The Effect of Job-stress and Self-efficacy on Depression of Clinical Nurses (임상간호사의 직무 스트레스와 자기효능감이 우울에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: The purpose was to investigate the relations among job-stress, self-efficacy, and depression of nurses. Methods: The data were collected from a random sample of 213 nurses working in two general hospitals of a local area. A self-reported questionnaire was used to assess the level of job-stress, self-efficacy, and depression. Results: The mean score of job-stress was 49.1 and the score of job demand was the highest. The mean score of self-efficacy was 3.4, and depression was 18.2. The prevalence of depression was very high. The job-stress and depression were negatively correlated with self-efficacy. Hierarchial multiple regression showed that the self-efficacy and the high job demand, lack of reward, and organizational injustice of job-stress explained 53% of the variance for the nurses' depression. Conclusion: The findings indicated that the self-efficacy and job stress, especially job demand, organizational injustice, and lack of reward contributed to the depression. In order to prevent and decrease the depression, the developing programs to improve self-efficacy are needed.

Effects of Nursing Practice Environment, Compassion Fatigue and Compassion Satisfaction on Burnout in Clinical Nurses (임상간호사의 간호근무환경, 공감피로 및 공감만족이 소진에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: The purposes of this study was to identify the effects of nursing practice environment, compassion fatigue and compassion satisfaction on burnout in clinical nurses. Methods: Participants selected for the final analysis were 208 nurses working in 2 general hospitals in Busan and Masan. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation and Hierarchial Multiple Regression with SPSS/WIN 18.0. Results: Compassion fatigue had a significant positive effect on burnout, while Compassion satisfaction had a negative effect on burnout, but Nursing practice environment had no effect on burnout. The explained variance for burnout was 61% and compassion satisfaction was the most significant factor in burnout of nurses. Conclusion: The results of this study indicate that to reduce burnout in clinical nurses it is necessary to develop programs to increase nurses' compassion satisfaction and decrease compassion fatigue.

Effects of Parental Attachment and Mediated Perfectionism on the Subjective Well-Being of Undergraduate Students (완벽주의 성향을 매개로 한 대학생의 부/모에 대한 애착이 주관적 안녕감에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of parental attachment on the subjective well-being of undergraduate students and the role of perfectionism. Undergraduate students(N=416) were administered a questionnaire on parent and peer attachment, and the results were characterized by the well-being scale, and multidimensional perfectionism scale. The results indicated that trust had a positive effect on life satisfaction, whereas isolation had a negative effect on life satisfaction. Parental communication had a positive effect on self-oriented perfectionism and socially prescribed perfectionism. Self-orientated perfectionism and socially prescribed perfectionism had a positive effect on positive affection and life satisfaction and, socially prescribed perfectionism had a positive effect on negative affection. A hierarchial strategy for multiple regression was conducted to examine the role of perfectionism. The result indicated that self-oriented perfectionism mediated the effect of communication on positive affection, and socially prescribed perfectionism mediated the effect of trust on negative affection. In addition, socially prescribed perfectionism mediates the effect of isolation on negative affection.

Effects of Adolescents'Attachment to Parents and their School Stress on Depression : Focusing on Control Effects of Ego-Resilience (청소년이 지각한 부모와의 애착과 학교스트레스가 우울에 미치는 영향 : 자아탄력성의 조절효과를 중심으로)

  • The purpose of this study are to find out the gender and school level differences in adolescents' depression, and the influences of parent attachment and school stress on adolescents' depression and the effect of ego-resilience relations between parent attachment and depression, and that of school stress and depression. 402 of students(the first and the second graders of middle school and of high school in academic track in D area) completed questionnaire on parent attachment, school stress, ego-resilience, and depression. Descriptive statistic analyses, reliability analyses, Two-way ANOVAs, correlation analyses, and hierarchial multiple regression analyses were conducted through SPSS WIN 20.0. The findings are as follows. 1) There was school level difference, but not gender differences, on adolescents'depression. 2) There was ego-resilience control effect on the relations between parent attachment and adolescents' depression only for middle school students, but not for high school students. 3) There were ego-resilience control effect on the relations between school stress and adolescents' depression for both middle and high school students. The importance of ego-resilience and school levels in understanding adolescents' depression was discussed.

Effect of Career Development and Career Plateau on Career Satisfaction of Nurses (경력개발과 경력정체가 간호사의 경력만족에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: In this study, factors affecting career satisfaction of nurses were explored in the career development and career plateau. Methods: Participants were 143 nurses drawn from a general hospital in Busan. independent t-test, one way ANOVA and Hierarchial multiple regression with SPSS/WIN 18.0 program were used for data analysis. Results: The mean score of career satisfaction was 2.85/5, Career development was 2.99/5, and career plateau obtained 2.53/5. The extent of the career satisfaction differ according to age(F=3.60, p=.030), marital status(t=2.42, p=.017), current position(F=6.61, p=.002), total clinical career(F=3.36, p=.023), and work unit(t=0.95, p=.029). The influencing factors in career satisfaction of clinical nurses were organizational career management, career plateau and individual career planning. $R^2=.415$. Organizational career management was the highest significant predictor of career satisfaction(${\beta}=.325$). Conclusion: Factors influencing career satisfaction were organizational career management, career plateau and individual career planning. Thus a program for career development of organization is needed.

