Angeles with Pasadena. The approximately 10 mile road was the first freeway built in the West during the 1930's and is today designated as a Historic Parkway. As it approaches Pasadena, it terminates at a traffic light intersection at Glenarm Street, and then becomes a commercial road the Arroyo Parkway. This one and a quarter mile long, north south road moves significant volumes of traffic both into and out of Pasadena. The Arroyo Parkway is thus a major 'gateway' and an important axis of orientation and movement, terminating in the City's core civic, commercial and retail district. Planting, lighting, signage, paving, furnishing and fixtures ought to all be properly designed and coordinated to create a distinctive 'gateway' experience arriving to Pasadena and driving along the Arroyo Parkway. Alternate design studies, developed in discussion with City officials and others involved in the redevelopment of the area, would need to be done to properly decide on the best direction. Issues of heritage and traditional streetscape will likely have to be reconciled with both the reality of the vehicular character of the road and more contemporary themes. Obviously with such large parcels of property available in the Arroyo Fair Oaks corridor, there is a huge potential for redevelopment and building. This potential would only be strengthened by the Light Rail Line and its stations, the improvements to the Arroyo Parkway, and the redevelopment of the Arts Center College of Design. Guides and controls to the development process, including programming and physical design studies, would need to be developed in order to ensure that the maximum potential for the corridor be realized. This concept proposal suggests that the whole strip might be developed as a Arts and Technology corridor, with special emphases on education, public culture, media and lifestyle. The full programming possibilities need to be further developed. Additionally, appropriate urban design guidelines to ensure high quality development also need to be incorporated into an overall development plan.

국내 석탑의 강성, 고유진동수 및 감쇠비에 관한 연구 (Study on the Joint Stiffness, Natural Frequency and Damping Ratio of Stone Pagodas in Korea)

  • Following the earthquake that shook the city of Gyeongju, Korea, in 2016, it became apparent that research on the safety of cultural heritages against the seismic hazards is necessary in Korea. Predictions of how historically significant stone pagodas would behave the earthquakes anticipated in near future, which are the subject of this study, is also required. In this study, the dynamic characteristics of 15 cultural heritage designated stone pagodas of Korea were investigated, including natural frequency and damping ratio, and the stiffness of the stone material and its contact area were determined using eigenvalue analysis by assuming the stone pagodas to be multi-degree-of-freedom structures. The results of this study enable the structural modeling of stone pagodas using a finite element analysis program and the method is expected to be useful in assessing the structural safety of stone pagodas against vertical loads as well as lateral forces, including earthquakes. Also, by identifying the dynamic characteristics of the structures, the results of this study can be utilized as a nondestructive testing method to determine the rigidity of cultural heritage structures and to identify inherent problems. The natural frequencies of the Korean stone pagodas were measured to be within 3.5~8.3Hz, excluding cases with distinct natural frequency results, and it was determined that the natural frequencies of the stone pagodas are influenced by various parameters including the height and joint stiffness of the structures.

우정총국주변 시민광장 설계 (The Citizen Plaza Design around the 1st Korean Postal Building, 'Woojeongchongkuk')

  • This paper presents a landscape design for the citizen plaza around the ˝Woojeongchongkuk˝(the 1st Korean postal building) where the ˝Gapsinjeongbyeon˝(1844 coup d´etat) occurred and which was once used as the ˝Jeoneoigam˝(a palace hospital). The site is located in 39 Kyeonji-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, and of which area is about 2,013$m^2$. The landscape design goals are to build traditional spaces which fit the traditional buildings and where people feel the old atmosphere; to build interesting spaces where people can learn the post and telegraphic history; and to build nature-friendly green rest spaces in the city. To achieve these goals, symbolic, traditional, educational, historical, and environmentally-friendly concepts are developed. With this concept the space is divided into two axis of the pst and telegraph of Korea. Along the two axis the Postage Stamp ˝Madang˝(yard), the Letter Garden, the Telegraphic ˝Ddeul˝(garden), the Communication Plaza, and the ˝Jeoneoigam˝(old palace hospital) and the ˝Gapsinjeongbyeon˝(1884 coup d´etat) Memorial Place are arranged. The Postal Stamp Madang which symbolizes the first Korean postage stamp is a space for studying history and evolution of stamps in Korea. The Letter Garden which symbolizes and formalizes a letter paper is composed with white bamboo trees which are planted linearly and long granite benches on which famous letters are carved. In the Telegraphic Ddeul which symbolizes the telegraph, the history of the telegraphic instrument and the telephone is exhibited. In the Communication Plaze which symbolizes future post and telegraph service extending to the world, the images of satellite communication, internet, webmail etc. are exhibited. The Jeoneoigan, and the Gapsinjeongbyeon Memorial Place is for memorializing the historic place and events. Throughout the whole place, various models and ceramic picture tiles about the post and telegraph and exhibited for effective education. In conclusion, sustainable management schemes for the site are suggested.

