Oxytetracycline has been widely used in the cattle industry to control pneumonia, shipping fever, foot rot, bacterial enteritis, and uterine infections. Extensive use of antibiotics in veterinary clinics has resulted in residues in tissue and bacterial resistance to antibiotics. To prevent unwanted drug residues from entering the human food chain, extensive control measures have been established by both government authorities and industries. The demands for reliable, simple, sensitive, rapid and low-cost methods for residue analysis of foods are increasing. In this study, we established a rapid test for tissue residues of oxytetracycline in cattle. The recommended therapeutic dose of oxytetracycline (withdrawal time, 14 days) was administered to 10 cattle. Blood samples were collected from each cow before drug administration and during the withdrawal period. The concentration of oxytetracycline in plasma, determined by a semi-quantitative ELISA, was compared to that of the internal standard, 10 ppb. The absorbance ratio of internal standard to sample (B/Bs) was employed as an index to determine whether the residues in cattle tissues were negative or positive. That is, a B/Bs ratio less than 1 was considered as residue positive and that greater than 1 as negative. Based on this criterion, all plasma samples from cattle were negative to oxytetracycline at pre-treatment. Oxytetracycline could be detected in the plasma treated cattle until day 14 post-treatment. The present study showed that the semi-quantitative ELISA could be easily adapted in predicting tissue residues for oxytetracycline in live cattle.
With the increase of milk consumption upto 54.5kgjperson as af the year 1994, dairy market has been mainly shared by a few specialized companies. Different from these, there are also remarkable companies like YeonSe Dairy, Konkook Dairy and SamYook University Food which are associated with Universities. These university-originated brands differentiate from others in the market with the advantage of positive university image and result in synergy effect between product image and univiersity PRo Located in Ansung, one of the most famous dairy areas, HanKyong National University designated as characterized university for Dairy by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry in 1996 has a big. advantage to build new dairy brand with attractive merits as like high education institute with R'll'&'ll'D, good logistics from market area, environmental condition for dairy industry and historical background as Agricultural university. Our New dairy brand has been created under the following concepts to have concrete brand image ; 1. Confidence - university logo 'll'&'ll' symbol designed together with "Characterized university for Dairy by government" 2. Fresh - Image differentiation through creative brand symbol 3. This study aims to effective survey on actual condition for impact and vulnerability assessment on climate change in agriculture and rural community (limited to rural water and agricultural infrastructure, Paragraph 3, Article 2 of the Rearrangement of Agricultural and Fishing Villages Act) entrusted to Korea Rural Community Corporation based on the Law (Paragraph 2, Article 47 of the Framework Act on Agriculture, Rural community and Food industry). The results are summarized as follows. The rural water was divided into three categories (abnormal climate, water use, and flood control), and 31 indicators were selected. The reservoirs were divided into four categories, and 20 indicators were selected. The pumping stations were divided into two categories, 7 indicators, and the drainage pump stations were divided into two categories, 5 indicators were chosen. A survey on actual condition of each indicator was conducted and the result of the impact assessment was calculated. The 65 rural water showed values ranged from 0.855 to 1.308. The reservoir ranged from 0.966 to 23.338 as a result of the impact assessment on the 16 indicators. The pumping station was able to calculate the results of the safety inspection and the thorough safety inspection, and the drainage pump station was able to calculate only the result of the safety inspection. It is judged that it will be necessary to secure and analyze data on indicators with no data in the future. The results of this research can be utilized as baseline data that can deal with climate change preemptively.

Gabensis village is one of the biggest village In the Wampar Local Level Government area within the Huon Gulf District of Morobe Province with a population of around 3,000. The major staple food is banana which is well complemented by minor staples yam, cassava, Singapore/Chinese taro and sweet potato. Apart from gardening for own consumption, the villagers engage in selling of vegetables, garden staples, cocoa beans, coconuts, timber, chicken, fish and pig meat to supplement their livelihood. Livestock like pigs and chickens are also kept for meat and for commercial purpose. Bettlenut which was once one of the main cash crops has now been overtaken by cocoa due to a disease that had attacked almost the entire bettlenut tree population in the area. Even though the Wau-Bulolo highway cuts through the village and all have access to transport infrastructure, the majority of the population still encounter problems in communication due to poor telecommunication coverage. On average most people earn not more than K50 per week due to constrains in production and marketing among others. Gabensis village has the potential to develop a tourism industry given its natural attraction of Lake Wanam. Beside there is also the natural eel farming and the fish pond at the nearby Potsie village. These natural attractions pose huge tourism potential for the community. As part of government services delivery and development, education and health issues is very much important in the community however there is lack of infrastructural development and poor service delivery especially in the area of health. However, the responsibility is on the community to organize themselves to realize that potential. A well developed agro-ecotourism investments would have positive spillover effects to the community thus contributing towards improving the livelihoods of the many farming families.
