In the past decade, there have been many advances in whole-genome sequencing in domestic animals, as well as the development of "next-generation" sequencing technologies and high-throughput genotyping platforms. Consequently, these advances have led to the creation of the high-density SNP array as a state-of-the-art tool for genetics and genomics analyses of domestic animals. The emergence and utilization of SNP arrays will have significant impacts not only on the scale, speed, and expense of SNP genotyping, but also on theoretical and applied studies of quantitative genetics, population genetics and molecular evolution. The most promising applications in agriculture could be genome-wide association studies (GWAS) and genomic selection for the improvement of economically important traits. However, some challenges still face these applications, such as incorporating linkage disequilibrium (LD) information from HapMap projects, data storage, and especially appropriate statistical analyses on the high-dimensional, structured genomics data. More efforts are still needed to make better use of the high-density SNP arrays in both academic studies and industrial applications.
Hospital Accreditation Programme(HAP) has been introduced in many countries in the world for these recent years. This article reviews the HAP in the aspects of the organization, survey and evaluation process, evaluation criteria, and its impact to the hospital quality improvement. The nations included in this study are USA, UK, Canada, Australia, and Korea. To carry out this comparative study, the authors have reviewed articles and accreditation manuals having been issued in many countries. An expert panel of medical doctor, nurse, pharmacist, administrator, and specialist in health facilities formulated a study framework. The results of this study enhance understanding about hospital accreditation activities according to each nation's health care system. In recent years, the Korean government has launched the plan to improve the quality of health services by strengthening the hospital accreditation programme. This study results can provide useful information in development and implementation of the national hospital accreditation programme in Korea.
A phytase gene was identified in a publicly available metagenome derived from subsurface groundwater, which was deduced to encode for a protein of the histidine acid phosphatase (HAP) family. The nucleotide sequence of the phytase gene was chemically synthesized and cloned, in order to further overexpress the phytase in Escherichia coli. Purified protein of the recombinant phytase demonstrated an activity for phytic acid of 298 ± 17 µmol P/min/mg, at the pH optimum of 2.0 with the temperature of 37℃. Interestingly, the pH optimum of this phytase is much lower in comparison with most HAP phytases known to date. It suggests that the phytase could possess improved adaptability to the low pH condition caused by the gastric acid in livestock and poultry stomachs.
A shortcoming of using transmission electron microscopy (TEM) for structural analysis via electron diffraction is the relatively large error of the measurements as compared to X-ray diffraction. To reduce these errors, various internal standard methods from earlier studies have been widely used. We developed a new device to facilitate the application of internal standard methods in preparation of TEM grids used for nanopowder analysis. Through the application of a partial mask on the TEM grid, both the internal standards and the research materials can be loaded on the same grid. Through this process, we conducted a TEM analysis that compared synthetic hydroxyapatite (HAp) nanopowder to bone apatite from a bovine femur. We determined that the accuracy of the d-spacing measurements of the HAp and bone powders could be improved to better than 1% after statistical treatments of the experimental data. By applying a quarter mask, we loaded four different nanoparticles on a single TEM grid, with one section designated for the internal standard.