종묘 주변지역의 현상변경 실태 및 경관가시성을 고려한 경관보존.관리방안 (Measures to Implements the Landscape Preservation and Management on Consideration of Changing the Actual Condition and Landscape Visibility in the Surround Area of the Jongmyo)

  • 본 연구는 서울 종묘 주변지역의 현상변경실태 및 경관가시성을 분석, 평가한 후 경관보존 및 관리방안을 제시하기 위한 것으로, 종묘 주변지역의 현상변경실태와 경관통제점 및 시각회랑에서의 경관가시성을 분석한 결과, 첫째, 종묘의 서쪽과 동쪽지역에서 현상변경신청이 주로 발생하고 있으며, 주민들의 재산권 행사와 종묘의 경관보존이 서로 대립하고 있고, 종묘 주변의 경관 보존 관리가 점점 압박을 받고 있어 적절한 법적 관리방안이 요구되고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 둘째, 경관통제점과 시각회랑에서 경관저해요소로 나타나는 건물은 스카이라인을 해치고 있으며, 문화재의 배경 보존적 측면에서도 종묘와 이질적인 형태의 현대식 건물이 조망됨으로써 문제점을 나타내고 있었다. 셋째, 종묘 주변의 토지이용과 조망을 고려한 경관보존적 측면에서 종묘의 문화재보호를 위하여 특성에 맞는 토지이용방안을 설정하고 관리의 틀을 제안하였다.

지리정보체계를 이용한 안산시의 오픈스페이스 분석 (An Analysis of Urban Open Space with Geographic Information Systems - A Case Study of Ansan City, Korea -)

  • The purpose of this study is to develop means to apply GIS and remote sensing technology to the analysis of Korean urban open spaces. To achieve this objective, a framework of analysis of urban open spaces was developed, and then the framework was applied for the evaluation of the potential and suitability of open spaces of Ansan City, which is a new town developed to accomodate industries relocation from Seoul, Korea, mainly due to their pollution problems. The software used in this study are IDRISI, a grid-based GIS, and KMIPS, a remote sensing analysis system. Both packages are based on IBM PC/AT computers with Microsoft DOS. Landsat MSS and TM data were used for the land use classification, land use change detection, and analysis of transformed vegetation indices. The size of the geographic data base is 110 rows and 150 columns with the spatial resolution of 100m$\times$100m. The framework of analysis includes both quanititative and qualitative analysis of open spaces. The quantitative analysis includes size and distribution of open spaces, urban develpment of open spaces, and the degree of vegree of vegetation removal of the study area. The qualitative analysis includes evaluative criteria for primary productivity of land, park use potential, major visual resources, and urban environmental control. The findings of this study can be summarized as follows. First, the size of builtup areas increased 18.73km$^2$, while the size of forest land decreased 10.86km$^2$ during last ten years. Agricultural lands maintained its size, but shifted toward outside of the city into forest. Second, the potential of open spaces for park use is limited mainly due to their lack of accessibility and connectivity among open spaces, in spite of ample acreage and good site conditions. Third, major landscape elements and historic sites should be connected to the open space system of the city by new accesses and buffers.

최근 관측된 수도권 지역 미소지진과 지진위험성 (Recent Observations of Micro-earthquakes and Its Implications for Seismic Risk in the Seoul Metropolitan Region, Korea)

