Pipe network of hot water heat supply system in an apartment house was analyzed. Flowrate and supply heat capacity of each household in which constant flowrate balancing valve is installed in a single zone system were calculated and the results were investigated. In the existing piping system, the non-uniformity of heat supply with floors due to the static pressure and temperature difference between supply main and return main can not be avoided and this tendency get intense with the increase of the height of building. The non-uniformity of heat supply can be prevented by the installation of balancing valve at each household, however if the performance of supply pump is not sufficient to overcome the energy loss due to the installation of balancing valve for constant flow rate or if the selection of the valve capacity is not adequate, the valves will may lose their controllability.
An analysis of a pyroprocessing safeguards methodology employing the Pu-to-$^{244}Cm$ ratio is presented. The analysis includes characterization of representative used nuclear fuel assemblies with respect to computed nuclide composition. The nuclide composition data computationally generated is appropriately reformatted to correspond with the material conditions after each step in the head-end stage of pyroprocessing. Uncertainty in the Pu-to-$^{244}Cm$ ratio is evaluated using the Geary-Hinkley transformation method. This is because the Pu-to-$^{244}Cm$ ratio is a Cauchy distribution since it is the ratio of two normally distributed random variables. The calculated uncertainty of the Pu-to-$^{244}Cm$ ratio is propagated through the mass flow stream in the pyroprocessing steps. Finally, the probability of Type-I error for the plutonium Material Unaccounted For (MUF) is evaluated by the hypothesis testing method as a function of the sizes of powder particles and granules, which are dominant parameters to determine the sample size. The results show the probability of Type-I error is occasionally greater than 5%. However, increasing granule sample sizes could surmount the weakness of material accounting because of the non-uniformity of nuclide composition.

The interaction of the flows induced by stator blades with a ship-like wake is discussed to obtain the flow components of each with and without radial shear. The flow induced by stator blades is modeled by lifting line theory and the shear is taken to be provided by the radial gradient of the peripheral mean axial flow approximated by a logarithmic function of radius for a class of vessels. And the theory is based on the linearized Euler equations in the absence of viscosity. The results show that shear effects are relatively large at inner radii and the distribution of blade pitch angles is most effective in reducing non-uniformity.
The purpose of this research is to analyze the characteristics of flow rate distribution in hot-water piping networks in the apartment building. A 14-story apartment house was selected as a sample building and analyzed numerically by Hardy-Cross method. Two different piping networks, one has three vertical zones and the other of a single zone with automatic balancing valves, were compared. Some of research results are as follows; As the temperature of supply hot-water increases, the flow rate of it does by buoyancy effect, but this effect is not found in the piping network with automatic balancing valves. Non-uniformity in hot-water flow distributions to all stories in the piping system of single vertical zone can be completely reformed by the installation of either manually operated or automatic balancing valves in every story.

In this study, hydraulic and numerical model experiments were performed to analyze and improve the effects of flow-rate increase in the intake canal of Boryeong Thermal Power Plants on the flow condition in the circulation water pump (CWP) chambers. Based on the numerical simulation results, when the flow-rate increased in the circulation water intake canal, the velocity in the canal and vertical vorticities in the circulation water pump chambers increased and hence the vortex occurrence potential would be greatly increased. It was found by performing hydraulic model experiments that the velocity distribution near the bottom in the inlet of the circulation water pump chambers was highly non-uniform while the velocity distribution near the water surface was nearly uniform. To reduce the non-uniformity in the velocity distribution, triangular flow deflectors were devised. The installation of the flow deflectors in the inlet of circulation water pump chambers was successfully to reduce velocity non-uniformities and to remove flow reversal problems.