This paper studies the impact of Korean introduction of the Generalized System of Preferences(GSP) to developing countries, which are continuously arguing to support research and development for reducing greenhouse gas(GHG) emission with developed countries in the Conference of the Parties(COP) of UNFCCC. This paper is focusing on the expecting effects of trade and GHG emission reduction when Korea provides GSP to Indonesia, Brazil, and Ethiopia, which are selected in the first session of Global Green Growth Institute(GGGI). This paper uses the methodology of the intra-industry trade index multiplied by Korean import-induced coefficients. To Indonesia, Korean probable GSP would benefit exports of Indonesian agriculture, forestry, fishery, and livestock farming industries, which would contribute to Indonesian reduction of GHG emission. To Brazil, the exports to Korea would increase in the GHG sensitive industries such as metal, fat, oils, food, and beverage industries. Ethiopia belongs to the least developed countries. So Korean GSP would support the exports and GHG reduction in Ethiopian agriculture, forestry, fisheries, textiles, and leather industries. Without conflicting most favored nation treatment(MFN) principle in WTO, the introduction of GSP would be a good compensation for GHG reduction to developing countries.
Soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merr.) seed is the main source of protein and oil for human and animal. The use of soybean protein has been expanded in the food industry due to their excellent nutritional benefits. But, antinutritional and allergenic factors are exist in the raw mature soybean. Lipoxygenase, Kunitz trypsin inhibitor (KTI) protein, and ${\alpha}^{\prime}-subunit$ of 7S globulin are main antinutritional factors in soybean seed. Breeding of a new soybean strain with lacking these components is needed. The objective of this research was to select new soybean line with lipoxygenase-free, KTI-free, and ${\alpha}^{\prime}-subunit$ free (lx1lx1lx2lx2lx3lx3titicgy1cgy1 genotype). Total 434 $F_2$seeds were obtained from the cross of cultivar, "Gaechuck#2" and PI506876. Presence and absence of lipoxygenase, KTI protein, and ${\alpha}^{\prime}-subunit$ of 7S globulin was tested by SDS electrophoresis using a partial seed of each $F_2$seed. Only one $F_2$seed with lacking these three components was selected and was planted to $F_2$plant. Absence of lipoxygenase, KTI, and ${\alpha}^{\prime}-subunit$ protein was confirmed on the $F_3$seeds harvested. Selected line with lx1lx1lx2lx2lx3lx3titicgy1cgy1 genotype might be useful for soybean breeding.
Chicken thigh from a retail market were used as experimental samples. Some chicken samples of raw state were packaged with PVDC at an aerobic and vacuum condition. The other samples were cooked until core temperature arrived at 70$^{\circ}C$ and then packaged immediately in the same way of raw samples. After samples were irradiated by electron beam at 6 kGy, they were stored in a refrigerator. Identification and quantity of cholesterol oxides were made at 0 and 7 days of storage, respectively. During the early stage of storage, 7$\beta$-hydroxycholesterol, $\alpha$,$\beta$-epoxide, cholestanetriol and 7-ketocholesterol were produced from the raw meat samples, and the production of these chemicals were significantly higher(P〈0.05) from the samples with aerobic packaging than those with vacuum packaging. With storage time, 7$\alpha$-hydroxycholesterol, 6-ketocholesterol and some other chemicals, which were not found during the early stage of storage, were found. Also, the formation of these chemicals were significantly increased(P〈0.05) with storage time. Cholesterol and lipid oxidation products of cooked meat after irradiation and irradiated meat after cooking were significantly increased(P〈0.05) with storage time for all treatments, and vacuum packaging results in showed significantly lower value(P〈0.05) than aerobic packaging. Summarizing the aforementioned results, it was found that the formation of cholesterol and lipid oxides and lipid oxidation was more easily affected by packaging condition than irradiation.
