  • A singularly perturbed reaction-diffusion fourth-order ordinary differential equation(ODE) with discontinuous source term is considered. Due to the discontinuity, interior layers also exist. The considered problem is converted into a system of weakly coupled system of two second-order ODEs, one without parameter and another with parameter ε multiplying highest derivatives and suitable boundary conditions. In this paper a computational method for solving this system is presented. A zero-order asymptotic approximation expansion is applied in the second equation. Then, the resulting equation is solved by the numerical method which is constructed. This involves non-overlapping Schwarz method using Shishkin mesh. The computation shows quick convergence and results presented numerically support the theoretical results.

  • Numerical simulations for dendritic growth of crystals are conducted in this study by the level set method. The effect of order of difference is tested for reinitialization error in simple problems and authors founded in case of 1st order of difference that very fine grids have to be used to minimize the error and higher order of difference is desirable to minimize the reinitialization error The 2nd and 4th order Runge-Kutta scheme in time and 3rd and 5th order of WENO schemes with Godunov scheme are applied for space discretization. Numerical results are compared with the analytical theory, phase-field method and other researcher's level set method.

  • The dynamic response of symmetric cross-ply and angle-ply composite laminated plates under impact loads is investigated using a higher order shear deformation theory. A modified Hertz law is used to predict the impact loads and a four node finite element is used to model the plate. By using a higer order shear deformation theory, the out-of-plane shear stresses, which can be a crucial factor in the failure of composite plates, are determined with significant accuracy. This is accomplished by using a stress recovery technique using the in-plane stresses. The results compared with previous investigations showed good agreement. It can be seen that this method of analyzing impact problems is more efficient than current three dimensional methods in terms of time and expense.

  • There has been a number methods for the presentation of time-frequency analysis of non-stationary signal. In this paper, STFT(short time Fourier transform), wavelet transform, Wigner distribution, and higher order Wigner distribution are discussed in details with simulation signals. They are also applied to the analysis of the wave propagation of a semi finite beam. Wigner distribution and higher order Wigner distribution have good time-frewuency resolutions. Wavelet transform is required for impact analysis but should be applied carefully. STFT suffers from time-frequency resolutions. Each method is has its advantage and disadvantage depending on each application signals.

  • The performance of M-ary APSK modulation system due to phase noise are analyzed in this paper. The effects for phase noise in the higher order modulation are simulated by using constellation of the higher order modulation signals. the simulated results are verified by comparing with the analytic results for lower order PSK modulation signals. Based on the evaluation of simulation method, the phase noise effects for higher order APSK modulation signals are suggested in this paper.

  • The aim of this paper is to design a speed controller of a DC motor by selection of a PID parameters using genetic algorithm. The model of a DC motor is considered as a typical non-oscillatory, second-order system, And this paper compares three kinds of tuning methods of parameter for PID controller. One is the controller design by the genetic algorithm. second is the controller design by the model matching method third is the controller design by Ziegler and Nichols method. It was found that the proposed PID parameters adjustment by the genetic algorithm is better than the Ziegler & Nickels' method. And also found that the results of the method by the genetic algorithm is nearly same as the model matching method which is analytical method. The proposed method could be applied to the higher order system which is not easy to use the model matching method.

  • Blind source separation (BSS) is a fundamental problem that is encountered in many practical applications. In most existing methods, stationary sources are considered higher-order statistics is necessary either explicitly or implicitly. But, many natural signals are nonstationary, and it is possible to perform BSS using only second-order statistics. Our method is based on only second order statistics. The algorithms are developed using the gradient descent method in orthogonality constraint and their performance is confirmed by numerical experiments.

  • The demand for handling images in digital form has increased dramatically in recent years. Digital image compression is required to store and transmit mass information in different from general information. JPEG(Joint Photographic Experts Group) committee founded by CCITT and ISO is define the still-image standard compression/restoration algorithm. JPEG is proposed the standard of grayscale and color still-image compression/restoration. In the image quality, JPEG is applicable to the various applications in which compression is able to from 1/10 to 1/50 without the visible obstacle. In this paper, we proposed that the proposed method enhance the compression ratio which is reducing the higher frequency in order to increasing the spatial redundancy in the image. The proposed method is using the low pass filter in order to reducing the higher frequency. The low-pass filters are using the median filter and convolution filter in the spatial domain, FFT filter in the frequency domain. We acquired the additive compression ratio reducing the higher frequency using the low-pass filter.

  • In this paper, the wave-induced motion characteristics of a floating pendulor are investigated numerically. A floating pendulor is a movable-body-type wave energy converter. This device consists of three main parts (floater, pendulum, and damping plates). In order to obtain the hydrodynamic coefficients and wave exciting forces acting on floating bodies, a higher-order boundary element method (HOBEM) using a wave Green function is applied to the present problems. The hinged motion of a pendulum is simulated by applying the penalty method. In order to obtain a more realistic motion response for a pendulor, numerical body damping is included. First, the wave force and motion characteristics of just a floater are observed with respect to different shape parameters. Then, a coupled analysis of a floater, pendulum, and damping plates is carried out. The relative pitch velocity and wave forces acting on the floating pendulor are compared with those of a fixed pendulor.

  • Numerical analysis of large amplitude free vibration behaviour of laminated composite spherical shell panel embedded with the piezoelectric layer is presented in this article. For the investigation purpose, a general nonlinear mathematical model has been developed using higher order shear deformation mid-plane kinematics and Green-Lagrange nonlinearity. In addition, all the nonlinear higher order terms are included in the present mathematical model to achieve any general case. The nonlinear governing equation of freely vibrated shell panel is obtained using Hamilton's principle and discretised using isoparametric finite element steps. The desired nonlinear solutions are computed numerically through a direct iterative method. The validity of present nonlinear model has been checked by comparing the responses to those available published literature. In order to examine the efficacy and applicability of the present developed model, few numerical examples are solved for different geometrical parameters (fibre orientation, thickness ratio, aspect ratio, curvature ratio, support conditions and amplitude ratio) with and/or without piezo embedded layers and discussed in details.
