Determination of global ice loads on the ship using the measured full-scale motion data

  • This paper describes the whole procedures to determine ice-induced global loads on the ship using measured full-scale data in accordance with the method proposed by the Canadian Hydraulics Centre of the National Research Council of Canada. Ship motions of 6 degrees of freedom (dof) are found by processing the commercial sensor signals named Motion Pak II under the assumption of rigid body motion. Linear accelerations as well as angular rates were measured by Motion Pak II data. To eliminate the noise of the measured data and the staircase signals due to the resolution of the sensor, a band pass filter that passes frequencies between 0.001 and 0.6 Hz and cubic spline interpolation resampling had been applied. 6 dof motions were computed by the integrating and/or differentiating the filtered signals. Added mass and damping force of the ship had been computed by the 3-dimensional panel method under the assumption of zero frequency. Once the coefficients of hydrodynamic and hydrostatic data as well as all the 6 dof motion data had been obtained, global ice loads can be computed by solving the fully coupled 6 dof equations of motion. Full-scale data were acquired while the ARAON rammed old ice floes in the high Arctic. Estimated ice impact forces for two representative events showed 7e15 MN when ship operated in heavy ice conditions.

  • The drastic growth of mobile communication and spreading of smart phone make the significant attention on Location Based Service. The one of most important things for vitalizations of LBS is the accurate estimating position for mobile object. Focusing on an image sensor deployed in smart phone, we develop a LED based positioning estimation framework. The developed approaches can strengthen the advantages of independent indoor applicability of LED. The estimation of LED based positioning is effectively applied to any indoor environment. We put a focus especially on the algorithmic framework. of image processing of smart phone. From LED lighting, we can obtain a typical signal image which contains the unique positioning information. Furthermore test-bed based on smart phone platform is practically developed and all data have been harvested from the actual measurement of test indoor area. This can approve the practical usefulness of proposed framework.

  • According to the economic growth, many highways are constructed for increasing need of better life style. Especially roads and roadside facilities are used for accident prevention and offering mobility for drivers. For these purpose, roads and roadside facilities should be well maintained and managed. Now, many roads and roadside facilities are constructed in many areas. Because of traditional surveying method requires much time and surveying efforts, we designed and developed mobile mapping system for highway maintenance and management purpose using multi sensors. We tested our mobile mapping system and data management process. Using developed database, road managers can easily check the information of facility conditions, positions, and attributes. We are expecting low cost and efficient road maintenance process by using our system.

  • Today, many smart sensor's measurement instruments are used to check the safety situation of various medium and large bridge structures that should be maintained in the construction facilities, but most of them use the method of measuring and confirming the displacement behavior of the bridge at regular intervals. In order to continuously check the safety situation, various measuring instruments are used, but most of them are not able to measure and measure the displacement and behavior of main construction structures at regular intervals. In this study, GNSS and environment smart sensors and drone's image data are transmitted to wireless network so that risk of many bridge's structures can be detected beforehand. As a result, by diagnosing the fine displacement of the bridge in real time and its condition, reinforcement, repair and disaster prevention measures for the structural parts of the bridges, which are expected to be dangerous, and various disasters and accidents can be prevented, and disaster can be prevented could suggest a new alternative.

  • Recently, many human activity recognition(HAR) researches using smartphone sensor data have been studied. HAR can be utilized in various fields, such as life pattern analysis, exercise measurement, and dangerous situation detection. However researches have been focused on recognition of basic human behaviors or efficient battery use. In this paper, exercising activities performed indoors and outdoors were defined and recognized. Data collection and pre-processing is performed to recognize the defined activities by SVM, random forest and gradient boosting model. In addition, the recognition result is determined based on voting class approach for accuracy and stable performance. As a result, the proposed activities were recognized with high accuracy and in particular, similar types of indoor and outdoor exercising activities were correctly classified.

  • This paper contains the results of the development and performance evaluation of the environmental data monitoring system for the fish farm. For the hardware development, the analogue sensor is used to collect dissolved oxygen, pH, salinity, and temperature of the fish farm water, and the digital sensor is used for collecting ambient temperature, humidity, and location information via a GPS module to be sent to cloud-based Firebase DB. A set of LoRa transmitters and receivers is used as a communication module to upload the collected data. The data stored in Firebase is retrieved as a graph on a web and mobile application to monitor the environmental data changes in real-time. A notification will be delivered if the collected data is outside the determined optimal value. To evaluate the performance of the developed system, a response time from hardware modules to web and mobile applications is ranging from 6.2 to 6.85 seconds, which indicates satisfactory results.