TTo increase productivity of a strong extracellular alkaline protease (BCAP), stable strains of Bacillus clausii I-52 carrying another copy of BCAP gene in the chromosome were developed. Integrative vector, pHPS9-fuBCAP carrying BCAP promoter, ribosome binding site, signal sequence and active protease gene was constructed and transferred into B. clausii I-52, and integration of the constructed plasmid into chromosome was identified by PCR. An investigation was carried out on BCAP production by B. clausii I-52 and transformant C5 showing the highest relative activity of alkaline protease using submerged fermentation. Maximum enzyme activity was produced when cells were grown under the submerged fermentation conditions at $37^{\circ}C$ for 48 h with an aeration rate of 1 vvm and agitation rate of 650 rpm in a optimized medium (soybean meal 2%, wheat flour 1%, sodium citrate 0.5%, $K_2HPO_4$ 0.4%, $Na_2HPO_4$ 0.1%, NaCl 0.4%, $MgSO_47H_2O$ 0.01%, $FeSO_47H_2O$ 0.05%, liquid maltose 2.5%, $Na_2CO_3$ 0.6%). A protease yield of approximately 134,670U/ml was achieved using an optimized media, which show an increase of approximately 1.6-fold compared to that of non-transformant (83,960 U/ml). When the stability of transformant C5 was examined, the integrated plasmid pHPS9-fuBCAP was detected in the transformant after cultivation for 8 days, suggesting that it maintained stably in the chromosomal DNA of transformant C5.

The oxidative stability of lipids from eel (Anguilla japonica) fed diets containing different concentrations of conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) was studied. Eels, 3 weeks of age, with an average weight of 160 g, were randomly divided into 5 groups (5 fishes/group) by body weight, and assigned to one of the five CLA-supplemented diets at the following concentrations: 0, 0.5, 1.0, 2.5, and $5.0\%$ CLA. After 8 weeks of feeding, eels were sacrificed and the total lipid contents were extracted. The lipids from each treatment groups were stored at $37^{\circ}C$ for 5 weeks. Changes in the fatty acid profile, lipid class, weight gained, peroxide value (POV) and carbonyl value (COV) of the lipid from each treatment groups were analyzed weekly. The composition of CLA in the lipids of eels fed with 0.5, 1.0, 2.5, and $5.0\%$ CLA-supplemented diets were 0.5, 1.7, 3.3, and $6.2\%$, respectively After 4 weeks of storage, the proportion of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) in the lipid of eels fed diets containing 1.0 and $2.5\%$ CLA were 15.3 and $14.8\%$, respectively. Whereas, lipid extracted from eels fed with 0.5 and $5.0\%$ CLA-supplemented diets contain 11.8 and $7.4\%$ PUFAs, respectively. Lipid from the control sample contained $9.0\%$ PUFAs. POV and COV were found to be the lowest in the lipids samples from 1.0 and $2.5\%$ CLA diets. These results indicate that lipids from diets containing 1.0 or $2.5\%$ CLA were more stable against oxidative rancidity relative to other concentrations, suggesting that these are the appropriate CLA concentrations for the production of stable eel lipids.
According to ISAAA report, the global area of genetically modified (GM) crops increased more than 50 fold during the ten-year period from 1996 to 2005 with a sustained double-digit growth rate of 10%. This biotechnology adoption is one of the highest rates of technology adoption in agriculture history and this phenomenon indicates that the industrial value of the GM crops is highly perspective. In addition, the year 2010, 60% of cereal seeds in the global market would be GM or biotechnology related seeds so that the GM crop regards as the second green revolution that could provide a huge impact to food and agriculture. Nevertheless, there has not been any GM variety ever successfully commercialized in Korea and even none of the GM crops has ever been approved for safety testing by risk assessment. This seems that Korean agriculture industry might be indeed lost in the war of future seed market. However, lots of evidence show that Korean scientists have established advanced technologies and protocols to develop GM crops for last 20 years. Actually there have been many cases of successful transformation of crops that were previously known very difficult in transforming. Therefore, Korean agbiotechnology arena firmly holds an infrastructure for developing GM crops with a superior technology. Then what were the problems? Why has even a single GM crop not been commercialized in Korea? The tardiness shown by business in adopting the GM crop is caused by many factors: academical weakness, poor research funding, short knowledge of risk assessment, public concern, no successful experience, lack of professional leaders on GM variety development, lack of systems toward industrialization and inappropriate target transgenes from the beginning. In order to catch up in the race for the new green industry, each one of us in private sectors alongside academia and national research institutes needs to focus altogether on what can be done best in terms of choosing crops, investing fund and establishing a road map for commercialization of GM crops.