In recent years, various researches have been conducted to improve process yields in accordance with miniaturization of semiconductor. APC(Advanced Process Control) is considered one of the methods to increase in process yields. APC is a process control technology that maintains optimal process conditions and improves the reliability of results by controlling and formulating the relationship among the various process parameters and results. We built up an optical diagnostic system with a three-channel spectrometer. The system detects signals those represent the changes of specific emission peaks intensity versus each reference and converts it into MFC control signals to get back the changes to the reference state. Controlling the MFC continues until the specific peak intensity changes into the normal state. Through this device, we tested a APC automatically responding to process changes during the plasma process. We could control gas flow while sputtering process on going and improve uniformity of plasma intensity with this system. Finally, we have got results those enhance the plasma intensity non-uniformity to 7.7% from 15.5%. Also, found unexpected oxygen flow what is estimated to be come out from IGZO target.
LPG explosion characteristics in non-uniform concentration was investigated with a 270 liter explosion vessel of which the scale is 100 cm${\times}$60 cm${\times}$45 cm. Vented explosion and closed explosion system were used. Experimental parameter were position of ignition source, nozzle diameter and flow rate of gas. Non uniform concentration was controlled by the nozzle diameter and flow rate. Explosion pressure were measured with strain type pressure sensor and the flame behavior was pictured with the video camera. Based on this experimental result, it was found that the flow rate of gas and the duration of gas injection are important factor for mixing the gas in the vessel. And as the increase the non-uniformity of gas concentration, explosion pressure and pressure rise rate Is decrease but the flame resident time in the vessel is increase. Therefore gas explosion to fire transition possibility will increase in non-uniform concentration gas explosion.

In order to provide a complementary perspective to the effects of the maneuvering motions on the unsteady propeller performance, the numerical simulation of the flow field of the hull-rudder- propeller system is performed by Unsteady Reynolds-averaged Naiver-Stokes (URANS) method. Firstly, the flow fields around the submarine model without the presence of propeller in straight ahead motion and the steady diving maneuvers with submergence rudder deflections of 4°, 8° and 12° are predicted numerically. The non-uniformity characteristic of the nominal wake field is exacerbated with the increase submergence rudder angle. Then the flow field around the SUBOFF-G submarine fitted with the 4381 propeller is simulated. The axial, transverse and vertical unsteady propeller forces in different maneuvering conditions are compared. In general, as the submarine maneuvers more violently, the harmonic amplitudes of the unsteady force at the 2BPF and 3BPF increased more significantly than that at BPF.
The nuclear reactor coolant pump transferring heat energy inherently brings with it the unsteady flow and inevitably threatens to the safe operation of the pump unit, especially with the pressure pulsation induced by the rotor-stator interaction. In this paper, the characteristics of pressure pulsation of the diffuser in a nuclear reactor coolant pump were investigated by the numerical simulation with experimental validation. Pressure pulsation signals measured synchronously from sensors mounted on the radial diffuser of a model pump were analyzed via Welch's method. Frequency components induced by the rotor-stator interaction can be revealed by the diameter mode analysis method. The pressure pulsation of the diffuser is dominated by the blade passing frequency and its harmonics, which are free from the effect of flow rate and rotational speed while the corresponding amplitudes are easily affected by different operational conditions and measuring positions. The non-uniformity is much more affected by the rotational speed than the flow rate. This research is helpful for further work to reduce the pressure pulsation for the reactor coolant pump.
Nowadays, most micro-patterns are manufactured during flow line production. However, a conventional rotary chemical mechanical polishing (CMP) system has a limited throughput for the fabrication of large and flexible electronics. To overcome this problem, we propose a novel linear roll-CMP system for the planarization of large-area electronics. In this paper, we present a statistical analysis on the linear roll-CMP process of copper-clad laminate (CCL) to determine the impacts of process parameters on the material removal rate (MRR) and its non-uniformity (NU). In the linear roll-CMP process, process parameters such as the slurry flow rate, roll speed, table feed rate, and down force affect the MRR and NU. To determine the polishing characteristics of roll-CMP, we use Taguchi's orthogonal array L16 (44) for the experimental design and F-values obtained by the analysis of variance (ANOVA). We investigate the signal-to-noise (S/N) ratio to identify the prominent control parameters. The "higher is better" for the MRR and "lower is better" for the NU were selected for obtaining optimum CMP performance characteristics. The experimental and statistical results indicate that the down force and roll speed mainly affect the MRR and the down force and table feed rate determine the NU in the linear roll-CMP process. However, over 186.3 N of down force deteriorates the NU because of the bending of substrate. Roll speed has little relationship to the NU and the table feed rate does not impact on the MRR. This study provides information on the design parameter of roll-CMP machine and process optimization.
