A Study the Development of Involute Spur Gears Profiles Strength (인벌류트 스퍼기어 치형 강도에 관한 연구)

  • Strength Design method for involute spur gears is developed. The developed gear strength design system can design the optimized gear that minimize the number of pinion teeth with face tooth. Method of optimization is matrix form which is developed from this study. Design variables are transmitted power, gear volume, gear ratio, allowable contact stress and allowable bending stress, etc. Gear design method developed this study can be apply to the gears of plants, machine tools, automobiles.

  • Recently, the need for designing multi-stage gear drive has been increased as the hear drives are used more in the applications with high-speed and small volume. The design of multi-stage gear drives includes not only dimensional design but also configuration design of various machine elements. Until now, however, the researches on the design of gear drives are mainly focused on the single-stage gear drives and the design practices for multi-stage gear drives, especially in configuration design activity, mainly depend on the experiences and 'sense' of the designer by trial and error. We propose a design algorithm to automate the dimension design and the configuration design of multi-stage gear drives. The design process consists of four steps. The number of stage should be determined in the first step. In second step, the gear ratios of each reduction stage are determined using random search, and the ratios are basic input for the dimension design of gears, which is performed by the exhaustive search in third step. The designs of gears are guaranteed by the pitting resistance and bending strength rating practices by AGMA rating formulas. In configuration design, the positions of gears are determined to minimize the volume of gearbox using simulated annealing algorithm. The effectiveness of the algorithm is assured by the design example of a 4-stage gear drive.

  • Among various gear system, planetary gear system has the best characteristics in high efficiency, excellent strength capacity, easy convertible speed control, and compact design aspect. Strength of gear is considered as the most important design factor. We have studied tooth form and the planetary gear system that have high reduction gear ratio is created by using the involute curve.

  • In this study, simulation structure analysis was performed for the differential gear system for passenger cars as a prerequisite for the design of the balancing module. The differential gear system was modeled by using CATIA and simulation structure analysis was performed using ANSYS software. The material of the modeled differential gear system uses the mechanical properties of S45C (Q&T). In the structural analysis of the differential gear, the areas where the maximum stress and the maximum strain occurred can be identified. The maximum stress and maximum strain occurred in the pitch circle of the bevel gear. In evaluating the safety factor, it was found that sufficient safety factor was secured. Based on the analysis results for the differential gear, it is expected that it will be a good reference if we design the balancing module device.

  • Planetary gear systems have several advantages over traditional gearboxes with parallel axis gear shafts. The planetary gearbox arrangement also creates greater stability due to the even distribution of mass and increased rotational stiffness. However, gears in planetary gear systems occasionally have a short-life due to wear and breakage by repetitive load during operation time. In this study, we evaluated variables of the strength design for each part and conducted structural analysis of seven cases of the planetary gear system. The result of structural analysis was applied to shape optimization method and obtaining the weight lightening designed value. Subsequently, the planetary gear system was performed to ensure the durability of gears during operation time with miner's rule.

  • This paper describes a computer aided design system for spur and helical gears. To establish the appropriate program, an integrate approach based on a rule-base system was adopted. This system is implemented on the personal computer and its environment is a commercial CAD package called AutoCAD. This system includes a main program and five sub-modules such as data input module, tooth profile drawing module, strength calculation module, and drawing edit module. In the main program, all the sub-modules are loaded and the type of gear and tooth profile are selected. In the data input module, the variables which are necessary to the design of gear are selected from the database. In the drawing module, from the calculated results, the required gear tooth is produced on the screen. The developed system that aids gear designer provides powerful capabilities for gear design.

  • Rating systems of bevel gears(straight, spiral, and zerol bevel gears) which are commonly used as power transmission devices for non-papallel axes are developed on the personal computer, which analyze and/or evaluate the gear design and the service performance at the point of view of strength and durability. The typical considerations of the ratings are the bending strength, the surface durability, and the scoring resistance. The ratings are carried out using the reliable standards of AGMA & Gleason Works. Therefore, the system is built so that the variables or factors considered differently in those standards and the strength, dura- bility, and scoring partially in Gleason are appraised seperately by each method, and a series of the estimation processes is integrated into the system so as to compare each result. The developed rating systems can be used in the initial stage of gear design process, and also a better design can be performed by the evaluation of the initial design at the view point of gear strength and durability. Additionally, it is useful for the trouble-shooting of bevel gear system and to the purpose of introducing the methods for maintaining design strength in service, with appraising the gear strength after design or with appraising the influencing factor as a whole. Therefore, this rating systems can help the aim of design automation of bevel gears.

  • Currently, plastic gear is widely used as parts of office equipment and industrial machines, because plastic substance has an advantage of light weight and possible to operate in oil-fewer conditions. However, under cyclic loadings, their occurred repetitive deformation due to weak tensile strength and bending stress rather than metal gear. Furthermore, they have a problem of attrition and breakage owing to frictional heat. For solving these problems, when plastic gear's opponents are metal gear, we should design that plastic gear's tooth be thick and metal gear's tooth be thin. In this research, we developed the program which developing tooth profile of non-standard gears automatically and calculating over-pin diameter for inspection after making gear.

Stress Analysis and Design Modification of the Planetary Gear Reducer of an In-wheel System (인휠 시스템용 유성 기어 감속기의 응력 해석 및 개선 설계)

  • The planetary gear reducer becomes more and more widely used in machine industries. The planetary gear reducer has a significant role to transmit power to wheel & tire module in the In-wheel system. Thus, the planetary gear reducer should have strong stiffness and durability. In this paper, the contact and bending stresses at the tooth of the planetary gear reducer are analyzed using MASTA, a commercial gear design and analysis software. Stress distribution at the tooth face of the sun, planetary and annulus gears are obtained using the finite element method. The design modification is performed using the response surface method. The usefulness of the design modification and optimization method presented in this paper is verified by comparing the maximum stresses of the original and optimized planetary gear tooth.

  • When designing a gear, designers determine basic dimensions of a gear with transmitted power considering strength, interference and so on. But, designers can not easily obtain the tooth profile generated by dimensions as well as the geometry of generating hob for cutting the tooth profile. In order to resolve these problems, an automatic design system creating not only the solid model of a gear but also that of the generating hob using the design parameters of dimensions is developed. Through the developed system, designers system, designers can improve the efficiency of design and satisfy the variable requirements of design as well. In this research, the three-dimensional solid models for spur and helical gears are generated considering the design parameters. Besides, those for generating hob regarding the design parameters of hob is created automatically. The system is developed by using Visual Basic and its three-dimensional geometric modeling module is constructed by using SolidWorks.