A gene (hap) encoding aminopeptidase from the chromosomal DNA of Bacillus licheniformis was cloned. The gene is 1,347 bp long and encodes a 449 amino acid preproprotein with a major mature region of 401 amino acids (calculated molecular mass 43,241 Da). N-Terminal sequence of the purified protein revealed a potential presence of N-terminal propeptide. The deduced primary amino acid sequence and the mass analysis of the purified protein suggested that a C-terminal peptide YSSVAQ was also cleaved off by a possible endogeneous protease. Tho amino acid sequence displayed 58% identity with that of the aminopeptidase from alkaliphilic Bacillus halodurans. This bacterial enzyme was overexpressed in recombinant Escherichia coli and Bacillus subtilis cells. Clones containing the intact hap gene, including its own promoter and signal sequence, gave rise to the synthesis of extracellular and thrmostable enzyme by B. subtilis transformants. The secreted protein exhibited the same biochemical properties and the similar apparent molecular mass as the B. lichenzyormis original enzyme.
Four different hydroxyapatites (HAP) were prepared by a solvothermal method under different pHs and solvent species. The synthesized hydroxyapatites were analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Four HAPs exhibited similar XRD patterns regardless of synthetic conditions. However, the morphology of hydroxyapatites was dependent of pH and solvent species under synthetic condition. The HAP prepared in pH 12 showed an elongated shape along the [001] direction compared to that prepared in pH 8. Also, the morphology of the HAPs synthesized in the presence of methanol and ethanol exhibited the more elongated hexagonal rod shape along the [001] direction with the high aspect ratio.
For hazardous air pollutants(HAP) such as NO and $NO_{2}$ decomposition efficiency, power consumption, and applied voltage were investigated by SPCP(surface induced discharge plasma chemical processing) reactor to obtain optimum process variables and maximum decomposition efficiencies. Decomposition efficiency of HAP with various electric frequencies(5~50 kHz), flow rates(100~1,000 mL/min), initial concentrations(100~1,000 ppm), electrode materials(W, Cu, Al), electrode thickness(1, 2, 3 mm) and number of electrode windings(7, 9, 11) were measured. Experimental results showed that for the frequency of 10 kHz, the highest decomposition efficiency of 94.3 % for NO and 84.7 % for $NO_{2}$ were observed at the power consumptions of 19.8 and 20W respectively and that decomposition efficiency decreased with increasing frequency above 20 kHz. Decomposition efficiency was increased with increasing residence times and with decreasing initial concentration of pollutants. Decomposition efficiency was increased with increasing thickness of discharge electrode and the highest decomposition efficiency was obtained for the electrode diameter of 3 mm in this experiment. As the electrode material, decomposition efficiency was in order : tungsten(W), copper(Cu), aluminum(Al).
Hydroxyapatites were prepared by the different $SiO_2$ addition at $1450^{\circ}C$ for 2h. With the increase of $SiO_2$ addition, microstructure, bulk density, porosity, mechanical strength of $hydroxyapatite/{\beta}-TCP$ composite were investigated. When the sintered HAp contained 1 wt% $SiO_2$, the each properties of the HAp were increased. But the excess addition of $SiO_2$ content above 1wt% the each property were decreased. This results were due to the ${\beta}-TCP$ phase. The ${\beta}-TCP$ phase appeared at 3 wt% $SiO_2$ addition and the ${\beta}-TCP$ phase was enhanced by the $SiO_2$ increasing.

The process of coprecipitation of biocomposite hydroxyapatite/chitosan from aqueous solution at low temperature in alkali environnement was examined. We have shown that initially we have the formation of amorphous octocalcium phosphates $(Ca_8(HPO_4)(PO_4)_5,\;nH_2O:\;OCP)$ and the transferring from OCP to amorphous calcium phosphate $(Ca_9(PO_4)_3,\;nH_2O:\;TCP)$, and then from TCP to calcium-deficient hydroxyapatite $(Ca_{10-X}\;(HPO_4)_X(PO_4)_{6-x}(OH)_{2-X}\;:\;ACP)$ and hydroxyapatite $(Ca_{10}(PO_4)_6(OH)_2\;:\;HAP)$. The transformation of ACP to HAP was inhibited in the presence of chitosan. The result suggests that there is an affinity binding between ACP and chitosan and subsequently blocking the active growth site of ACP.

In this study, the physicochemical characteristics and fluoride adsorption capacity of the bone char pyrolyzed at different temperatures; 200℃, 300℃, 350℃, 400℃, 500℃, 600℃, and 700℃ were investigated. Analytical studies of the synthesized bone char including; SEM-EDS, XRD, BET and FT-IR, showed the presence of hydroxyapatite(HAP), which is the main substance that adsorbs fluoride from aqueous solutions containing high fluoride concentrations. Bone char pyrolyzed from 350~700℃ specifically revealed that, the lower the temperature, the higher the fluoride adsorption capacity and vice versa. The loss of the fluoride adsorption function of HAP (OH- band in the FTIR analysis) was interpreted as the main reason behind this inverse correlation between temperature and fluoride adsorption. Bone char produced at 350℃ hence exhibited a fluoride adsorption capacity of 10.56 mgF/g, resulting in significantly higher adsorption compared to previous studies.