A Study on the Caregiving in Elderly of the Female Family Caregivers (여성가족부양자의 노인부양에 관한 연구)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this Study was to identify the factors that affect the caregiving burdens felt by the female family caregivers and quality of caregiving. Method: The subjects were 247 female family caregivers who were living with the elderly and were residing in Seoul. Data was collected from June 30, 2000 to Agust 11 by using questionnaire. The collected data was analyzed using descriptive statistics and hierarchial multiple regression with SAS/PC. Result: Situational factors had the greatest influence on the caregiving burdens. While the interactive factors of discrepancy between past and present image of elder and the caregiving belief were proven to be significant, the former had greater influence. The factors affecting the quality of caregiving, this is greatly influenced by situational factors and interactive factors. The discrepancy between past and present image of elder had relatively little influence while caregiving belief had the greatest influence. Among the situational factors, family stress had the greatest influence, while the caregiving burdens had little influence on the quality of caregiving. Conclusion: In order to improve the quality of caregiving in elderly by the female caregiver in the family, and to reduce the caregiving burdens, it is important to consider variables related to interaction as well as those directly concerned with caregiver and the elderly for nursing intervention.

Effects of the Knowledge, Health Belief, and Self-Efficacy about Osteoporosis on Calcium Intake Behavior for Postmenopausal Osteoporosis Patients (폐경기 골다공증 환자의 골다공증 지식, 건강신념, 자기효능감이 칼슘섭취행위 빈도에 미치는 영향)

  • Purposes: To identify the predictors of calcium intake behavior and examine the relationships among bone mineral density, osteoporosis knowledge, osteoporosis health belief, osteoporosis self efficacy and calcium intake behavior of postmenopausal osteoporosis patients. Methods: The subjects consisted of 94 patients. The measurement tools were osteoporosis knowledge test, osteoporosis health belief scale, osteoporosis self-efficacy and calcium intake frequency questionnaire. The data were analyzed using the SPSS WIN 11.0 program. Results: The bone mineral density of the lumbar were $0.75g/cm^2$, T-score -2.67 and the femur neck were $0.67g/cm^2$, T-score -2.30. There was statistically a significant correlation between calcium intake behavior and health motivation (r=0.449, p=0.000) among the osteoporosis health belief. In hierarchial multiple regression analysis, current spouse(12.8%) and health motivation(19.9%) of the osteoporosis health belief explained the 32.7% of variance in calcium intake behavior. Conclusion: Nursing intervention should be developed for increasing the calcium intake behavior through promoting health motivation for the postmenopausal osteoporosis women having no spouse currently.

Impact of Self-Esteem and Test Anxiety on Mental Health among Nursing Students Taking the National Examination for Registered Nurses (간호대학생의 국가고시 관련 시험불안, 자아존중감과 정신건강에 대한 연구)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between test anxiety, self-esteem and mental health. Method: Data were collected by structured questionnaires from 306 nursing students in a dormitory for the national examination for registered nurses. Collected data were analyzed by t-test, ANOVA, scheffe's test and Pearson's correlation coefficient and hierarchial multiple regression through the SPSS WIN program. Result: The results of the analysis showed that the mean for test anxiety was $79.70{\pm}18.74$ points, the degree of self-esteem was $28.26{\pm}5.02$, and mental health was $24.31{\pm}13.07$. In the correlation analysis, mental health positively correlated with test anxiety (r=.559, p=.000) and negatively correlated with self-esteem (r=-.141, p=.013). Test anxiety and subjective health status explained 36.4% of mental health. Conclusion: This finding of this study recommends that test anxiety control and self-esteem enhancement programs should be development for mental health promotion in nursing students taking the national examination for registered nurses.

Effects of Social Capital on Organizational Performance in Hospital Organization - Focusing on Effects of Intellectual Capital - (간호사가 지각한 병원조직의 사회적 자본이 조직성과에 미치는 영향 - 지적자본에 의한 효과를 중심으로 -)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of intellectual capital in the relationship between social capital and organizational performance in hospital organizations. Methods: A cross-sectional design was used, with a convenience sample of 390 nurses from 3 general hospitals in Gwangju and Chonnam province. Data were collected through a questionnaire survey done from May 1 to 15, 2009. Data was analyzed with descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation coefficient and hierarchial multiple regression using the SPSS WIN 17.0 program. Results: There was a significantly positive relationship between social capital, intellectual capital and organizational performance. Intellectual capital showed partial mediating effects between social capital and organizational performance. However, intellectual capital did not show moderating effects. Conclusion: Accumulated social capital increased intellectual capital and the increased intellectual capital increased organizational performance. This finding suggests that as a contribution to the improvement of organizational performance in hospitals, creation and accumulation of social capital and intellectual capital are very critical.

A Study of the Impact of Organizational Cultures on the Organizational Effectiveness (조직문화가 조직유효성에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구 : 의료사회복지사의 인식을 중심으로)

  • The purpose of this study was to the impact of organizational culture on the organizational effectiveness in hospitals were empirically analysed. Data were collected by 151 social workers including general hospitals with one social worker at least and single-department hospital with two social workers or more, were identified nationwide through the registry of Korean Association of Medical Social Workers and Korean Association of Hospitals. The results of this study were summarized as follows; First, most social workers report that characteristic of culture in their hospitals are group culture the first, hierarchial culture the second, rational culture the third, and developmental culture finally in order of social worker's recognition. Second, according to the types of organizational culture, there were significantly different levels of organizational effectiveness. Social worker's perceived group cultures in hospital showed higher job satisfaction, organizational commitment than other culture patterns. And also, social worker's perceived developmental cultures in hospital showed higher organizational commitment quality of social service than other culture patterns. Third, multiple regression analysis was conducted to find the relationship of organizational culture and organizational effectiveness. As a result, developmental culture showed a strong relationship with job satisfaction, organizational commitment and quality of social services Finally, as for the cultural affects on the organizational effectiveness depended on intensive attention to developmental culture in hospital Consolidating the attribute of developmental culture in hospital is also proposed to improve the organizational cultures.
