Although over - 600 students in Incheon has been participated in the gifted education programs under the colleges and Office of Education Department every year, it is reported that the number of teachers have insufficient teaching abilities in primary, advanced, and after-advanced gifted classes. The Gifted Education Research Institute in Incheon University introduced R&E activities for the improvement of teachers' abilities in science research and student guiding. Professors in science department conducted the R & E activities to select the research thesis. The professors and the guidance teachers decided the directions of the research, and the guidance teachers who learned from the professors taught 3-5 students to practice the research. Five professor-teacher-student research teams in math, physics, chemistry and biology conducted the research after school and during the vacation for 7 months. The results of the research were submitted to the journals of research activities and the result papers were presented to the seminar. On this research, the possibilities and the difficulties of the R&E activities based of the journals of research activities, oral presentation and the research results reports were analyzed with a purpose of improving the professionalism of the science gifted teachers. Although the professors proposed many difficulties or problems about the R&E activities, the teachers reported that the R & E activities he1ped them to improve their research activities and student guiding techniques. The teachers acquired more knowledge on the principles of the science related areas than before. Moreover, they thought it was very meaningful experience in using the science related instruments, guiding the students' research and writing the research reports. The students also gave the positive responses with the increased interests in new science studies and with the experience of learning the way of research.

In order to achieve this goal, we consider the following issues: a retrospective analysis of the concepts of "giftedness", "intellectually gifted personality"; the experience of working with gifted youth abroad is analyzed; features of work with gifted student youth are revealed; educational and methodological support and practical work with gifted students are analyzed; an empirical study was conducted to determine the attitude of gifted youth to organizational forms of work with them; developed a scientific circle as a form of work with intellectually gifted student youth. A set of methods is used, in particular: theoretical methods: comparison, analysis, synthesis and generalization; empirical methods: analysis of documentation and results of pedagogical activity, observation.
This study compared the difference of learning style, self-regulated learning, learning flow, analyzed the learning style impact on self-regulated learning and learning flow between gifted and normal student. The subjects of this study were 118 sixth grade gifted students and 124 general students who showed academic achievement of the same level. According to the results of this study, gifted elementary children had more than the general independent, competitive, participatory learning style and they used personal, behavioral and environmental self-regulation strategies more often. Also they had a higher degree of learning flow than the general. Both gifted and general students, the more independent and participatory learning style, the more increased self-regulated learning and learning flow. And the more used self-regulated learning, the more increased learning flow. The learning flow of the gifted children was higher the more independent, the more participatory, the more used behavioral and personal self-regulated learning strategies. The learning flow of the general elementary children was higher the more participatory, the more used environmental and personal self-regulated learning strategies.
In this study, we investigated the characteristics of the analogies, the mapping understanding, and the mapping errors on saturated solution of scientifically-gifted and general elementary students. Fifth graders (n=60) at four scientifically-gifted education institutes in Seoul and/or Gyeonggi province and fifth graders (n=91) at three elementary schools in Seoul were selected and assigned to the scientifically-gifted group and the general group respectively. After the students of each group performed the experiment and were taught about the target concept in the first class, they administered the test on the self-generating analogies on the target concept in the second class. The results revealed that the students in the scientifically-gifted group made more analogies, especially verbal/pictorial, structural/functional, enriched, and higher systematic ones, and had deeper understanding of the analogy than those in the general group. The numbers of the shared attributes included in the student-generated analogies and the scores of the mapping understanding of the students in the scientifically-gifted group were significantly higher than those in the general group. The students in the scientifically-gifted group had fewer mapping errors than those in the general group. However, not a few students in the scientifically-gifted group had at least one mapping error. Educational implications of these findings are discussed.
This study academically examined about whether STEAM education is really needed, as part of the convergence-style gifted education for training a producer in creative knowledge, through the documentary and Delphi survey. Based on the results, it developed STEAM education materials available for being applied to the domestically gifted education field, and examined the field applicability of the developed program. As a result of surveying validity and class satisfaction, the STEAM education materials of having been developed through this study were indicated to be useful in the aspects of the appropriateness for teaching-material composition, the learning satisfaction, and the promotion in the convergence-based thinking ability. The currently domestic situation is in being short of fundamental discussion about necessity or direction of STEAM education for gifted student, compared to an effort for emphasizing and activating policy of convergence-based education focusing on STEAM. Hence, the outcome of this study, which was performed on the basis of basic research on STEAM education for the gifted student, has significance in the aspect as saying of expanding applicability of STEAM education as the gifted education program.