  • 2010년 2월 9일 수도권에서 모멘트 규모 3.1 지진이 발생했다. 수도권 지역에서는 계기지진 관측이 시작된 후 오랫동안 유감지진 보고가 없었기 때문에, 이 지진은 수도권의 지진 위험성과 위해성을 상기시키는 계기가 되었다. 수도권은 약 2천 5백만 명의 인구밀집지역으로서 인구수 측면에서 본다면 세계에서 가장 큰 대도시 중 하나이다. 이 지진이 발생한 위치에서 규모 6.5의 지진이 발생했음을 가정하여 지진동을 시뮬레이션 해보면, 많은 인구와 구조물의 취약성으로 인하여 서울을 포함한 수도권 지역은 매우 심각한 위해성을 가지고 있을 것으로 생각된다. 본 연구의 동기를 제공한 시흥 지진이 피해를 야기할 수 있는 주요 지진으로 간주될 수는 없지만, 이 지역의 역사적 지진기록과 최근 지진발생 현황에 비추어 볼 때 그 중요성을 간과해서는 안 된다. 또한 수도권처럼 지진발생이 많지 않은 곳에서는 기존의 지진관측망으로 감시하는 지진보다 작은 규모의 지진을 지진위험성 및 위해성 평가에 사용할 것을 제안한다.

RJCC 연구 키워드 네트워크 - 동시출현단어분석과 군집분석 - (Keyword networks in RJCC research - A co-word analysis and clustering -)

  • A trend analysis of research articles in a field of knowledge is significant because it can help in finding out the structural characteristics of the field and the future direction of research through observing change in a time series. We identified the structural characteristics and trends in text data (keywords) gathered from research articles which in itself is an important task in various research areas. The titles and keywords were crawled from research articles published from 2016 to 2018 in the Research Journal of the Costume Culture (RJCC), one of the representative Korean journal in the field of clothing and textile. After we extracted data comprising English titles and keywords from 195 published articles, we transformed it into a 1-mode matrix. We used measures from network analysis (i.e., link, strength, and degree centrality) for evaluating meaningful patterns and trends in the research on clothing and textile. NodeXL was used for visualizing the semantic network. This study observed change in the clothing and textile research trend. In addition to covering the core areas of the field, the subjects of research have been diversifying with every passing year and have evolved onto a developmental direction. The most studied area in articles published by the RJCC was fashion retailing/consumer psychology while aesthetic/historic and fashion industry/policy studies were covered to a more limited extent. We observed that most of the studies reflecting the identity of RJCC share subject keywords to a significant extent.

경주 월성의 역사공간 이미지 및 관광객 이용행태 분석 (Tourists' Historical Image and Behavior Characteristics for Heritage Site at Wolseong Palace in Gyeongju)

  • 경주 월성은 신라시대 궁궐이 있었던 역사적 상징성이 있는 궁궐터로 왕경 경주의 대표적인 역사유적이다. 본 연구는 경주 월성을 대상지로 역사공간 이미지와 관광객들의 이용행태에 대한 조사를 실시하였다. 연구방법은 주로 현장조사와 설문조사 두 단계로 실시하여 수집된 데이터를 행태, 시간, 공간별로 분석했다. 연구결과는 경주 월성의 주된 이용행태는 서서 하는 행위, 앉아서 하는 행위, 놀이/유흥 순으로 나타나고, 일반적인 역사문화유적지와 비교해 이용행태는 매우 단조로운 것을 알 수 있다. 경주 월성의 이용활성화를 위하여 주 진입로의 역할기능을 강화하면서 탐방객들을 월성 내 타 공간으로 분산시키기 위하여 각 동선코스를 사전에 안내하는 표지판, 야간조명, 식생정비, 도로정비 등을 필요하다.

An Application of Machine Learning in Retail for Demand Forecasting

  • Demand prediction is an essential component of any business or supply chain. Large retailers need to keep track of tens of millions of items flows each day to ensure smooth operations and strong margins. The demand prediction is in the epicenter of this planning tornado. For business processes in retail companies that deal with a variety of products with short shelf life and foodstuffs, forecast accuracy is of the utmost importance due to the shifting demand pattern, which is impacted by an environment of dynamic and fast response. All sectors strive to produce the ideal quantity of goods at the ideal time, but for retailers, this issue is especially crucial as they also need to effectively manage perishable inventories. In light of this, this research aims to show how Machine Learning approaches can help with demand forecasting in retail and future sales predictions. This will be done in two steps. One by using historic data and another by using open data of weather conditions, fuel, Consumer Price Index (CPI), holidays, any specific events in that area etc. Several machine learning algorithms were applied and compared using the r-squared and mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) assessment metrics. The suggested method improves the effectiveness and quality of feature selection while using a small number of well-chosen features to increase demand prediction accuracy. The model is tested with a one-year weekly dataset after being trained with a two-year weekly dataset. The results show that the suggested expanded feature selection approach provides a very good MAPE range, a very respectable and encouraging value for anticipating retail demand in retail systems.
