  • In this paper, the adaptive nodal generation procedure based on the estimated local and global error in the element-free Galerkin (EFG) method is proposed. To investigate the possibility of h-type adaptivity of EFG method, a simple nodal refinement scheme is used. By adding new node along the background cell that is used in numerical integration, both of the local and global errors can be controlled adaptively. These errors are estimated by calculating the difference between the values of the projected stresses and original EFG stresses. The ultimate goal of this study is to develop the reliable nodal generator based on the local and global errors that is estimated posteriori. To evaluate the performance of proposed adaptive procedure, the convergence behavior is investigated for several examples.

  • In the paper, a pattern analysis to decide whether the 1st local peak power point near open circuit voltage is the global peak power point or not, in case that the voltage and current at the 1st local peak power point are in a specific range, for Maximum Power Point Tracking on the photo voltaic power conversion system. When a solar cell panel array is shaded partially, multi-local peak power points can occur. That makes it hard to search the global peak power point. Through Tableau analysis using by piecewise linear solar cell model, V-I characteristic of a solar cell panel array circuit when partial shading problem happens, is simulated. The global peak power and the local peak power points is confirmed by simulations. Voltage and current values and patterns of V-I characteristic are analyzed. The generating efficiency of the solar cell panel array is improved, when the solar cell panel array circuit is operated at the power point estimated by setting up specific range.

  • London's BID, introduced in the early 2000s, has grown significantly to fill the gap between government services which have been decreased by the global recession and localism, and the demand for better services to strengthen competitiveness on a global level. Based on this background, this study comparatively analysed two BIDs in London with contrasting regional characteristics to find how BID works differently for the regeneration and sustainable development of regional business districts according to regional characteristics. As a result, the two BIDs ultimately had the goal of improving the local business environment and strengthening the competitiveness of local businesses and had a common point of working in close partnership with the public sector such as the local government. However, depending on the local situation and characteristics, it has been observed that there are differences in the strategies of work and the roles and relationships in the partnership with the public sector.

  • In the present study, the stencil printing process using solder paste are numerically analyzed. The key design parameters in the stencil printing process are the printing conditions, stencil design, and solder paste properties. Among these parameters, the effects of printing conditions including the squeegee angle and squeegee pressure are investigated through finite element (FE) analysis. However, the FE analysis for the stencil printing process requires tremendous computational loads and time because this process carries micro-filling through thousands of micro-apertures in stencil. To overcome this difficulty in simulation, the present study proposes a two-step approach to sequentially perform the global domain analysis and the local domain analysis. That is, the pressure development under the squeegee are firstly calculated in the full analysis domain through the global analysis. The filling stage of the solder paste into a micro-aperture is then analyzed in the local analysis domain based on the results of the preceding global analysis.

  • This paper is concerned with the positive steady states of a diffusive Holling type II predator-prey system, in which two predators and one prey are involved. Under homogeneous Neumann boundary conditions, the local and global asymptotic stability of the spatially homogeneous positive steady state are discussed. Moreover, the large diffusion of predator is considered by proving the nonexistence of non-constant positive steady states, which gives some descriptions of the effect of diffusion on the pattern formation.

  • In this study, a formulation of the idealized plate element based upon the idealized structural unit method(ISUM) firstly proposed by Ueda et.al is made in an attempt to analyze the geometric nonlinear behaviour up to the buckling strength of thin-walled long structures like box-column structure including the coupling effect between local and global buckling. An application to the example box-column is also performed and it is found that the present method gives reliable results with consuming very short computing times and therefore is very useful for evaluation of the buckling strength of thin-walled long structures.

  • In this paper, the parametric study on the local displacement and the local moment due to a concentrated load is performed for stiffened plates with open ribs and the orthotropic rigidity ratio of stiffened plates is selected as the parameter. For estimating the local behavior, stiffened plates loaded on the center of plates between the ribs were considered and for the global behavior, stiffened plates loaded on the rib at the center of plates were analyzed. The Analyzed results for the local behavior of stiffened plates show that the increasing ratio of the local moment according to rib sizes is constant regardless of rib spaces and the ratio of the local displacement to the global displacement can be expressed as a function of the rib space and the rigidity ratio. The application of functions to examples shows good accuracy in comparison with the local behavior of stiffened plates loaded on the center of plates and the application to the orthotropic analysis of stiffened plates improves accuracy. Therefore, using functions proposed in this study, the local behavior can easily be estimated from the global behavior of stiffened plates with open ribs.

  • There are many numerical methods to solve large-scale fluid-structure interaction(FSI) problems. However, these methods require very fine mesh to achieve the reasonable numerical accuracy and stability due to the concentrated and volatile hydrodynamic pressure caused by the liquid sloshing. Consequently, the numerical analysis targeting for the long-period time response with the desired numerical accuracy Is very highly time-consuming. The aim of this paper is to suggest a new method to analyze the hydroelastic behavior of the LNGC containment by using the global-local numerical approach. The reliability of the presented method is firstly examined, and then its efficiency is demonstrated by presenting that the long-period local responses of the LNGC containment are obtained with relatively short CPU time.

  • The objective of this study is to evaluate the application of Land Surface Model (LSM) and global spatial and weather data. After selecting the appropriate LSM, we evaluated the calculation ability of the model for dam basins. Based on the global meteorological and topography data, the accuracy of runoff results were analysed to assess the uncertainty of global data. Period analysis was performed to suggest the global data utilization. The model results by using local data are within the acceptable range reflecting the local complex meteorological and topographical characteristics. Although the accuracy of the simulated results from global data is not good by the uncertainty of meteorological data, it indicated that the accuracy can be improved with increasing duration of runoff analysis over 10 days.

  • Moment-based reliability analysis is the method to calculate reliability using Pearson System with first-four raw moments obtained from simulation model. But it is too expensive to calculate first four moments from complicate simulation model. To overcome this drawback the MD(multiplicative decomposition) method which approximates simulation model to kriging metamodel and calculates first four raw moments explicitly with multiplicative decomposition techniques. In general, kriging metamodel is an interpolation model that is decomposed of global model and local model. The global model, in general, can be used as the constant global model, the 1st order global model, or the 2nd order global model. In this paper, the influences of global models on the accuracy and robustness of raw moments are examined and compared. Finally, we suggest the best global model which can provide exact and robust raw moments using MD method.
