  • Analyzing the relationships among the parameters for quantifying the quality of research published in journals is a challenging task. In this paper, we analyze the relationships between the impact factor, h-index, and g-index of a journal. To keep our analysis simple and easy to understand, we consider a generalized version of the impact factor where there is no time window. In the absence of the time window, the impact factor converges to the number of citations received per paper. This is not only justified for the impact factor, it also simplifies the analysis of the h-index and g-index as well because addition of a time window in the form of years complicates the computation of indices too. We derive the expressions for the relationships among impact factor, h index, and g-index and validate them using a given set of publication-citation data.

  • The h-index, also called as Hirsch-index, is a new tool for measuring research outputs by citations. This h-index is not only easy to calculate, but also robust enough to handle various citation data. After its suggestion by Hirsch in 2005, many researchers applied the h-index to their own areas, and some others tried to improve the weak points of the h- index such as low discriminating power. Firstly, several of these efforts are reviewed in the present article, and then novel indexes are suggested to measure research outputs by citations more fairly and reasonably. Calculating these indexes on both artificial data and real data showed that the newly suggested indexes in this article can replace the h-index and its variants.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate citation behavior in internet news to research papers of 10 domestic economic institutes and to suggest institutes' impact quantitatively with h-index and various modified indices. Content analysis of 878 news articles that collected from NAVER news site was performed. First, as citing behavior, cited numbers of research papers, preferred news media, speed, source entry accuracy, centrality, subject section, and length by the institutes were examined. Next, impact indices for institutes were calculated by cited numbers using h-index, g-index, $h_s$-index, and $g_s$-index, and the ranking of 10 research institutes were determined by each impact indices. As a result, institutes belonged to upper ranks showed little variation among the different indices. On the other hand, institutes belonged to middle and lower ranks showed variations in impact indices and experts' survey.

  • A group G is said to satisfy the minimal condition on normal subgroups of infinite index if there does not exist an infinite properly descending chain $G_1$ > $G_2$ > ... of normal subgroups of infinite index in G. We characterize the structure of locally nilpotent groups satisfying this chain condition.

  • For a connected graph G, an r-maximum edge-coloring is an edge-coloring f defined on E(G) such that at every vertex v with $d_G(v){\geq}r$ exactly r incident edges to v receive the maximum color. The r-maximum index $x^{\prime}_r(G)$ is the least number of required colors to have an r-maximum edge coloring of G. In this paper, we show how the r-maximum index is affected by adding an edge or a vertex. As a main result, we show that for each $r{\geq}3$ the r-maximum index function over the graphs admitting an r-maximum edge-coloring is unbounded and the range is the set of natural numbers. In other words, for each $r{\geq}3$ and $k{\geq}1$ there is a family of graphs G(r, k) with $x^{\prime}_r(G(r,k))=k$. Also, we construct a family of graphs not admitting an r-maximum edge-coloring with arbitrary maximum degrees: for any fixed $r{\geq}3$, there is an infinite family of graphs ${\mathcal{F}}_r=\{G_k:k{\geq}r+1\}$, where for each $k{\geq}r+1$ there is no r-maximum edge-coloring of $G_k$ and ${\Delta}(G_k)=k$.

  • For a graph G = (V, E), a vertex coloring (or, simply, a coloring) of G is a function C : V (G) → {1, 2, …, k} (using the non-negative integers {1, 2, …, k} as colors). We say that a coloring of a graph G is injective if for every vertex v ∈ V (G), all the neighbors of v are assigned with distinct colors. The injective chromatic number χi(G) of a graph G is the least k such that there is an injective k-coloring [6]. In this paper, we study a natural variation of the injective coloring problem: coloring the edges of a graph under the same constraints (alternatively, to investigate the injective chromatic number of line graphs), we define the k- injective edge coloring of a graph G as a mapping C : E(G) → {1, 2, …, k}, such that for every edge e ∈ E(G), all the neighbors edges of e are assigned with distinct colors. The injective chromatic index χ′in(G) of G is the least positive integer k such that G has k- injective edge coloring, exact values of the injective chromatic index of different families of graphs are obtained, some related results and bounds are established. Finally, we define the injective clique number ωin and state a conjecture, that, for any graph G, ωin ≤ χ′in(G) ≤ ωin + 2.

  • Objective : The objective of this study is to investigate treatment results and reasons of difference of treatment result. Method : 22 patients with atopic dermatitis were evaluated for the symptoms and signs according to SCORAD index before and after Oriental medical treatment. And they were divided into two groups(G1: the lower group, G2: the higher group) with 30 scores in standard and analyzed for differences of treatment result. Reasult : 22 patients's Change of total SCORAD index before and after treatment were $35.79{\pm}10.86$ and period were $4.55{\pm}2.94$ months. There were no significant differences between two groups in sex, age, congenital fever, onset and hospital treatment. There were many differences between two groups in the weakness of Digestive system. There were more familial histories in G2 than G1. Past years were $3.20{\pm}3.72$ years in G1 and $1.75{\pm}1.68$ years in G2. There were more deterioration fetors in G1 than G2. Sleep conditions before treatment were worse in G2 than G1 but all children except one were good after treatment. SCORAD index before treatment were worse in G2 than G1. The used herbal medicines were Bangpungtongsungsan gagambang, Yukmijihawangtang gagambang, Saenghyeolyunbuum gagambang. The most frequently used herbal medicine was Bangpungtongsungsan gagambang in G1, Yukmijihawangtang gagambang in G2. Conclusion : On the basis of this study, we thought factors which affected treatment result were the weakness of Digestive system, past years, deterioration factors and SCORAD index before treatment. But this study's cases are small in number so more study is need.

  • The Wiener polarity index$W_p(G)$ of a graph G of order $n$ is the number of unordered pairs of vertices $u$ and $v$ of G such that the distance $d_G(u,v)$ between $u$ and $v$ is 3. In this paper the Wiener polarity index of some graph operations are computed. As an application of our results, the Wiener polarity index of a polybuckyball fullerene and $C_4$ nanotubes and nanotori are computed.

  • The zeroth-order general Randić index 0Rα(G) of the graph G is defined as ∑u∈V(G)d(u)α, where d(u) is the degree of vertex u and α is an arbitrary real number. In this paper, the maximum value of zeroth-order general Randić index on the graphs of order n with a given clique number is presented for any α ≠ 0, 1 and α ∉ (2, 2n-1], where n = |V (G)|. The minimum value of zeroth-order general Randić index on the graphs with a given clique number is also obtained for any α ≠ 0, 1. Furthermore, the corresponding extremal graphs are characterized.

  • This study was carried out to elucidate the correlation between Germination Index(G.I.) and CO2 emission for evaluation of the maturity of compost products. 13 compost samples was used for this experiment. The G.I. test was carried out on the basis of T-N 200ppm. As a result of this research, we found that CO2 emission method was good simple indicator for evaluation of maturity of compost materials, in spite of G.I. The obtain results are summarized as follows ; 1. The correlation value between the G.I. and the CO2 emission was R2 = 0.776. 2. The correlation value between EC(Electric Conductivity) and G.I. was R2 =0.7. 3. The equation calculated from G.I. and CO2 emission was G.I. = -16.7(InCO2) - 6.87. 4. From these results, we found the possibility of estimation for the value of G.I.(T-N 200ppm) from CO2 emission volume under specific condition.