  • Accurate indoor localization of construction workers and mobile assets is essential in safety management. Existing positioning methods based on GPS, wireless, vision, or sensor based RTLS are erroneous or expensive in large-scale indoor environments. Tightly coupled sensor fusion mitigates these limitations. This research paper proposes a state-of-the-art positioning methodology, addressing the existing limitations, by integrating Stereo Visual Inertial Odometry (SVIO) with fiducial landmarks called AprilTags. SVIO determines the relative position of the moving assets or workers from the initial starting point. This relative position is transformed to an absolute position when AprilTag placed at various entry points is decoded. The proposed solution is tested on the NVIDIA ISAAC SIM virtual environment, where the trajectory of the indoor moving forklift is estimated. The results show accurate localization of the moving asset within any indoor or underground environment. The system can be utilized in various use cases to increase productivity and improve safety at construction sites, contributing towards 1) indoor monitoring of man machinery coactivity for collision avoidance and 2) precise real-time knowledge of who is doing what and where.

  • A autonomous vehicle requires improved and robust perception systems than conventional perception systems of intelligent vehicles. In particular, single sensor based perception systems have been widely studied by using cameras and laser radar sensors which are the most representative sensors for perception by providing object information such as distance information and object features. The distance information of the laser radar sensor is used for road environment perception of road structures, vehicles, and pedestrians. The image information of the camera is used for visual recognition such as lanes, crosswalks, and traffic signs. However, single sensor based perception systems suffer from false positives and true negatives which are caused by sensor limitations and road environments. Accordingly, information fusion systems are essentially required to ensure the robustness and stability of perception systems in harsh environments. This paper describes a perception system for autonomous vehicles, which performs information fusion to recognize road environments. Particularly, vision and laser radar sensors are fused together to detect lanes, crosswalks, and obstacles. The proposed perception system was validated on various roads and environmental conditions with an autonomous vehicle.

A study on the developmental plan of Alarm Monitoring Service (기계경비의 발전적 대응방안에 관한 연구)

  • Since Alarm Monitoring Service was introduced in Korea in 1981, the market has been increasing and is expected to increase continually. Some factors such as the increase of social security need and the change of safety consciousness, increase of persons who live alone could be affected positively on Alarm Monitoring Service industry. As Alarm Monitoring Service come into wide use, the understanding of electronic security service is spread and consumer's demand is difficult, so consideration about new developmental plan is need to respond to the change actively. Electronic security system is consist of various kinds of element, so every element could do their role equally. Alarm Monitoring Service should satisfy consumer's various needs because it is not necessary commodity, also electronic security device could be easily operated and it's appearance has to have a good design. To solve the false alarm problem, detection sensor's improvement should be considered preferentially and development of new type of sensor that operate dissimilarly to replace former sensor is needed. On the other hand, to settle the matter that occurred by response time, security company could explain the limit on Alarm Monitoring System to consumer honestly and ask for an understanding. If consumer could be joined into security activity by security agent's explanation, better security service would be provided with mutual confidence. To save response time the consideration on the introduction of GIS(Global Information System) is needed rather than GPS(Global Positioning System). Although training program for security agents is important, several benefits for security agents should be considered together. The development of new business model is required for preparation against market stagnation and the development of new commodity to secure consumer for housing service rather than commercial facility service. for the purpose of those, new commodity related to home-network system and video surveillance system could be considered, also new added service with network between security company and consumer for a basis is to be considered.

  • Today, ubiquitous technology (e.g. computers or networked devices pervade everywhere we are) has enlarged by great advancement of information and communication technologies. If ubiquitous technologies is applied to, innovation of spatial information technology is expected. traditional spatial information technologies such as survey, GIS, GPS, LBS, and RS and ubiquitous technology gradual1y have been converged. The aim of this study is to create shared visions in spatial information technologies by scenario based roadmapping. So, we surveyed the state of the art in main spatial information technologies, market status and patent map. Consequently, prospects of spatial information technologies is suggested. The aim of 1st and 2nd NGIS project focused on map supplier was to develop digital map(e.g. framework data, various thematic map). As a result, the best technology of digital mapping is achieved in the world. But, there is not enough to develop GIS and LBS solution. Current market in GIS S/W and Telematics is about 384billon won and 250billion won. a patent is applied in the order, like a USA(1571case, 47%), Japan(883case, 26%), EU(478case, 14%), Korea(446case, 13%). In the future, spatial information technology fused on ubiquitous technology will be focused on user's demand and developing convenience context. The developing target will be realtime monitoring of 3D spatial data based on high resolution coordinate system, sharing and supplying multi-sensor data considered users demand, location service by ubiquitous technologies.
