We describe a comparative analysis of different tools used to assess safety-critical software used in nuclear power plants. To enhance the credibility of safety assessments and to optimize safety justification costs, $Electricit{\acute{e}}$ de France (EDF) investigates the use of methods and tools for source code semantic analysis, to obtain indisputable evidence and help assessors focus on the most critical issues. EDF has been using the PolySpace tool for more than 10 years. Currently, new industrial tools based on the same formal approach, Abstract Interpretation, are available. Practical experimentation with these new tools shows that the precision obtained on one of our shutdown systems software packages is substantially improved. In the first part of this article, we present the analysis principles of the tools used in our experimentation. In the second part, we present the main characteristics of protection-system software, and why these characteristics are well adapted for the new analysis tools. In the last part, we present an overview of the results and the limitations of the tools.

Let R be a commutative ring with unity. If f(x) is a zero-divisor polynomial such that $f(x)=c_f f_1(x)$ with $c_f{\in}R$ and $f_1(x)$ is not zero-divisor, then $c_f$ is called an annihilating content for f(x). In this case $Ann(f)=Ann(c_f )$. We defined EM-rings to be rings with every zero-divisor polynomial having annihilating content. We showed that the class of EM-rings includes integral domains, principal ideal rings, and PP-rings, while it is included in Armendariz rings, and rings having a.c. condition. Some properties of EM-rings are studied and the zero-divisor graphs ${\Gamma}(R)$ and ${\Gamma}(R[x])$ are related if R was an EM-ring. Some properties of annihilating contents for polynomials are extended to formal power series rings.

It is proved that $k[X_1,{\ldots},X_v ]$ localized at the ideal ($X_1,{\ldots},X_v$ ), where k is a field and $X_1,{\ldots},X_v$ indeterminates, is not weakly quasi-complete for $v{\geq}2$, thus proving a conjecture of D. D. Anderson and solving a problem from "Open Problems in Commutative Ring Theory" by Cahen, Fontana, Frisch, and Glaz.

Though the concept of unique factorization was formulated in tile 19th century, Euclid already had considered the prime factorization of natural numbers, so called tile fundamental theorem of arithmetic. The unique factorization of algebraic integers was a crucial problem in solving elliptic equations and the Fermat Last Problem in tile 19th century On the other hand the unique factorization of the formal power series ring were a critical problem in the past century. Unique factorization is one of the idealistic condition in computation and prime elements and prime ideals are vital ingredients in thinking and solving problems.

The influence diagram is a new conceptual tool that can be used for structuring a strategic decision problem in decision analysis. It has a graphical representation of probabilistic dependence among variables in the decision problem. In this formal procedures for constructuring the influence diagram and for translating it into the corresponding decision tree are studied. An example that shows the power of the infuence diagram is shown.

Most existing DRM systems give too much power to rights holders and have not concerned the requirements of the consumers. In this paper, we propose a mechanism for license distribution that considers the distribution of rights between consumers. we describe the protection of digital content in two digital licenses, formal license and peer license. Also we propose an extending mechanism to control the distribution of rights between consumers. For this mechanism, we define it by extending the ODRL model in the end.

This paper deals with the unit groups of the endomorphism rings of projective modules over polynomial rings and further over formal power series rings. A normal subgroup of the unit group is defined and discussed. The local splitting properties of element of endomorphism rings of projective modules over polynomial rings are given.

A ring R is called an $I_0$-ring if each left ideal not contained in the Jacobson radical J(R) contains a non-zero idempotent. If, in addition, idempotents can be lifted modulo J(R), R is called an I-ring or a potent ring. We study whether these properties are inherited by some related rings. Also, we investigate the structure of potent rings.

We provide the exact form of a Rao-Robson version of the chi-squared test of multivariate normality suggested by Park(2001). This test is easy to apply in practice since it is easily computed and has a limiting chi-squared distribution under multivariate normality. A self-contained formal argument is provided that it has the limiting chi-squared distribution. A simulation study is provided to study the accuracy, in finite samples, of the limiting distribution. Finally, a simulation study in a nonnormal distribution is conducted in order to compare the power of our test with those of other popular normality tests.

In this paper, we define a new kind of formal power series rings by using Gaussian binomial coefficients and investigate some properties. More precisely, we call such a ring a Gaussian series ring and study McCoy's theorem, Hermite properties and Noetherian properties.
