  • This study was investigated to know the thermal decomposition for the propellant ingredients and 2 kinds of HTPE propellants. The thermal analysis of the propellant ingredients used in this study showed that the thermal stability of these materials decreases in the following order : AP > HTPE > AN > BuNENA. In addition, propellant HTPE 002 containing AN showed that an endothermic process at around $125^{\circ}C$ corresponding to the solid-solid phase change($II{\rightarrow}I$) of AN was followed by the exothermic process due to decomposition of BuNENA/AN until $200^{\circ}C$. The critical temperature, $T_c$, of thermal explosion for the propellants HTPE 001 and HTPE 002, were obtained from the non-isothermal curves at various heating rates, by using Semenov's thermal explosion theory. Kissinger's method was employed to obtain the activation energy of the thermal decomposition, and it was used to calculate the $T_c$.

  • This study was investigated to know the thermal decomposition and measure the reaction time and temperature by EIDS cook-off test for the propellant ingredients and 2 kinds of HTPE propellants. The thermal analysis of the propellant ingredients used in this study showed that the thermal stability of these materials decreases in the following order : AP > HTPE > AN > BuNENA. In addition, propellant HTPE 002 containing AN showed that an endothermic process at around $125^{\circ}C$ corresponding to the solid`solid phase change($II{\rightarrow}I$) of AN was followed by the exothermic process due to decomposition of BuNENA/AN until $200^{\circ}C$. HTPE 001 and HTPE 001 reacted at around $250^{\circ}C$ and $152^{\circ}C$ each other, and the temperature of them sharply increased at $115^{\circ}C$ from EIDS slow cook-off tests.

  • In this study, 2 kinds of HTPE insensitive propellants composed of HTPE/BuNENA binder, AP, AN and Al were investigated for combustion characteristics, ignition delay time, sensitivity and insensitive properties compared with HTPB propellant. HTPE propellant showed almost same sensitivity results as HTPB propellant, showed 2~3 times higher value than the value of HTPB propellant, ignition delay time respectively, and met the standard criteria, while HTPB propellant failed.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the thermal decomposition and execute EIDS slow cook-off test for the propellant ingredients and 2 kinds of HTPE propellants. The thermal analysis of the propellant ingredients used in this study showed that the thermal stability of these materials decreases in the following order : AP > HTPE > AN > BuNENA. In EIDS slow cook-off tests, HTPE 001 and HTPE 002 reacted at around $250^{\circ}C$ and $152^{\circ}C$ respectively, and both of them showed sudden temperature increase curves at $115^{\circ}C$. The critical temperatures, $T_c$, of thermal explosion for the propellants HTPE 001 and HTPE 002, were obtained from both the non-isothermal curves at various heating rates and Semenov's thermal explosion theory. Kissinger's method that was used to calculate $T_c$ was also employed to obtain the activation energies for thermal decompositions.

  • Fast cook-off test with rocket motors was performed and characteristics of the results were analyzed. The material of the motor case was carbon epoxy composite. The motor was loaded with HTPE propellants to improve the insensitive munitions characteristics. In the tests, sound pressure and heat flux sensors were used to determine the category of response according to the standard. The reaction response of all of the HTPE motors tested by fast cook-off was judged as Type V burning.

  • Hydroxyl terminated polyether(HTPE) propellants have been developed recently as possible replacements for HTPB/AP propellants currently used in a number of tactical rocker motor. As analyzing friability of HTPE and HTPB propellants in this study, the following results could be derived. The friability of the tested propellants depended on its binder contents, mechanical property, and burning rate. It was decreased as burning rate was lowered and toughness was increased.

  • Two novel synthetic route proposed for Hydro-Terminated Poly(EO-ran-THF) and tri-block(PEC-PTHF-PEG) copolymer by cationic ring-opening polymerization of tetrahydrofuran(THF) and ethylene oxide(EO) and just by polymerization of EO on poly-THF, respectively. Polyurethane was synthesized from random and tri-block HTPE using N-100/IPDI mixture as curing agent, and TPB(Triphenylbismuth) as catalyst. The mechanical properties of resultant polyurethane after mixing with various ratio of isocyanate was also investigated. Finally, the post treatment process of HTPE based on amount of catalyst used in the synthesis was studied, to evaluate the optimum curing condition for the polyurethane propellant binder.

  • It was intended to conduct basic research to reduce development lead time and cost consumed in DTP process technology development. For the simulation of HTPE fabric, virtual engineering software was used to generate fiber model, yarn model, fabric model, and finite element model of HTPE fiber. The purpose of this study is to analyze the correlation and error rate between the stiffness numerical analysis results according to the direct DTP process parameters using reactive dyes in the generated finite element model and the stiffness measurements of the actual sample ac- cording to ASTM D1388. And, after dyeing the HTPE plain fabric according to the direct DTP process parameters, we want to analyze the dyeability of the HTPE fabric fabrics according to the direct DTP process parameters through the color fastness analysis. When looking at the results of the analysis of the finite element model, a higher value was shown when the distance between the nozzle and the fabric was 3mm than when the distance was 10mm. When the distance between the nozzle and the fabric was 10mm and 7mm, the reactive dye did not penetrate sufficiently, resulting in poor clarity when viewed with the naked eye.