The purpose of this research is to suggest effective teaching and learning method suitable for IT-gifted primary school students based on their learning style. This study investigated the means of identifying IT-gifted students by comparing IT-gifted's learning style with average student's. Grasha-Reichmann Student Learning Style Inventory was used, which was proved to identify gifted IT students with 66.45% accuracy. As a result, The learning style of IT-gifted was determined as independent, competitive, participant Therefore, self-directed learning methods seem to be suitable for IT-gifted. IT-gifted also need to have more opportunities to participate in learning activities and discussion with their peers.
In this study, we presented a teaching-learning method that can apply process-focused assessment for mathematical creativity of problem solving process of the gifted student, By necessity of appropriate teaching-learning program development to the level and ability of students who belong to high school gifted classes and courses evaluation for students who participated in education programs for the gifted. In the construction implementation process of students utilizing a kind of teaching-learning software, GeoGebra. We analyzed process of a variety of creative constructing figures using interfaces of GeoGebra and algebraic calculation. Utilizing 'Construction Protocol' and 'Navigation Bar' of GeoGebra, We identified computer languages, construction order, run times used in construction process of individual student and found mathematical creativity of students in the process. Comparing this result with prerequisite learning degree of individual student, We verified that this teaching-learning method can apply at the high school gifted classes as well as institutes for the gifted education in the city office.
This study examined the friendship expectation that science-gifted and non-gifted elementary students perceived in gifted class and regular class. In 233 science-gifted elementary students and 329 non-gifted elementary students, we measured the friendship expectation that sub-domains were intimacy, ability similarity, and morality. The results of this study were as follows: First, according to the results of comparing the friendship expectations of science-gifted and non-gifted students at the regular class, there was statistically significant intergroup difference in the sub-domains of intimacy and morality, but there was no significant difference in the sub-domain of ability similarity. Second, according to the results of comparing the friendship expectations of science-gifted at the gifted class and at the regular class, there was statistically significant difference in the sub-domain of intimacy, but there was no significant difference in the sub-domains of morality and ability similarity. Based the results, the implications to understand the friendship of the science gifted elementary students were suggested in depth.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the science inquiry problem finding ability of gifted elementary students of science and general elementary students. For this purpose, this study analyzed the types of science inquiry problems in an ill-structured problem finding situation. Also, this study has compared science inquiry problem finding abilities of those two groups. From the results of this study, new ways of improving student' science inquiry problem finding ability and selection of gifted students of science were suggested. The results of this study can be summarized as follows. First, most of the inquiry problems generated by the scientifically gifted and the general students in an ill-structured problem situation could be categorized into seven types (measurement, method, cause, possibility, what, comparison, relationship) according to the inquiry objectives, and both group found more problems in scientific context than in everyday context. Regardless of the context of problem, scientifically gifted students found more problems and the type of problems generated by them were more various than those of general students. Second, there were differences in problem finding ability between scientifically gifted and general students. Scientifically gifted students found more problems and the quality of problems were higher than general students.
According to Krutetskii, the education of mathematically gifted students must be focused on the improvement of creative mathematical ability and the mathematically gifted students need to experience the research process like mathematician. Independent study is highly encouraged as the self-directed activity of highest level in the learning process which is similar to research process used by experts. We conducted independent study as a viable differentiation technique for gifted middle school students in the 3rd grade, which participated in mentorship program for 10 months. Based on the data through the research process, interview with a study participant and his parents, and his blog, we analyzed mathematical behavior characteristics of a study participant. This behavior characteristics are not found in all mathematically gifted students. But through this case study, we understand mathematically gifted students better and furthermore obtain the message for the selection and education of the mathematically gifted students and for the effective method of running mentorship program particularly.
